I think I spent 30 minutes going the wrong direction the first time I left the vault. It wasn't til I started getting owned that I realized the first city that you're supposed to go to was back the other way right outside the vault. Oops.

Is it just me or is the map a pain in the ass to use? I can't figure it out. How do you set your marker, and what does the marker even look like. When I go to the map the thing that I assume is the marker just moves around the screen.

I'm a pretty amateur video game player, but I did love Oblivion. So far this game is great, just having a hard time using the map, and finding some damn money!

The character creation is awesome. I made an african american with a balding hair line, and survivalist beard. Poor guy's only 19 but he looks gnarly.

The water is actually a great way to gain health, despite the radiation.

I made a crazy looking albino with green hair. He unintentionally looks like the guy from Mercenaries. I thought I read somewhere your Dad would look like you. I have made three guys and the Dad looks the same all the time. I was hoping ol' Dad would be sporting the green mohawk as well.

The map is pretty easy. The flashing point is your destination on the compass. I just wander around aimlessly.

FYI : It appears that the game guide to Fallout 3 is ringing up for $9.99 at Circuit City now. I brought a copy up to checkout and asked for a price scan and that's what showed up -- no coupon given or extra purchase done. At that price, it's gotta be worth getting, right?

I picked this up with credit at Blockbuster on PS3. Haven't opened it yet, but might go ahead and trade it back in for the 360 version. I can live without the achievements but I'm seeing EVERY review give the 360 version a couple tenths of a point or more extra. Anyone know what this is about? Also, is there exlcusive DLC for the 360? Thanks.
edited to add... screw it, I'm swapping, just found the release from Bethesda talking about significant exlusive DLC for 360 and PC.

Does your dad's race at least change to match yours?

Excuse my ignorance on this front, but I noticed how similar the cartoons on the box and bobble head are to those drawings in Bioshock. Are the two games at all related in story?

Can't wait for mine to arrive, but it probably won't be here until after work on Friday. I ordered it off ebay when the live.com promotion was at 30%. Just reading some of these posts has me ready to jump right into it.

They both just contrast the idealistic 60's imagery against the bleak, dystopian settings the games take place in.

You already answered part of your question, but supposedly the 360 is also a bit better then the PS3 graphic wise as well.

Me too..waiting for this and Little Big Planet from the same seller, shipped yesterday. In the meantime, I have Saint's Row 2, Fable 2, and GH:WT barely touched yet.

I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to get this on 360 or on Steam. The user mods make me lean towards Steam, but I have a feeling this game will test the limits of my laptop.

OK, my Macbook is using a Intel GMA X3100 graphics processor. The specs for Fallout 3 list only NVIDIA and ATI graphics cards. Would Fallout 3 worked if I downloaded it on Steam? Everything else about the laptop falls into the suggested specs.

So the similarity in the drawings is just a stylistic coincidence or are they actually part of the same meta-universe (like the way all the Star Wars games are sort of related)?

I don't keep up with the laptop graphic cards much, but I found a thread on the bethesda forums. Doesn't look like that card will run it. They rank video cards in the second post.

Any integrated Intel graphics has been ridiculously shitty for years on anything gaming related, and probably wouldn't be even worth it for anything modern. Good reason why Apple went to Nvidia.

Sigh. Xbox 360 for me then, unless I want to swap out my graphics card.

About 6 hours into the game. Slowly taking my time and enjoying the whole experience.

This game is just too fun so far. Just finished up my first two quests.

Got a lot of cool stuff in town. Hope there will be a better way to earn money later on.

How do you get rid of radiation? I took too much and now every few seconds the screen gets really blurry.

And how do you heal? I know in oblivion it was automatic healing. I dont have any health packs so how do you go about acquiring them?

There's medicine for the radiation and for healing. You can also sleep in a bed to heal completely. Drinking fountains give you HP as well.
