Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Does anyone know if there's a certain time that new releases are made available at the PSN Store? I'm very eager to play Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath and it doesn't seem to be up yet.

They usually update it in the evening. Check for it again after 7pm.

I just happened to check around noon and it's available. Unfortunately, I seem to be looking at around a 2-hour download before I can play it. Still - I'm excited to check this one out. I loved Munch's Odyssey on the first Xbox but never really got to play this sequel.

That turned out to be insanely optimistic on my part. After 3 1/2 hours, it has downloaded around 70 %. I have no idea why it's so slow. I never really download anything from PSN, so I have no idea if that's normal or not.

Everyone's gripe with PSN is the download speed.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

It's been awhile since I have looked for one but was curious if there have been any recent controller releases for the PS3 that are similar to the Xbox controller in size and format? I know there were some released a few years ago but most reviews were poor due to control issues.

Anybody here have one that they use and enjoy?

I went on some work trips and forgot about them and recently noticed / remembered them when perusing my downloads list. I have two separate problems and I wonder who can help me out:

Burnout: Paradise shows up in the download list but it won't download. It tries and after a while it says error 8002AD23 or sometimes 80029516. Either way, I can't get it to download. What am I missing?

BTTF #5 doesn't even show up in my download list. It's BTTF #1-4 and that's it. How do I get that?

Thanks for your help.
Update: I called Sony and we walked through several troubleshooting steps and at the end of it all they issued me a refund. They would only refund me the purchase price ($7.99 as it was on sale while I was a Plus member this summer during the "Welcome Back" promo period) and not the current purchase price of $19.99 so I could get it. This was frustrating because I had also downloaded and paid for a bunch of the DLC which sat worthless without the actual game. On one hand, it's my fault for not remedying this when I was still a Plus member and could have gotten the game at the same price as the refund and on the other hand I'm a new Playstation owner who would like to get a game and isn't out to scam anyone. Just felt kind of disappointed by the whole situation.

Anyway, I bought Burnout Paradise used off Craigslist for $10 and ten of us rotated to play it last week (thread). Fun game, love that I can use my own MP3s.

Any suggestions on what to buy with my $7.99 credit? Any content to wait for with BF3 coming soon or any cheap MW2 content that's "necessary" now that I've picked it up (also used off Craigslist for $10)?

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

My launch model 60gb PS3 finally bit the dust with a YLOD. I was watching a movie, looked away for a couple of seconds and when I looked back the red power light was blinking and the system was off. It had been getting louder over the past couple of weeks so I knew it wasn't going to last long. I've got a decision now - Sony says they can repair my unit for $130 or I can trade for a 160gb slim for $99. Truth be told, I never really use the card slots, I've never had more than 2 things connected in the front usb ports, and I don't play PS2 games on it...but it's nice to have those features in case I need them. I'm still leaning toward getting the slim, though.

I ordered the slim. I've read that they're much quieter than the old systems, which will be nice.

Enjoy the slim. I converted to it and have not looked back. My twice repaired phatty is now a netflix streamer for the bedroom. (The phattys are still waaaaaaay sexier looking IMHO)

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

I'm amazed at how great of a deal PlayStation Plus ended up being for me. I admit that 90% or more of my gaming is done on my 360 but the games that have offered for free as past of the membership have pretty much ALL been games I would of bought. I just beat Costume Quest and the first part of the BTTF series. I honestly wonder if they can keep this content coming further down the line or if this is a way to lure in customers and have them renew with content in future years being sub par. Maybe next I'll tackle Hydrophobia....even if I hear it isn't so great.

It's horrible. The physics suck, the graphics suck, the gameplay sucks, the story sucks.... I uninstalled it the day after I got it.

I'm sure this has been asked before, but will a PS3 Slim play a Region-Free Blu-Ray? I'd like to order a Blu-Ray from the UK next week, but if it won't play, I'll skip it.

No, consoles have always enforced region coding for video discs, even though the PS3 doesn't have region lockouts for PS3 games.

However, just because you get a BD from the UK, that doesn't necessarily mean it's region coded. Check to be sure.

Yes, it will play a region free blu-ray, but not a region locked one. What movie in particular are you talking about?

He specifically asked about region free discs which are the non region encoded ones. So you go that partially wrong.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Oh crap, I misread the post as if he was asking about a region coded disc. Maybe I did that because, why would he ask if it's region free?

Well, there's the NTSC vs. PAL thing, but that doesn't apply to anything on the disc that's in HD. Just some special features might not play.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Has anyone else with a Slim ever had the problem with the system freezing up when you turn it on? I got a second console during the Black Friday sales to replace my fatty. Since we bought it we have had it freeze up at least 3 different times where you have to unplug it to turn it off and then go through the scanning process to make sure that the hdd isn't corrupted. However, the only times that it has frozen is when there is a dvd inside the console when it is turned on. When the problem has arisen when the unit was being turned on you could hear that dvd spinning like it is about to take off. I even have the unit set to not auto-start the disc when one is inserted.

Ahh, was wondering if it was something I knew about. I have a few uk blu's and I can confirm that the aliens quad, Lethal Weapon collection, Harry Potter 8 movie set, and Nightmare on Elm street collection all work and are region free.

However as stated by decker if it's a dvd it likely will not work. The NOES bonus disc is a dvd so it is pal encoded and won't work on my ps3

This is a site I use to see if Blu-rays I buy from the UK will play in my good old U.S. of A PS3:
