Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Also be aware that some game saves are "locked" to your console and can't be transfered to a new system (unless you can get your old system up and running long enough to network them together and do a Data Transfer from the XMB).

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
How do you transfer over a PSN ID? Just log into the new system when I get it, sign up, and click use existing account? I don't have to physically copy anything over to a USB drive like I did the saves, right?
I'm pretty ticked that I can't transfer my Heavy Rain save file, ugh. That's the only one that I'll be upset over, but I'll live. Thanks for reminding me to remove the old accounts from this old PS3. I'll be selling it on eBay for parts or something to help make up for the cost of the new one. I figure if I can get $50-$100 for it I'll be happy. I'll just include the system with the HD and the power cable and keep the controller and remote. Those should both work on the new system. What is the difference between this controller I have that came with it and the one that comes with the slim? |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Well, I just tried to turn it back on to take care of those last few things. It is totally dead now. It turns off instantly now - yellow light, 3 beeps, and 3 blinking red lights. Now I don't know if I should include the HD when I sell this bad one.

Can't at all understand why the game saves are locked to one console. That makes zero sense to me. Also, I need to back up my PSN IDs, my few shared games and my big game saves onto a USB stick. I feel more and more nervous about my old 60 GB unit surviving, but so far it's still okay. :fc: |

Yours came with a sixaxis. Now they come with a Dual Shock 3. Only differences is the old one was incredibly light and the new ones have rumble feedback.

remember deleting your account is different then de-authorizing. You need to do both - deauthorize for PSN and Video store, and then delete account, if you can get it started.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Yep, it came with a DS so they are the same, thanks!
I'll keep trying to get this system to turn back on, but I don't think I'm going to have that happen again. It seems to be toast. :( Of course, this would happen when I'm stranded at home in snow. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Ugh! I just realized that I still have my 2011 SD game in the system and now I can't get it out. I have tried holding eject and turning it off and back on, and that isn't working. What can I do now?

1> Turn off the system from the back at the PSU 2> Put your finger on the eject button 3> Turn on the system from the back 4> Press power button 5> Once fan starts going tap the eject button continuously This worked for me on my 40GB fatty...dont know if it is somehow different for other systems. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Yeah, I tried that but it didn't work for me. It would instantly give me the YLOD.
I didn't want to, but after I realized a game was stuck I tried the stupid hair dryer trick, and sure enough it worked well enough for me to do the above trick you described ween. I let it sit for a while to cool down even more, and now I can turn the system on and it will totally load like normal. I know this is just a temporary fix and it will eventually give me the YLOD again, either in a few minutes or a few hours or maybe even days, but that isn't good enough. I'm still going to sell it for parts to someone and enjoy the slim that is on the way to me. I'm just glad I was able to get it working long enough to get the game out and do the other steps you guys told me to go through to get it ready to sell. Thanks! |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
If it'll stay on for a couple hours you may be able to transfer those locked saves to your new slim.
|
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
I may give that a shot once I get my slim. It has been on and working fine for the past hour, so I may have a shot here. Heck, I may be able to get a tiny bit more for it when I sell it now, although I'll make sure that I describe the YLOD issue and the fix I performed so they know exactly what they are getting.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
Did you have it in a towel or box or shirt or something and go for like 15-20 minutes straight?
Well, to update on my tale of woe if anyone cares, my PS3 is still working as of this morning. I remembered I had an 8gb usb drive I bought at Walmart on Black Friday and decided to try and make use of it. I deleted all of the game installs and demos and games I downloaded that I can redownload to free up as much space as possible on the PS3. Then I tried the backup utility to see if it would be enough of space on the usb drive to save what was left on the PS3, and sure enough it was! It is just the essential stuff like locked saves and everything, but I was able to save it all on the drive with room to spare. Thank God I got that taken care of. Now the transfer to the new PS3 slim should be nice and smooth, and all I have to do is redownload some games after signing into my PSN account. EDIT: Well I just read that was a waste of time and the absolute only way to transfer the locked saves is by the network data transfer. That is a huge load. |
Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
You really are better off just doing the network transfer. It moves "everything" off of your old system and puts it on the new one. If I remeber right, it even wipes the old system so you don't have to. All your locked saves will work, and also any videos you have purchased I believe.

I was hoping to see some old school TR remastered and brought to life. However, those graphics are probably to crusty to even attempt to bring even close to HD quality.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Software bugs? We don't need no software bugs
The locked game saves continues to be a sore spot for me with the PS3. I have had 2 YLODs on two separate 60s and lost a ton of invested time with some game saves. We lost our Rock Band group save as well as my Rainbow Six Vegas 2 Elite level around 15.

Are the locked saves on two seperate units? When you do the transfer does it get rid of everything on the unit it is being transfered to or does it combine data it finds?
