Is the PlayStation Network ID (or whatever its called) tied to your console, or is it transferable, like an Xbox gamertag? My brother isn't really interested in using his PS3 online, but I wanted to create an account so we could download demos and stuff. I'm just wondering if I'd be able to transfer the account to another PS3, if for some reason I decided to get one of my own in the future.

I believe the network ID is transferrable. Just sign up on Playstation Underground and you should be set. You'd still have to go through all the sign up crap on a new console if I'm not mistaken.

Is there any way to get the PS3 to upconvert DVDs through HDMI? I can't get it to output anything but 480p. Also, when I start up a DVD I get a message about an incompatible audio format or something like that. When the movie starts the audio seems to be fine though. My receiver picks up a 5.1 signal (through optical). Anyone know what it mean? Thanks.

Nope - they don't upscale DVDs.

Hopefully Sony will come up with a patch for the upconverting....

Firmware 1.50 is out. I haven't looked up what it does yet though.

Well, apparently they fixed a lot of the graphical issues with PS1/PS2 games that people were complaining about. They are apparently looking much better, especially Final Fantasy 12.

JimmySRU 01-24-07 05:02 AM

can someone post a picture of what I need for My PS3 to pick up Wifi

Time to get 1.5 firmware...too bad I don't worn any PS2 games. What did I miss since FFX was released? (that was the last PS2 game I played)

Noonan 01-24-07 09:17 AM

Where are you guys reading that 1.5 helps with PS2 games? The article in Engadget didn't mention anything about it but it was based off the 1.5 update for consoles in Japan.

corbin dallas 01-24-07 09:43 AM

The PSN forums are buzzing about the PS2 games looking better. Supposedly it was part of the patch.

DJ_Longfellow 01-24-07 09:57 AM

I think the Japanese site says something about it....someone translated it over at CAG.

fumanstan 01-24-07 11:16 AM

Good news if true... i might actually go back and finish some of my PS2 games on the PS3...

corbin dallas 01-24-07 12:00 PM

Confirmed! PS2 games show a marked improvement now. I can actually play DMC without cringing. MUCH BETTER!!!! 'Bout time there Sony. Now fix the online BS and upconverting.

corbin dallas 01-24-07 03:31 PM

Well the official from sony doesn't mention a patch for the PS2 issues but I swear the graphics look MUCH better than before. Maybe it's wishful thinking and my brain is seeing what it wants to see...

JimmySRU 01-24-07 05:28 PM

Ralph Wiggum 01-24-07 09:25 PM

Anyone else getting slower speeds through ethernet than through WiFi on PlayStation Store downloads? I'm talking sub-14.4 here.

JimmySRU 01-24-07 09:26 PM
