Knowing your gaming and buying habits, I'd say buy it now and play it immediately...then flip it on Craigslist or trade it. I'd be surprised if you eat much, if any, on it.

The game is MASSIVE (think Oblivion with some variety, decent combat and a better story) and has plenty to keep you busy for a month or two. IMO, playing the game proper and the DLC in the same run could be overwhelming. If you buy the game proper now and sell it, you can get the GotY for cheap next year and play it like a sequel.

You really shouldn't wait until late 2010 to play this game. Period.

No it's not true. I've played them all and I didn't start a new game.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears

Having played a bit of Mothership Zeta, and all of the DLC as they came out, I have to say that I wish it would've been switched with Point Lookout in terms of release. For this to the "final" DLC piece to Fallout it just isn't doing it for me. It's neat and fun thus far, but feels much more like Anchorage (which was my least favorite of the DLC) than The Pitt or Point Lookout.

If you have all the dlc and have yet to play it. Does it matter what order you play it in, like can I start with Broken Steel instead of Operation Anchorage ?

Yeah, you can do whatever you want. You discover the location for the DLC content by hearing new radio broadcasts which tells you where to go, so you can choose when you feel like playing them.

It does not matter what order you play the DLC in, with the exception of Broken Steel - that one just extends the main questline, so there's no real "starting point" like the others. It's just a natural extension of the game.

Maybe I missed something, but why would he have to? The GotY edition is being released in October 2009.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears

Thanks for the info guys!

Like you suggest chess, I should maybe get the regular game now than sell it. I was at BB yesterday and saw all the add on packs for 360 and holy shit, all that together must equal a whole new game. Now to find FO3 for less than $20

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears

Finished Mothership Zeta to complete the game with 1550/1550 achievements. Overall, probably the second best dlc, behind Broken Steel. It was closer to Operation Anchorage in how it played out, and actually felt like the smallest DLC yet. The atmosphere was great, and the tapes of captured humans was fun. The ending was not as epic as I had hoped, but still fun.

Clearly you don't know Ravenous. He won't give the GotY edition a passing thought till it's thirty bucks...i.e. next summer or so.

Id say $30 is too much, but since I cant even find the regular edition at $20, 30 will be perfect for GOTY

$30 is a great price for the regular edition IMO. Snatch it up, play it, and sell it.

You can thank me later for the great advice.

Second thought:

When the GOTY edition comes out, used prices for the regular edition should fall through the floor. I'd give it a couple months.

Was going to wait until October to get the GOTY edition, but then I made the mistake of playing a little bit of this at a friend's house. Went straight out and bought it at lunch yesterday. AWESOME game.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears

When Blockbuster had their big videogame clearance sale a while back, the PS3 Limited Edition (with lunchbox, Vault-Tec bobblehead, and art book) was going for $30. Managed to find it after checking about 5 local BBs.

For some reason, the regular edition, also on clearance, was priced higher than the LE.

Oh, and Mothership Zeta is pretty disappointing. Not as much of a letdown as most on the Internet are claiming (check out the Bethesda forums if you want to see some real bitching and whining), but easily the weakest of the DLCs. I place Operation: Anchorage above it simply because it rewards you with the most valuable piece of equipment in the entire game - the Chinese Stealth Armor.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears

Forget Game of the Year edition. They should call this the Game of the Generation edition. I am so sad to finally finish all of Fallout 3. I really wish they would come out with more DLC, but I have no idea if this is making them good money or not, so on to new things I guess.

Now I am pumped up for Fallout New Vegas, but I am afraid it will not live up to Fallout 3. Obsidian has a history of making good games, but never as good as the original in the series. Knights of the Old 2 was good, but not near the level of the first. Neverwinter Nights 2 was fun, but flawed and not NEAR as good as the first. If they continue their track record they will come out with a solid effort that will lack the polish and little gems of Fallout 3.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears

I finished Mothership Zeta last night/earlier today at 3:30 am, and it was thw worst DLC of all of them, at least for me. Maybe it's a toss up between Anchorage and Mothership. I'm just a big fan of the Wastelands, post-apocalyptic/nuclear war future, that not seeing any of that makes me mad.

Checking some forums it seems a lot of people didn't like it either. Still, after 200+ hours, 73 playing days (according to 360voice), I totally agree with foxdvd. I still need to get a few achievements, so I can easily get to 300 hours until New Vegas is released.

Re: The Fallout 3 Thread Of Exploding Teddy Bears

I finally just got around to starting this game and saw some of the posts regarding the DLC. Should I buy it all now and have it and just play it as I play my initial game? Or should I play the regular game thru and then buy and play the DLC?

I would buy them all now, and just play them as you come across them. Some of the weapons and perks you get will help with the rest of the game. Also, you will max out your level WAY before finishing your game, so Broken Steel is almost a must, which raises the level cap.
