Did the Hamburg event not take place last week?

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Polygon: Looks like the new Guitar Hero will be unveiled April 14

Reports of Activision's new Guitar Hero appear to be accurate, based on an invite that Polygon received today. We received a press pass to the SoundDial festival, an event at which seemingly fictitious bands Broken Tide, Blackout Conspiracy, Our Pasts Collide and other bands will be playing.

While our invitation didn't include details about the event's date or venue, other outlets have apparently received similar invites to a "new game reveal event" on April 14.

There's no official word from Activision yet that this is a Guitar Hero-related event, but the SoundDial festival and interactive music videos for that event have appeared on various casting websites. One dancer lists a "SoundDial interactive music video shoot" on her résumé, saying the job was related to "Guitar Hero for PS4." Another actor lists an "interactive music video game" gig for a company called SoundDial. A handful of actors on Casting Call Pro list work for a Guitar Hero project filmed in 2014 for London-based Pulse Films.

Don't blow this for us, Activision!

Unless you were somehow able to snag Appetite for Destruction. In that case, all will be forgiven.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

We'll know more later today, but Eurogamer is reporting:
  • The title is "Guitar Hero Live"
  • It's being developed by FreeStyleGames (DJ Hero)
  • It's first-person, trying to make you feel as if you're a guitarist on-stage
  • The new guitar controller has six black and white notes, in two rows of three

So completely incompatible with every existing guitar. Good idea!

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

This could be pretty cool if there are multiple channels and easy to switch between them:

And then there’s Guitar Hero TV, an online experience that lets you play along with various "channels" of music playlists that run 24 hours a day. GHTV eschews the first-person background for official music videos. It’s Guitar Hero Live’s de facto online multiplayer / offline party experience, and it’s so integral to the game that the guitar controller has a dedicated button for jumping in and out of the mode. "Out of the box you can go play on the channels to your heart's content without paying any kind of subscription fee," tk said. If you’re wondering about potential premium channels / premium ŕ la carte tracks, that’s something the company isn’t talking about yet.

This game is DOA for me. Not buying a new guitar.

Polygon has more details

Not to mention learning how to "play" with the new style/rows.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

I like the idea of a first-person view and a filmed, reactionary crowd and band. I just wonder if it'll get annoying after a while or how they'll handle DLC.

What I am curious about is that they say they filmed good and bad performances using a repeated tracking shot. They also say there's no "gates" where the game checks your performance so the feedback is real-time. How can both of these work together without a weird jump between video tracks? There's no way things will line up if it doesn't happen in the transitions between crowd and band/member shots. That'll be very jarring.

God I love the presentation of this so much. But a new instrument with a new control scheme? I just can't.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Best Buy has it up for pre-order.

$10 reward cert if you preorder, and 20% off with GCU. Dammit...

If they add it to the $10 GCU preorder set and give me 20% off when it launches, I might drop the $80... Ugh, makes me feel dirty.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

Yeah I think I'm in on this at Best Buy. I've spent way more on useless statue editions of games. For $70, making the guitar essentially $10, I'll bite.

Has there been any info on the karaoke/mic part of it?

Just this, so far:
Activision would not confirm when asked if drums and microphones would also be made available for the new title.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

GHTV talks about "party" mode. There has to be something more than just single-guitar support, yeah?

I think it's neat that they're at least trying something different. Seems like consumer reaction doesn't seem particularly interested in buying more hardware though.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread

I do like the looks of that controller.

The 2X3 layout is interesting and a new challenge. Most of the reward for me in playing these games is learning to do more than mash buttons and its the feeling you get when you move from Easy to the next level and then next level and the next.

The video captured crowd is going to get on my nerves after about the 3 time.

But the main thing is the music. Starting back at zero in GHL when I have 500+ songs in RB4 that will moved over is what is going to make me wait for this to hit the clearance bins.

I agree, and this is the only reason I'm interested in this one. The list of bands don't do a whole lot for me so far, though.
