Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

Aren't there like tons of "Games of the Year?" It seems like every title has some sort of GOTY edition eventually.

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

GOTY = some person/publication/website's choice of best game of the year.
GOTY edition = game companies' way of milking all halfway popular titles for every last possible cent.

The second does not require the first.

No way, I only go by what a publisher tells me is a GOTY.

Still pretty stupid, forced boss fights don't fit in this game at all.
Haha I felt kind of stupid when I figured out I didn't need to unload bullets into the guy.

Don't like the Boss Battles either. Probably my least favorite part of the game so far and I've only played one.

I just finished the 2nd one. The extremely silly thing was it all came down to:

Spoiler:
If you upgraded your Dermal Armor to not take/lessen Electricity Damage. I literally just walked around, waited by a Generator for her to attack me, she'd get shocked, I shoot her and then repeat.

I'm still having fun with the game though. The Augmentations are addicting!

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

is there a place to store stuff between missions?
if you drop something in your office, will it remain there?

are there any augments that are worthless?
are there any must-have augments?

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

I haven't had too much time to play with it yet, but I did get to the
Spoiler:
hostage situation/typhoon hunt
right after the intro.

Just a question or two about the beginning.

Spoiler:

1. My boss said that I needed to hurry, yet I I got an email saying that I should check out one of my co-workers to see if he's stealing drugs from the lab, so I went around hunting for answers for that, didn't find any. And then my boss said the situation has gotten worse, and when I arrived at the mission, I was told because I was late, hostages were killed. Could I have prevented that?

2. How plentiful is cash/XP/Praxis in this game? Do I really need to consider my augments with lots of foresight or will I eventually be able to max out a lot of my overall stats?

I did the same thing in regards to your first question. I am sure it could have been different. The game is all about choices.

As for your second question,
Spoiler:
credits are easy to come by for me. But then again, I hack everything, even if I have a passcode for it. That way I get more credits and xp. I used most of my Praxis for hacking upgrades. I just now added extra inventory slots and the heavy lifting.

I was wondering if the people you knock out ever wake up. The streets of Detroit are littered with bodies as I usually knock someone out when I pass them

I even knocked out the store clerk and his bodyguard. He needs to wake up so I can sell him some stuff

Must Haves (IMO):

-High Security Level Hack (Goes up to Security Level 5 on the tree) *Getting the Detection Upgrades may or may not help you, I didn't get many*
-Dermal Armor Upgrade (Damage Soften + EMP Protection)
-Typhoon Upgrade (Level 1 + 2)
-Energy Cells Upgrade (More Cells + Faster Regeneration)
-Cloak (All Levels *Eventually*)

The first two help a lot. Being able to hack pretty much anything is huge. You will find that being able to hack high level security terminals (with Turrets, Bots, Cameras) helps out tremendously in this game. Also the Armor Upgrade definitely helps because I think at the highest level it nulls 40% of the overall damage. Also the EMP Protection helps against EMP Grenades, Electricity and one of the bosses (tremendously).

Typhoon Upgrade Level 2 pretty much levels all regular enemies around you. Though I saved them for Bosses which helped out a ridiculous amount!

Just beat the game. Not as long as I thought it would be (maybe 25-30 hours) but I did a mix of Stealth + Gun Combat. The bosses were extremely lame (if you upgrade right, you can roll right through each and every one of them!) but the rest of the game was fun.

Did you go to your office before going to the roof on the first mission? I didn't get that email until I finished the hostage/typhoon mission. So yes it's possible to save the hostages I did they're all in a room with a bomb that has to be hacked.

Spoiler:
For the most part I've found credits all over, but I take them from people's offices, people I've knocked out, and anywhere I see one laying. But I spent a bunch at the informant chick to find stuff some of which was worthwhile others not so much.

XP seems to be, but like nickdawgy I hack everything I can, read every eBook I find, use the vent shafts, etc...

So far I've got 2 Praxis points (other than XP build up) you find one during the first mission (Hostage/Typhoon), and I've received one from a side quest.

I'm almost sure I had people I tranq'd get back up during the first mission.

I'm liking it more than I did when I started. I was trying to play the prologue 'stealth' (I had went through the tutorials all beforehand), but never got the take down options so I died a lot trying different things. I then went into the first mission stealth/distance and was having a heck of a time making my way through, and was about to give up. I watched an IGN video clip and noticed there were more 'hidden' ways to go for no confrontation, and started playing that way. I finished out the first mission, and have started wandering around the city doing side quests, and hacking into random apartments, but enjoying the game a lot more. I've not come across the first boss yet though so that may sour me a bit. My rental is due back tonight, but I think I'm gonna pick it up at K-mart before the $20 coupon deal goes off tomorrow.

People you tranq or knock out only get back up if one of their allies wakes them up.

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

i played thru a mission without alerting or killing any enemies. only knocked them out.
but i don't think i got the ghost bonus achievement.
how do you know if you got it?
does it pop up on the screen after you complete the mission?
is it possible to look at your previous completed missions to see if you got the ghost achievement for it?

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

You get it for completing a small area without being spotted. It popped up for me after I knocked out the tutorial dudes on the first mission and crawled into some air vent.

The way the guards fall over when you tranq them is hilarious. I love the physics in this game

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

Finished it...got the pacifist achievement but did not get the foxiest no alarm achievement, even though I always reloaded a save when I even had an enemy go hostile...at no point did an alarm go off..even the beginning...ugh...anyway I am doing a speed run on hard now...already in china...

best single player game I played this year...though Portal 2 is still the better game overall....

I am at the part where you
Spoiler:
find the signal from the hacker in Detroit

I am taking my time on this.

Oh and FYI, I found a bug that seems to be popular. Not sure if someone mentioned it, but on the mission
Spoiler:
Motherly Ties, if you kill or knockout everyone in the police station before speaking to the cop for the case, you don't fail the case, you just sit in limbo when trying to turn it in. There's supposed to be four options to talk about but you only have three. You have to reload to get out of it.

In short, the mission is unfinishable.

Somebody just sent me an abusive voice/text message on Xbox Live because of my Deus Ex review. I hope it wasn't someone on here playing a joke because I just filed two complaints against them.

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

Finished my first run through. Enjoyed the entire game quite a bit, and will probably play it again doing a few things differently. It looks like I missed some side quests too, so I'll need to make sure I go back and do those. I really didn't mind any of the boss fights except the last one; that was the only one that was a bit weird for me.

I did a little of everything; some stealth, a lot of hacking, and a lot of killing. I used the Typhoon a lot later in the game; never really used the cloak even though I had it.

Unless I read a totally different review and mistook it for yours, I thought you were rather positive towards it. In fact, based on your comments here, I was surprised you didn't really rip it a new one. You just sorta said you liked it but expected more.

Re: Deus Ex 3 Teaser

I did like it, but I didn't love it, and it could have been much better than it was. My posts here are more in reaction to the "game of the year" comments, which I think are ridiculous.

But someone sent me a voice and text message on Xbox Live calling me a retard, and that I shouldn't review games if I don't know how to play them, etc.

Say, does anyone know where pinata was last night?? Dun dun DUN...
