yeah, 50 film reels isn't a huge deal. Now, finding 200 fucking pigeon's? That's a different story.
See above. Rockstar likes to do this. |

Pigeons? I remember packages were the pigeons in GTAIV?
I feel sorry for anyone who wasted time on that part of the game. |

Some of them are pretty nice. And Amazon sells them cheap.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
LOVING the game so far, great mix of crime scenes and action. Did have some weird frame-rate issues, flying along in my car and suddenly I stopped and had to wait for the city to build in front of me. Looked a lot like Inception.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I'll take the seagulls/pigeons from GTAIV over tracking down the 95 different vehicles in LA Noire any day of the week.
Finding all those vehicles is probably my least-favorite collectible hunt in any open-world game ever. I try to do all that optional stuff ASAP in open-world games before I do story missions (which I did with this game, I saved the final story mission for last and got my 100% achievement at the same time as the story achievement) and it almost ruined it for me. |

All those vehicles look the same to me.

Maybe instead of the currently useless Magic Suits™ they could give us new ones. One to detect film reels, one to detect cars.

As far as cars go, I've found 75 out of 95 without trying. What I like to do is block a major intersection (like Hollywood & Vine) and let the cars back up and just commandeer one after the other. |

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
That's the thing though, you'll hit about 75 easily and then you'll be wanting to kill yourself over how tedious finding the other 20 are. Most of them look incredibily similar and the spawning of particular vehicles seems to be more unpredictable than most open-world games.
Furthermore, as I said above: I try to knock this stuff out early on in open-world games. I do this because there's usually a reward for it. For example: you don't want to wait until after you finish the story mode in a GTA game to become fireproof, have additional health etc. You want that stuff while you're still playing the game. With LA Noire none of that stuff (badges, film canisters, vehicles) gives you ANY benefit, it's just more stuff that counts towards 100%. You don't get a new suit or a new vehicle or anything like that. Just stuff marked off a list. This game is a huge step foward in relation to GTAIV and RDR when it comes to presentation but its a huge step backwards in many respects as well. Even with all the mind-numbing boredom of finding all 95 vehicles I still managed to hit 100% in about 30 hours compared to 40 hours with RDR and 60 hours with GTAIV. |
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I really think they should have followed suit with Alan Wake and dumped the open world stuff, and focused on the cases. Although for this particular game, I'm guessing that they ADDED the open world stuff once Rockstar got involved.

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Agreed. But the stylse of collectible for the vehicles and film reels are wildly different. Cars jump out at you and are obvious. Even the hidden ones are marked as you rank up. Sure finding the last 20 may be a bitch, but for those I can use a guide.
It would have been nice if it was just "see" all the vehicles. As you drive around and get withing a proximity (like the landmarks) it would just count. Sort of like that old Texas Hold 'Em XBLA game shouldn't have had an achievement for having one of every hand, but rather just being at a table where it was seen. It would garner more people playing in more games. Rockstar wants you to see L.A., so encourage us to drive around and see stuff. Have the cars be part of that. Physically entering them shouldn't be required, especially with how long it takes to get in and out. |

This game definitely should have gone the Alan Wake route. |
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Yeah... not a fan of the open world here, or in games in general. It kills pacing and atmosphere and makes everything just feel really generic. Is the 95 car thing required to beat the game or is it a trivial "trophy/achievement" that I can ignore like most of them?
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
It's only for achievements and 100%. You can totally ignore it.
|
Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
Good to know

Re: LA Noire - The Thread.
I would say it is worth checking out some of the hidden cars (marked on your map as your rank up). Especially if you like to make immature jokes while driving around.

If anyone wants to get their public menace achievement easily I figured out that the fire trucks are worth like 10,000-12,000 car damage when totaled and the fire station always has one in it that respawns. A hell of a lot easier than crashing all the other cars that are worth next to nothing. |
