Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

i have 2 energy bars.
when i do take takedowns etc.. my energy goes down, but it recharges over time.
what strange is that when it recharges, it only recharges up to the first bar.
I have to consume something in order for it to go back to 2 full bars.
why is that?

The automatic recharge only applies to the current bar. So if you use them all up, only the first one will fill back up on its own. I try to watch mine and not drain a full bar unless it's absolutely necessary.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

If the second, third, fourth, of fifth energy bars are fully depleted they do not recharge. Only the first bar recharges after being fully depleted. If you use something like the cloak or run silently augs and don't fully deplete the bar it will recharge. A melee takedown always depletes a bar and it won't recharge afterward.

Its a highly flawed system and basically means taking the augs to get the third, fourth, and fifth bars is almost worthless considering how rarely the candy bars are found. I understand why they did it since a maxed cloak lasts 7 seconds per bar and with 5 bars you could be invisible for 35 seconds, which would be overpowered, but the whole system could have used some more work. I know a lot of PC gamers have been discussing it, and I am sure they will eventually mod it somehow to make having the extra bars worthwhile.

Just got through the Barret boss fight. Absolutely horrible. I just love how you have to sneak your way through there (though I did have a few brief firefights) just to then have your character walk out in the open like a jackass.

You are already at Barrett two hours after you got the game? Man, you are rushing through it. I think it took me a good five or six hours before I got to Barrett, but then again I ghosted the whole game, did all the sidequests, and hacked every computer in the game.

You don't have to sneak your way through the game, but it does give far more experience points. Completing a main objective without being seen by any hostile gives the Ghost bonus worth 500 exp and without setting off any alarms gives another 250 exp. So going stealth gives 750 more exp over running and gunning. Considering you only get 10 exp for every guy you kill, and there aren't that many hostiles in any given mission, the exp is very unbalanced.

Its actually a shame that HR so heavily promotes stealth with more exp points unlike the original Deus Ex which gave the same amount of exp no matter how you played.

Thanks for that! Since manuals have become so useless, I didn't even look in the front cover of the game until I saw your post.

No. According to the stats on Steam, I'd been playing for a total of six hours (counting the previous day). And I accidentally fought Barrett. When I went to the relay antenna, I thought I was heading towards a side quest.

I haven't gone back to Sarif Industries yet so I can finish off all the sidequests before they ship my ass to Hengsha.

How do you accidentally fight Barrett? He is a forced encounter, so there is no accidentally about it.

The relay antenna was obviously a main quest. Main quests show up as yellow and side quests show up as blue.

Yeah, you can still finish the side quests up until you leave for China.

There is one side quest that is easy to miss.
Spoiler:
When you leave the police station, Pritchard calls and tells you to meet Jenny, but it never shows up in your quest log. I am not sure if that is a bug or not. Anyway, you can find Jenny in front of the DRB territory. She is a cop working undercover as a hooker. She gives you a sidequest that is easy to miss since it isn't exactly thrown in your face like all the others.

Truth be told, I was wandering aimlessly when I stumbled upon the antenna relay. Same as how I found the sidequest you mentioned.
Spoiler:
I never got a call but found her by randomly chatting up the hookers to hear what they'd say.

And thanks for informing me of the quest colours. I thought they just turned yellow to indicate I was close.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

I got this off of Steam for $7.49. I put a couple of hours into it last night. It is a really cool game, but I find it hard as hell. I have never been that great at stealth games, but this one is the toughest I have faced. I just finished the first "level" I think. It was a whole lot of trial and error. Another thing I can't figure out is why I don't have a silencer for my weapon. I am a state of the art killing machine with no silencer. So the gun is useless if you are striving for complete undetection. Also the ammo is extremely scarce. I went through the level with less than 10 bullets for the most part. I keep getting tranquilizer darts, but I can't find a tranquilizer gun. I thought that maybe I could put the ammo in the current guns I had, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. I dropped the difficulty down to the easiest setting until I get my bearings. Also, hacking has to be the most confusing thing I have faced in along time. I watch the tutorials, but it still is over my head. The only way I hacked anything was by luck. I am probably making it harder that it is. The story is very confusing. This is my first Deus Ex game so I am assuming that is the reason. I have no clue what is going on. Also why does a take down drain my battery, the game would be a whole lot better if I could do them whenever i want. They are really cool to look at.

That is a whole lot of negatives. The game reminds me of a hard to understand Perfect Dark. I am going to stick with it though.

be sure to explore your main hub as much as possible when you get the chance...that along with the main city has a lot of hidden items....the game rewards you for exploring...

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Here is one of the reasons I am having trouble I think. I haven't spent any time with an FPS since last year. I played Dark Souls almost exclusively from December until May 15th. I have played Diablo 3 exclusively since then.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

once you get the hang of it the game is super easy, even on the highest setting. If you take your time, and plan out your attacks you feel very powerful. The only part that can be hard, especially if you play stealth, is boss fights...but there is a stupid easy fix for this...Typhoon...upgrade that bad boy but do not use the ammo you find. Save those for the bosses...run up to any boss...push button...win...

Great game but like fox said you have to plan things out. This is not a run and gun shooter and exploration is key to finding weapons and upgrades

I actually just started playing this a second time through. Trying to get the no kills and no alarms achievements.

Is the DLC mission any good?

I am still on the fence about this game. I put about 30 minutes into it last night and all of that consisted of talking to people. I was trying to find some gameplay but couldn't. This game seems more like a movie than a game, kinda like the Metal Gear series. I should have downloaded a demo I guess, but I thought "hey, for $7 this is a no brainer". I am still gonna give it a couple of more hours to grab hold of me.

This game isn't anything like Metal Gear. Have you never played an RPG before? The Deus Ex series is an FPS/RPG hybrid. RPGs do tend to have lots of talking but they still have lots of actual gameplay as well. Metal Gear tends to have about 10 minutes of talking for every 5 minutes of gameplay.

I haven't played Deus Ex: HR in more than a year so it isn't exactly fresh in my mind, but I do remember lots of talking in the first level of the game. It really opens up after that however once you get out into the hub and are able to explore. Give it more time. 30 minutes isn't much.

Also, have you played the original Deus Ex? Its a significantly better game. The original Deus Ex redone with HR level graphics would be a wet dream come true.

i meant the game is like Metal Gear because there alot of story but not alot of gameplay. However i am early in the game. I think I am 2.5 hours in total. I am sure I will come back here in a couple of days and say how wowed I am...I hope at least.

at least do one or more main mission, the talking is heavy at first but try to sit back and get into the story. It is very well written...

The first Deus Ex is better, or at least compared to everything at the time it was better....having gone back it does not hold up as well as a game like Half Life...it just happened to be such a leap forward at the time...

I replayed it a few months ago, and I thought it held up well. The graphics are obviously extremely dated, being only slightly better than PS1 graphics but worse than PS2 graphics. However, the gameplay and story still hold up very well.

I have nothing but the fondest memories of playing the original when it came out. It is definitely in the top of all time for me. Seeing this thread made me go to Youtube and listen to some of the excellent music from the game, and got me a little sentimental.

maybe it is time for me to play it again...last time was at least 3 years ago...and I remember thinking Half-Life held up better..I don't care about the graphics....

i have not given up on it yet, but i am close. I played for around 45 minutes more last night and I was still just wandering around talking to people. Part of the problem is that the navigation markers are kind of confusing, i kept going to dead ends. i am gonna give it one more night in the next couple of days. however i bought it off Steam so it isn't like i can sell or trade it.
