The first episode was amazing. The second was a little too FotW for me. Hoping for an amazing conclusion on Sunday!

Has anyone picked up the 24" Sony PS3 3D monitor? It's on sale this week at BB for $299. I'm thinking of hooking it up to my laptop as a second monitor. Pros? Cons?

There's a giant thread over at CAG. It's been on sale (again) since last week for $299.99, this week though it's in the ad. It was on sale either the week before Christmas, or the week of Christmas also. A lot of people think they will drop further $200/$250.

CONS:
It's a display, so no TV tuner.
It works as a PC monitor, but it doesn't work with Nvidia 3D, and no support coming.
No remote, although I hear the new PS3 blu-ray remote works well if you already have it.
It's only 24"
Reports of it going black, losing picture during games, then coming back on.

PROS:
Simulview, if the game supports it two players each seeing their own screen (no 3D, and you need another pair of glasses.).
Comes with Motorstorm Apocalypse.
3D movies/games for $300 bucks.

I'm reading that my laptop, even with a 1.3c HDMI port and an amd 5870 video card, will still not support 3D.

I believe you need a 1.4 HDMI port.

Probably, I thought it was just the cable that mattered. Eh, I can probably get a better 24" PC monitor for $300. I just thought if I could get 3D working I would try it.

Hmmm, I just noticed this blurb on Amazon UK's site.

"Please note that this product will not play on US spec 60i Blu-ray players as the Blu-ray discs are authored to UK 50i specs."

Then I saw http://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-pla...atibility.html

It lists the PS3 as not being able to play 50i content.

So, this looks a no go for the UK region free disc?

Yeah, i was looking at the butterfly effect collection the other day and the reviews on the site show it is 50i and that it didn't play on the ps3 so I would avoid those.

Just got a message that PSN is being renamed the Sony Entertainment Network along with new terms of service. Of course, their website doesn't reflect that.

You know, the first thing that came to mind when I read that is the speculation that there might not be a next generation game console from Sony.

However, it's more likely because they want a single network that includes things like TVs (with built-in access) in addition to consoles.

Your account is being renamed from a "PlayStation Network account" to a "Sony Entertainment Network account," because it will connect to more than PlayStation Network. source

"PlayStation Network" is still "PlayStation Network." source

You use your Sony Entertainment Network account to log in to the PlayStation network.

Blah, so I started getting some high pitched whining through my surround sound and it was coming from the 360 and the ps3 so after some troubleshooting I found out my amazon basics hdmi cable that went from the system to the tv seems to be bad. When i hook the hdmi from each directly to the tv, no hiss, also if i go through the system with one of the other 2 hdmi then no hiss. Guess i need a new hdmi cable now :/

Amazon is great, but all your cables should come from Monoprice. Trust us.

A 6 foot cable with shipping would have cost me more than amazon. I don't see why i should spend more for practically the same cable :P

Plus i don't trust monoprice since I believe they got hacked a little while back.

I use MP for nearly every cable at work and home (I do pro AV stuff for a living). I think their quality is superb if you plan on moving/plugging/unplugging the cable alot. If you plug it in once and really never touch it, then the Amazon one is fine.

And MP got hacked well over a year ago. They fixed the bug they had and everything is fine.

I downloaded both games but only played the Simpsons so far. I'm not too impressed by it. To be fair, I wasn't into the original back in the days, but I can't get into it.

Does anyone know any good third party online repair shops? I think my graphic card is overheating.

Re: The Official PS3 thread - Aaaaannnnnnddddd we're back!

Holy hell, Playstation Plus went nuts today. Today they gave away not just Far Cry 2 as advertised, but also Hampster Ball, Mah JongTales, Fatal Inertia ($29.99 still), Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket Cars, Infernao Pool and Battle Fantasia. That's what, $90 of games this week after giving away The Simpsons last week? How is anyone not a PS Plus member at this point?

BTW : The free House of the Dead III Dynamic Theme was apparently one too many for my PS3. Who knew there was a limit to the number of themes you could have? Went and deleted a few crap ones and I'm okay for now...
