Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs

My completely uneducated guess is that since developers can "opt out" they don't have to specifically "opt in". I would think the OS would handle this automagically, even for existing titles which cannot explicitly opt out.

Cloud saving should be made available to all users. That's complete bullshit. So what happens if you ever decide to cancel plus? I'm assuming you lose all your saves?!

All your remote saves. They're a backup, not the sole versions.

But, yes, I can't imagine they'd give a fuck without your money.

That makes more sense, but how would that save space on your hard drive, as the article states?

I think they're misspeaking. That would mean that if you didn't have an Internet connection, you couldn't load your saves. It's going to be more like Dropbox than a network drive.

I thought this was going to be a feature of the next generation consoles.

It shouldn't be too hard to implement/handle. If you can play FPS games online, keepin a save (sync'ed) in the cloud is pretty trivial. I think some games in Steam already have this feature.

Does PSN ever put anything on sale and how do you find out? I want to get the Burnout stuff and Warhawk in some sale/cheap package deal but I cant check PSN all the time with hopes of a sale.

PSN only updates on Tuesday afternoons. I check Joystiq at around 3 pm on Tuesday and the info is usually there. There has been Burnout on sale before. I got the complete game with all the DLC for $29.99. Maybe my best download purchase ever.

Considering Persona 3 Portable is out of print and selling over MSRP, getting it for $19.99 is a great deal.

Alright, another question. Is there a way to see whats taking up so much room? I just dled the Dead Space 2 demo and than when I tried to install it I got a message that the game couldnt be installed because there wasnt enough room on the hard drive. I have an 80GB an only have battlefield 1943 on there and the only dlc Ive ever bought was the two memories for Assassins Creed II. Do saves take up THAT much space?

If you go to Game Data Utility, you can see what each game has used on the hard drive. Some games will install 3-5 GBs each. The Save Data Utility shows your saves, which shouldn't be taking up that much space.

Also note that with an 80GB drive, you probably only have around 65 or so that can actually be used, after accounting for overhead. That demo probably needs a few GB on top of the size of the download, since it has to be installed (which is to say, extracted somewhere else).

This is the answer. It's not uncommon for games that partially install from the disk to use 5 GB. Just delete the ones that you don't plan to play in the near future, and they will reinstall when you do play them.

did the netflix app change recently? now when i log in, i get to a main screen that shows me my online queue, and things i would like in rows i have to scroll down. i have to click triangle button to search. i don't get the default thing on the left side of the screen that gives me options like (search, suggestions, new arrivals, etc.). did i possibly change a setting on accident?

ridiculous. it was so functional and now it's a joke. not sure who the culprit is behind the change, but it is atrocious.

Weird. It must have just changed today. I used it last night and it looked like it has for quite awhile.

I had the nice version you're referring to for roughly 24 hours (right at the launch of the app). Then, I signed in the next day, and it was the new layout you're describing. And I was all geared up to do a bit of writing on the fluidity of that interface, which then changed to the basic, cumbersome model. It's still functional and a workable offering for $0, but I can't imagine why they'd opt for the one implemented now over the initial design. It didn't seem that complex.

Yeah, I just saw that. That is amazing since I was going to buy it at launch at full price. PS+, you just ended any discussions about whether you were worth $50/year and I'm totally on board for another year once mine is up in Sept or October.
