One of the directors here at work just walked in. he said he played until about 5am and it was spectacular. He said it took roughly 3 hours to get out of the vault.

Awesome. My copy will be here in a couple of hours, and my guide tomorrow. I'll have a day and a half to try this out before I work on Thursday and Friday.

I need to play this game.

I was checking ESPN.com, and I see that image of Bud Selig during the press conference explaining why he said game 5 of the World Series would resume on Wednesday instead of tonight. In his left hand, he's holding something. I kept thinking how funny it'd be if someone photoshopped a copy of Fallout 3 there instead.

So that's the real reason, eh Bud?

anyone pick this up at CC? I got the $10 gift card fine, but had a problem with the mini-guide coupon for 25% off the actual guide.

When they inputted the coupon, they told me that to get it to work, I had to buy both the normal guide and the collector's edition guide. The coupon does not state this anywhere, and in fact it doesn't make any sense, but they couldn't override it.

I bought the normal guide without the coupon anyway, since it rang up at 14.99, which is 10 bucks off the retail 24.99 for the guide. However, even if the coupon did work, 25% off of that would be 11.24, which is still more than the $10 that the CC ad states.

3 hours? He must have done a lot of exploring. Took me under an hour and I had no clue what I was doing.

I spent my hour lunch break playing this on my laptop, and it definitely takes it's time getting going, although its cool how they start you off designing your character and picking your abilities and traits.

I *think* i'm just about to leave the vault. It's pretty cool so far.

What $10 gift card are you referring to?

I just got my collectors edition from Amazon. The lunch box is smaller then I thought, but still really cool. The bobblehead is nice, too. Not cheap or flimsy at all. The art book is the icing on the cake. I probably won't watch the making of DVD.

I am totally satisfied with the purchase and I haven't even started the game yet.

I just played for an hour or so, and it is excellent. I don't remember the last time I had so much fun playing a tutorial.

The V.A.T.S. is awesome. I use it every battle.

Spoiler:
It was fun taking revenge on those kids that messed with me

I also bought the game and the Collector's Edition strategy guide from them. It took about a minute to buy the game and 2 trips (I had to return to work before the were able to finish the first transaction) and almost 30 minutes to buy the strategy guide. I don't really understand what the problem is but it took 4 different employees to try and figure it out and then finally the one helpful person just decided to take 25% off the price of the guide. Whoever put that particular promotion together needs to go back to kindergarten. It had to be one of the biggest pain in the ass buys I have ever made in my life.

And WTF is the deal with the game freezing for a few seconds every time that someone logs on or off of the PSN? Is that not utterly ridiculous or what? Please fix that shit!

Hmmm. For some reason, the Circuit City here is selling the game with a $10 gift card and the free mini-guide. You can buy the big strategy guide for $9.99 in addition to all of the above.

Now, looking at the 25% off coupon and the list price of $24.99 for the strategy guide, there's no way the price should be $9.99, but this is the offer the salesclerk said she was told to give to customers.

(She said when she tries to input the 25% off coupon, it doesn't work so she just does a manual override to get to that $9.99 price. Maybe I just got a clerk who can't do basic math correctly?)

The price is 9.99 in the ad, so I'm assuming they have to honor that, despite their crappy coupon and bad math (it rings up at 14.99, so 25% off brings it closer to 10 bucks, but not quite). I'm going back tomorrow to pricematch to their own stupid ad. No wonder they're doing so poorly.

It took me about an hour and a half in the vault. I already restarted twice, and with the guide coming tomorrow, I will start over again.

dsa_shea: How does the PS3 version look graphically, compared to Oblivion? I hear the PC version is really the way to go, but I don't want to install Windows on my MacBook Pro, and it's the 2007 model, so I don't know that I'd be able to run the PC version at full details anyway. I guess that's a moot thought anyway, as the PS3 version is in the mail!

nickdawgy: Why the start overs? Seems like half the fun of the game is finding what you can discover on your own, and maybe looking at a guide later to find things you missed...

I think the PS3 version looks good. It is very comparable to Oblivion in my opinion. They're not the best graphics you will ever see but considering the size of the world they are really good. The game is a lot of fun which makes the graphics really a secondary point of contention in my book. Go get it and enjoy it.

Got this last night and played it for a short while. Great game so far. I tried just going through it wuick to give me an idea of what to expect (i still have about 15 PC games to get started on....and am deep into Farcry 2 at the moment). I killed someone i regret killing in the Vault and didn't save someone that i did try saving. So i think when i get back to this game proper it will be a restart for me. I managed to leave the vault and made my way towards the Washington Monument. Didn't manage to make there as i got my arse handed to me by a guy with a flamethrower. Almost made it there though. The world looks pretty damn big and i love the atmosphere you get. In this case less is certainly more. Very quiet and very desolate. I managed to meet a few people and kill a few guys and a fire ant. I like the action points system you can bring up. Adds something to the fights and i am sure it will just get better then more weaponary you get. I cannot recommend the game highly enough just from my hour or twos play last night. The graphics are great and i love the fact that in conversation you can really be a douche bag.

I was kind of half goofing off, half forgot to save

I killed someone and the whole town went after me right at an auto save

I was only at the first town both times. I found a car dealership, a hotel/tower, and an old school.
