I'm far behind most of you, but allow me to level my complaint against the Homicide desk:

Spoiler:
You do the same case over and over again! Drunk woman, hit with a pipe and strangled. They could have just has easily conveyed the whole serial killer thing with a couple of cases that had the same MO, and then had a few stand alone cases to keep it interesting. Very disappointing.

Also, there are numerous references in this section to the Black Dahlia case. Famous case, with a lot of information out there, but there's nothing in-game to bring gamers who may not be familiar with the real life events up to speed. Very strange.

Yeah, you have to just ignore the radio calls and drive to the spots marked on the map. What's really annoying with this is that you have to avoid spots from previous calls, because if you accidentally drive too close to one, it automatically jumps to a cut scene and you have to complete it.

Another small gripe, I noticed a lot more pop-in during the homicide desk than in traffic or vice. Lots of times the road, building exteriors or room interiors would be blurry as hell for 5 - 10 seconds, then the textures and details would fill in. It wasn't too irritating, except for a couple times where I was chasing a suspect and ran into or got stuck on an object that hadn't popped in yet. I did find that if I paused it and waited a couple seconds, the textures would fill in, so I just got in the habit of pausing whenever things looked like crap.

I cleared another vice case after posting last night and decided I'll finish the game out, then throw it up on half.com or amazon next week. If there's a sequel, hopefully it gets a bit more polish than this one.

I had no problems until I entered free roam and thats where I saw the pop in. I would be driving and my car would just stop as if I hit the brakes. Everything in the distance is blurry and then pops into focus. Only for me on free roam.

I stick with my 7.5 out of 10 review for this...just like GTA4, I think review scores are high...

Just wrapped up the Homicide desk last night.

Spoiler:
The big "reveal" of the serial killer's identity was kind of silly. "It's you! The temp bartender!" If you say so, Cole...I sure don't recognize him.

I did like the change of pace in the final case, where it becomes more of a straightforward adventure game. Get a clue, determine the next location, travel there, get the next clue.

I know they address it in the story, but going from Homicide to pretty much anything else just feels like a step down.

The last Homicide case was basically
Spoiler:
Where in L.A. is Carmen Sandiego?

But I actually enjoyed it quite a bit, since it was a change in pace.

I hated that on the 3rd time a body showed up they mentioned "some temp bartender" being on duty at least twice. So I knew it was the temp bartender but there was no way to make Cole know it. ;)

I guess I wasn't paying attention. I thought that the bartenders I talked to were the temp bartenders, so I thought they were different people. I didn't recognize the guy during the "big reveal", so it seemed like a random connection. Oh well, I got five stars, so who cares?!

You're better off not to pay attention honestly. The game is so rigid in it's path most of the time that it's almost punishing to try and think outside of the box in terms of the presented interactions.

 The honeymoon is officially over.

I had the exact same problems everyone is having with everything above.

Mine was over very quickly..I just didn't really want to talk about it yet. ;)

I still think it's a great presentation and I'm enjoying it, but there are lots of pitfalls and a number of small issues that seem to operate like nesting dolls.

Actually it's not IMO. Because in a typical Rockstar game there would be so much other stuff to do that if you had a problem with any specific aspects you could make your own fun. With this game the core gameplay is arguably the best part, which suffers from some flaws, but then the peripheral stuff is where things fall apart even more so you really don't have any options if you're not enjoying what it's doing.

That being said, I ended up paying far less than $60 for the game, but I still would've been ok with that price point for the experience thus far.

I think the game is awesome. It has some flaws, but it's still been one of my favorite gaming experiences of the last few years.

I'm disappointed you of all people, took the bait.

And my very brief time with the game is delivering my exactly what I wanted. A slow paced investigation game with some highly scripted action scenes sprinkled in.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.

For me, this game has a lot in common with Alan Wake. Not in specifics, just in overall things. The vibe is right, the characters are right, the interactions are right... lots of "stuff" is done right. There's just a weird disconnect with the storytelling that keeps me scratching my head.

It is very, very good, but not great. Still not done, but I'm figuring I'll end up giving it a B+.

Sorry..what I mean to say was "Rockstar ruined video game development as we know it. GTA3 was the apocalypse of gaming. The Houser brothers are 2 of the 4 horseman of said apocalypse. (Bobby Kotick and David Jaffe being the other 2 naturally.)"

I have it for Xbox and I never saw it either.

I love the game. I might still get rid of it after I am done, and maybe buy it later when there's a GOTY version or something, but I am enjoying it.

I forget and I am too lazy to look, but which one of you guys complaining was the one that said something like "Rockstar hasn't made a good game in 10 years"?
