Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

About as funny as any other Penny Arcade comic (i.e., not at all), but still underlines a valid criticism of the game that many have brought up.
I rented the game from Redbox for a couple of nights and made it to China. Completed every sidequest in Detroit, at least every one that I found. I liked the game but didn't love it. I'm hooked by the story enough to pick it up and finish playing when I can get it significantly cheaper than what it's going for now. So, about 2-3 months.

It'll be called "The Missing Link." According to a post yesterday on the official site, the story has Adam "mysteriously" disappearing for three days, so this sounds like it happens mid-story. Per the description:
After being tortured by Belltower agents and having his augmentations disabled, Adam Jensen must rely solely on his basic capabilities to escape from a freighter, destined for an unknown location. While fighting for his survival on the ship, he uncovers another layer to the conspiracy that he never would have suspected.
We're told to expect "sprawling new environments," "brand-new characters" an, oh yeah, "Rebuild Adam's augmentation set from scratch," so it sounds like an opportunity to re-spec if you're unhappy with your choices so far.
A specific release date was not mentioned.

I just redboxed this as well. Hope to plow through some of it over the long weekend to but the complaints are scaring me a little. I kind of wanted to make a hacking character who used guns as a second option... and it seems like that won't work with the bosses.

I've found that hacking everything, and I mean computers, alarms, safes, doors, everything....
It's an xp fest and a money maker. It also has gotten me a ton of Praxis kits from xp and LIMB purchases. I am in Singapore now, and I nearly have all my augs maxed out.
So you can be a hacker and a badass.
I love the game, probably in the top 5 of the most fun I've ever had playing a game.

And you didn't input the pre-order DLC code? According to the Deus Ex wiki, that's the only way to get it.

Also, the game is awesome. Once you get to the free-roaming side mission stuff, it really starts to pick up steam.

Typhoon so far has made every boss a complete joke. Just fire it off once or twice and they are dead. Stupid, unnecessary boss fights.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
playing on the xbox360 and found my first major bug.
in Tai Yong medical facility upper floor. There is a room where you have to go thru all those lasers to make it into an elevator. Everytime you get into the elevator, the game freezes and you cannot continue.
after a bit of googling, found a workaround. apparently you have to disable all the lasers before getting on the elevator to prevent the freeze.
you can do this by either hacking the terminal near the elevator or just allow the laser to touch you.
anybody else run into this?

I played the game twice, and I wish I had just played on HARD the first time...if you play stealth you don't even fight the whole game, so difficulty does not matter, because it did not seem like the enemy AI was any different between normal and hard...and with Typhoon...on hard...it never takes more than 2 shots to kill the boss....

I was having trouble with the next to last boss fight when you
But yeah, useless fights.
But anyway, I finished the game. Totally awesome, and I will play it again to try a different approach. I think this game, along with Fallout 3/New Vegas have to be my top 3 so far of this generation.
Any of you that said you were passing on this are totally missing out.

Yeah to anyone just starting, get your conversation aug and typhoon early. I had a bitch of a time with the second boss, but once I got typhoon, the next boss was easy. The game is fucking awesome, but yes... the bosses suck. Oh, and to reiterate DO NOT take the biochip upgrade.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I just finished this game for the first time. It wasn't as good as the original Deus Ex, but it was miles better than Invisible War. This is the sequel that Invisible War should have been.
I think a lot of people were complaining for nothing. The bosses were ridiculously easy, and by going the stealth route it certainly does not limit your combat potential at all.
People act like going with stealth means you can't be a badass, but that is far from the truth. I don't think these people explored enough, because by the end of the game I had over 200,000 experience points and had all but one aug maxed out. I didn't even engage any enemies other than the bosses. I just hacked everything and explored every nook and cranny for the exp and hidden praxis kits. Getting Ghost and Smooth Operator bonus exp is better than fighting anyway. Here is a screenshot of my augs at the end of the game:

Yes, the mandatory bosses were a bad idea in a game focused on stealth. They should have been optional or had stealthy ways to deal with them like in the original Deus Ex. They were still very easy even with the forced battle. I played through the entire game using only the tranq rifle, 10 mm handgun, and concussion grenades. The handgun is very powerful when fully upgraded. It is silenced, laser targeting, and armor piercing. The bosses I dealt with by tossing a concussion grenade (or emp grenade will work too since they are augmented) to stun them, then I shot them in the head with the handgun. Do that three or four times and they are dead. The second and third bosses like to use cloak and sneak behind you, and that is easily countered by setting a concussion mine behind you.
Also, did anyone watch the post-credits scene? It confirmed that the guy from the intro is indeed Bob Page, and it plays the theme song from the original game. That was freaking awesome.

Spoiler:
I wonder if they will make a sequel to Human Revolution. It seems like the game pretty much leads directly into the original Deus Ex, but there is still supposed to be 25 years set between them. Maybe they will remake the original game instead. As long as they do it right, I would love it. The original game is old, and like most old games, it has problems running on modern hardware.

Here's a thought (some spoilers for the original Deus Ex).
I wonder if the makers of Human Revolution are playing with the latter explanation.
