Sorry, who said anything about abandoning the existing console market? I may be too stupid to remember where that was said, so please forgive me in advance.

I don't think anyone assumed it was going "self contained console ONLY". At least,, I certainly hope they didn't, that would just be silly.

Actually, Guitar Hero being "console-less" has been talked about.

Yeah, that's what we've been talking about. But that article doesn't even imply they're going "console-less only".

If Activision thinks they can make more money with GH by ditching MS/Sony/Nintendo and setting up their own network and pricing, then for sure they'll do it.

No way that'll fly with the GH faithful who already have consoles. If they do this it would be for an entirely new market that don't have a console.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
Well last week I dumped all my GH stuff. Traded the games for GS credit and donated the guitars and drums to the church youth group.
Sooo ... I think I'm pretty much done with GH. Yep.

Of course GH is not RB...and the gap will even be bigger once stars are patched...but after all the importing of GH SH, WT, and DLC....I have a very strong, unique from RB 55 song setlist for the Guitar Hero 5/GH platform. Plus, GH M is amazing.

Weird. I have also. But I reconsidered after seeing the trade values on all the GH games. I will just keep them and play them whenever I want to play a certain song that is not on RB every now and then. It's worth the 5 to 10 bucks to just keep them.
As far as future releases go...I will not buy anymore until they hit the clearance aisle or I get them in a trade. You won't see me putting more than 15 bucks cash or $20 in trade points to get their future releases.

I totally bit on the GH5/VH deal, but barring some unforseen OMG TOTALLY AWESOME EARTH-SHATTERING development -- which would have to be GH: Led Zeppelin -- I'm done with the Guitar Hero franchise for good. I'll still play the games I have, but I will buy no further GH games, nor will I purchase any GH DLC (of which I haven't bought any in the past and, let's face it, has been all-around suckyness anyhow).
My RB library is huge, diverse, ever growing and full of songs I love to play without having to shell out extra $$$ for discs or swap games (I don't give a shit about "stars" in Quickplay, I mean honestly who gives a Christ?) I also enjoy chocolate-covered peanuts and adult movies

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
Well after GH3 I played GH less and less with each release. I loved playing GH3 but I really never played it enough now to justify keeping it anymore. The others I didn't mind parting with at all.
I got about 70 bucks of store credit which was a lot more than I though I would get for them all.

I just cannot stand Neversoft/Activision and they way they develop games now. That really put me off the entire GH franchise.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
Between Kotick's douchbaggery and my opinions on Neversoft, it warms the cockles of my heart to see people abandoning the GH series.
Still, I wonder what the mainstream gamer thinks about the series at this point in time. September's NPD numbers (with both GH5 and Beatles:RB) should be really interesting.

I know everyone bags on GH's DLC...but The Eagles, Seger, Hendrix, etc...are amazing and not on RB.

Otherwise, it is a one band game against a known franchise with twice the songs and a large variety...at least to kids these days.

Re: Guitar Hero: The One and Only Thread
I wonder how revealing that would be unless TB:RB somehow blew GH5 out of the water in sales (which I doubt). If that happened, it would show a massive drop off for the GH series.
