Looks like I'm in the beta for Warhawk too. Think it'll be a download option tomorrow?

I will have to check later today to see if I'm in. Also, firmware 1.80 will be up tomorrow.

Log in there and it will tell you which betas (if any) you're currently in. Looks like I'm in the Warhawk beta too.
Also, the beta runs from 5/24 until 6/26.

Cool. It shows the old PS2 ones I was in, but nothing yet for PS3.

HOT. HOT. HOT!

PS3 Firmware 1.8

1080p upscaling for DVDs, PS2 and PS1 games. Whether or not the PS3 natively boosts the resolution of games isn't specified, but any form of upscaling should soften the visual blows received from that fancy HDTV of yours. Upscaled DVD movies won't compare well to Blu-ray movies, but it'll at least tide you over until American Ninja 4 gets a release on Sony's format. Note that DVD movies can only be upconverted using an HDMI connection.

Now this is very cool. The DVDs is nice, but I can't wait to see how the older Playstation games look.

I can create some sample images when I get home. One of the PS1 emulators does something like. It makes the normally unbearable 3D from that era actually tolerable. I'm actually worried about how they'll handle upscaling 2D images, I can already see the blur.

Man this and the $100 off SonyStyle offer are making this very tempting indeed.

As long as we have the option to turn it on or off for a each game I will be happy. Disgaea is killing my eyes right now and I would love to see it smoothed out a bit on my HDTV.

Will it upscale to 720p or 1080i as well?

I realize the Pirates game is a terrible game no one should be buying anyway, but I am really saddened to see this yet again on a PS3 review.

As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.
Sigh. With development budgets tight and the 360 the lead sku its really going to be rough on PS3 owners.

I'd imagine it scales up to your chosen system resolution.

FW 1.8 also includes the ability for owners can now view multimedia stored on a DLNA-enabled media center PC "seamlessly".

How do I know if I have a DLNA enabled PC? Do I have to be running Media Center of Vista OS?

Checked the PS3 tonight and the Warhawk Beta is there. Cool.

Also, the 1.8 update lets you transfer saves back and forth to the PS2 and PS1 memory cards. This is very important to me.

cool. Is there a link to the download online? I usually download the updates to a memory card and then put the card into the PS3. Thanks.

For those who've had problems with the PS3 having a washed out look, there are more settings in the Display section now with Version 1.8 that should help remedy the problem. Fixed my issues!

if only I could play my PAL discs on the PS3 I could get rid of an extra component in my setup.

Yes, that's the setting under HDMI: full or limited. What I believe this does is map the colors to your choice of video or PC levels (before it was just video levels). The reason for the washed-out color is because the display expects PC levels instead. It usually happens with DVI inputs, since those are often designed to expect input from a PC.

While I'm sure the DVD upscaling will make many happy, I am disappointed that 4:3 SD material on BDs (extras) are still not upscaled and still stretch to fill a 16x9 display. This means I have to manually switch the projector to 4:3 when viewing such material, and forget about using my computer monitor which has no controls for pillarboxing. That was the only reason I wanted upscaling in the first place, since I don't use the PS3 to watch DVDs. Oh well, maybe someday. It's hard to complain with all the other stuff that got added.

EDIT: Nevermind found the instructions on the PS3 website.
