What about security wise for these freebies? Can people with multiple accounts get 2 free games PER account? Also is there anything stopping someone from just creating a UK account to get another 2 freebies and vice versa? Could I create a UK account to get Ratchet and Clank instead of Stardust? How is Sony going to manage all that? It's not really fair if people with alot of accounts can just CLEAN HOUSE.

Willing to bet your account would have to have been created before the outage occurred. I'm sure that isn't that hard for them to manage.

I'm guessing that newly-created accounts are not eligible.

Glad I created a UK account for a demo a few months ago.

I created a UK account too, but i did it years ago for the early Killzone 2 demo. But that was on my PHAT PS3 that died last march. And i never bothered to put the UK account back on my SLIM... :(

Agree with this. WipEout HD is really cool and Fury adds a lot more content. You're comparing a $25 package to a $10 one. I have both and like both, but if you're going with one of them it's easy to pick WipEout HD.

Super Stardust is basically Geometry Wars on a spherical surface with three different weapons.

Pretty cool on the free stuff, rather have that than the plus. But I wish we were just given a credit and allowed to choose what we want. The other games I have or dont care for... damn!

Hey, how do I turn off this asshole of a ticker on my PS3? It's like having hemorrhoids on the XMB. I wa somehow able to turn it off on my old fatty (now broken) PS3, but I can't seem to figure out how to do it on my new Slim.

Ah - figured it out. I just set the date to 28 years in the future (just the year, I kept the date and time the same) and viola, no ticker!

28 years, because that's when the yearly calendar repeats, not that it should end up mattering.

Can't say any of the games they are giving away interest me.

Except for when people complain about it, I never notice the ticker.

What is the "ticker"?

On the main PS3 menu, at the top. There's a scroll of what's going on regarding all things PS3. Good to know Slop, thanks. I think I may do the same thing as well.

Eurogamer has seen video evidence that verifies reports that Sony's PlayStation Network password reset system suffers from an exploit that allows attackers to change your password using only your PSN account email and your date of birth – information compromised in the PSN hack of 20th April.

Sony today made PSN sign-in unavailable for a number of its websites, including PlayStation.com and the PlayStation forums. All PlayStation game titles are also unavailable.

Crucially, the website users are directed to by password reset emails is now down.

"Unfortunately this also means that those who are still trying to change their password via Playstation.com or Qriocity.com will be unable to do so for the time being," Sony said. "This is due to essential maintenance and at present it is unclear how long this will take.

"In the meantime you will still be able to sign into PSN via your PlayStation 3 and PSP devices to connect to game services and view Trophy/Friends information."

Sony later tweeted: "Clarification: this maintenance doesn't affect PSN on consoles, only the website you click through to from the password change email."

The exploit was first revealed on Nyleveia.com.

"I would suggest that you secure your accounts now by creating a completely new email that you will not use ANYWHERE ELSE, and switching your PSN account to use this new email," recommends the site.

"You risk having your account stolen, when this hack becomes more public, if you do not make sure that your PSN account's email is one that cannot be affiliated with or otherwise traced to you."

NeoGAF users have also corroborated the claim.

Nyleveia claims to have contacted Sony about the exploit. "The system went down approximately 15 minutes after I received a response from SCEE on the matter."

Sony has taken the page in question down, and with any luck is fixing the exploit.

Eurogamer has contacted Sony for comment.

So who does MS send the muffin basket to? /b/, Anonymous? This is turning out to be one of the biggest blunders I can think of, good thing this is a game console network and not something more vital.

Really Sony?

A few days ago when their website first came back up, I logged in and was forced to change my password. I did and figured things would slowly return to working order.

Now, they get hacked again because they didn't make sure their password reset tool was free of exploits? Who did Sony hire as their security expert? Grover?

What can a hacker do with a psn account? Are they able to redownload the games you have on the account?

no. Sony put in a new security procedure to prevent this. they're keeping the store closed.

Absolutely nothing.

From what I understand though the site that found it notified sony and within 15 minutes they had the sites taken down. Can't hate them for being so quick at it.

Besides, when the CEO of sony jumps off a building for all this going wrong they'll just make Kevin Butler CEO and Sony will be much more fun.
