Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
Please read the OP, but specifically:
Pass up killing them unless you really need to...be a target to whatever extent is possible...say "nice shot" if they get a lucky one in (or when you let them)...encourage them...just generally play like you would if you were playing with your kid.

From the OP:
RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:
This game is not intended to be competitive. It should be a low threat learning environment, and I will moderate it as such. People coming in to "pwn N00bs" can expect to be promptly booted. My expectation is that more experienced players should take on a teacher/target drone role in order to develop everyone's skills and not discourage people who are new to the game. NO MINES (air or land).

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
Awesome, awesome, awesome night...except for flip just whooping my ass.
"Your punishment is having me on your team."
"NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!"
Lots of close games tonight, one pointers or ties...dudes trying to plant the flag in the last millisecond. Probably my favorite moment of the night is racing back to my base with 40 seconds or so, hearing "He'll never make it"...then "Wait, he might!!!"...Chew (I think) grabs our flag with about 10 seconds left, and all I can do is wait at the flag post...I see Chew gets killed on the popup and I die a little inside when we don't save the flag in time. I love that kind of stuff.
My funniest moment was on Grinder...driving a jeep back and forth in front of the red base just running dudes over. I, no lie, must've run over 8-10 guys before they got me...just laughing hysterically!
The other one was also on Grinder. Digi drops the flag on the middle of the map, and rather than going to grab it, I just aim my rocket launcher at the base of it. Two red dudes converge on it at the same time and I let it go to watch them 'splode in opposite directions.

Fun times tonight. Enjoyed being able to do the expansion stuff as well, and the downloaded version made it much smoother to start up, but damn if it didn't reset all my settings. Have to fix that at some point.
Also, chess, asked in the 360 thread, but what does your Metro 2033 coupon do?

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
So, some of you guys could hear me during the first or second match, right? It seemed like Flip and Chew said something about my mic working, and then Chess said I sounded like an evil midget or something.
For the past two weeks I've had my mic turned on and have just been talking into it hoping that it would pick up, and it seemed to for at least a few moments last night. Or maybe it worked all night and my trash talk just isn't as entertaining as I had thought.
I, personally, thought my rendition of my original single 'These Balls' sung to the tune of Lee Hazlewood's 1966 classic 'These Boots are made for Walking' was amazing. Maybe next week Chess can join me in a duet debuting my newest hit, 'Free Ballin', we'll be a couple of heart breakers and make that fucker Tom Petty proud.
Tonight was so much fun, and it really made me wish I had bought the boosters sooner. [insert-toldyousos-here].
I think we need Jetpacks on every map.
TOW'ing Brian right after Chess told him to team kill me was great, and running down Chess and Sean while they were trying to save their flag was great.
The new guys seemed to pick everything up really well, but I had a hard time with these new maps. I kept capturing the flag and then driving off cliffs and shit. Upsetting.
All and all, can't wait for next week.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
In my defense, I was pretty focused on some batshit crazy jeep driving...zipping through trees and stuff. I thought it was Chew's name that popped up, but perhaps someone else? Is it possible that flip saved the tie on the map????The new guys had a good time. K-town is particularly lost though, and I don't even consider him a resource when I'm balancing the teams.
I felt like the balance was pretty good last night. Hopefully you guys are OK with the team-changes I've been making.
Also curious how folks felt about the new maps and the jetpacks...

I've said it before and I'll say it again: those UFOs on the expansion maps are way too hard to take down from the ground. It only takes one dead-center shot from a tank on a Warhawk. With my tank last night, I had two direct hits and another off-center while it was occupied elsewhere. It flew off unharmed.

It is quite possible that flip saved the tie, sucker.

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
I know that's a reference to something, but I can't place it...or are you just talking about hosting duties?
I don't like the dropship either. It kind of breaks the game if folks know how to use it. You get 3-4 guys in that thing manning the missile turrets, and you can be a real PITA for the other team...plus you can sort of fly with the flag by carrying a vehicle. That's why I'm always hesitant to load up Omega Factory maps. That map doesn't have a lot of great layouts anyway though, so no big loss. It was by far the weakest of the expansions IMO. Still, I took that bastard down 3 times last night...once with 3 guys in it...and always with flip sandbagging me from altitude!
I always thought the Tau Crater expansion would be my favorite, and I do love the jetpacks, but I think Vaporfield Glacier is a much better map overall.
Damn, I had fun last night...the most fun I've had playing any game in a long time!!!!

Yes, last week was awesome too, but I really liked the freedom of the expansion maps and jetpacks...from a hosting standpoint...and everybody was on their best behavior.
I just hope my office-mates all stick to it. They are absolutely terrible, but it's fun to talk about around the "water cooler". Actually, Sean seems to be getting better, but he's not even close to the rest of you guys.

is it a coincidence that you guys have had awesome games 2 weeks in a row and I have not played for 2 weeks?

Re: Weekly Tuesday Warhawk night
During one map I think I killed manhunter like four times in a row, but I swear I didn't mean to. He kept coming over with Chew, and I blew up their tank something like two times, and then a few minutes later I see another tank coming so I left it alone and instead blew up a truck. Low and behold, Flip was in the fucking tank and I had just lit up Chew and manhunter again. After that I decided to leave the binoculars alone and instead just go get the flag. I told myself I would not kill anybody, so if I died so be it. I turn a corner and accidentally run someone down. Guess who? I felt like a mega prick and he probably thinks I'm some kind of point whoring bastard. To kick it off, I got the flag, almost made it back to base, and drove off the map into a river or something. I sat the rest of that map out.
