Cool, you can play games while downloading. The one thing I don't see is a downloading resume feature... when is this coming out again?

It's built in, it will resume on its own. The only time it will pause is if you play a game online.
You can play games and download in the background, you just can't play online. So playing offline in a single player mode is doable, but once you hop into multiplayer or something that uses the network the download pauses.
When the online portion ends, the download resumes without any lost data.

If you download something and if it somehow interrupts, will the download resume because I had a time i waited about 2 hour for a download to finish and it froze at 96 percent then i had to redownload from the start, unlike the xbox where it resumes from where you left off. Sony has a lot to learn.

1.6 is now available.
I don't see where background downloading is really that big of a deal though. I download 1, maybe 2 things a week. It's really not inconvenient to start a download and go do something else for an hour. I guess it would be different if there was something new I wanted to download every day, but I can't imagine what kind of content that would be. It's not like a certain P2P app where you have to upload all the time to keep a ratio high.

Final Fantasy XIII exclusivity under discussion
One more platform-exclusive title may be going multiplatform, it has been revealed. The latest news appears to be that Square Enix's latest epic role-playing game, Final Fantasy XIII, may follow other titles--including Saints Row, Assassin's Creed, and Devil May Cry 4--that have now been announced as appearing on at least one other platform as well.
Sony Computer Entertainment France president Georges Fornay dropped the bombshell in an interview with French-language newspaper Les Dernières Nouvelles d'Alsace (subscription required). He said, "The development costs of games have exploded, and it has become more difficult to have exclusives, outside of our own games. But we have for launch day [in France] 30 games, including MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man, and Virtua Fighter 5. Moreover, we are expecting 200 games [for the PS3] by the end of 2007...As far as Final Fantasy XIII goes, I can tell you that the exclusivity is in discussion."
Fornay went on to say that he believed that the PS3 would be particularly successful in France, and that there had been approximately 60,000 preorders made (compared to 40,000 made for the Xbox 360, and 75,000 for the Wii). France will be getting approximately 150,000 of the 1 million consoles allocated to PAL regions.
He also answered questions about backward compatibility for the next-gen console, responding to fears that the console would not support many PS2 titles without the Emotion Engine. Fornay said, "Now, if you ask me whether this was a blow to the launch, I would say that [Sony] would have done better to be sure that the console would be completely backward compatible before announcing it. But hey, when it becomes clear what the PS3 is capable of, gamers won't really fancy playing PS2 [games] anymore..."
Square Enix had not returned calls to comment as of press time.

The BBC is reporting that everyone who purchased a PS3 at the London launch of the console received a free 46-inch HD television and a taxi ride home.
In total, the giveaway amounted to £250,000 worth of televisons to more than 100 gamers.

Updated to 1.60...yeah. Tried Folding Home, not sure what it is.
Also, I rented MotorStorm. What a waste of a game. Load Times likes this are unacceptable....it was like 2 minutes before you play a race....
I only played a few races, and it was ok. The Buggy seemed SLOW, but the motorcycle did have a sense of speed. Glad I rented first.

But by all means, download our old games for a fee, because that's the power of the PS3...

DJ: I bought MotorStorm, and was regretting it at first... the first 3 levels of tickets aren't terribly difficult. I'm on the Level 4 races now and some of them are TOUGH! It's like a damn demolition derby! It's fun, but frustrating as hell.
The game is really shallow though... just 8 tracks and 6 types of cars (I'm not sure the cars you unlock are actually any faster than the ones you start out with, they just look different). No split screen multiplayer. Online seems like a last minute addon. And a game like this SCREAMS for instant replay, and there isn't one.
Once I get through the single player races, I'll probably trade it for Tiger Woods 07 or something. And buy Oblivion. Mostly bought the PS3 for Blu-ray, but there seem to be some fun games coming out

Folding @ Stanford
From what I've read, the Cell processor is really fast at performing these calculations, and easily outperforms some of the fastest desktop machines out there.

Anyone else here pay the $7.99 to download Flow?
Well, I did and do not regret it at all. I downloaded the trailer first to check it out and was intrigued. I have both the PS3 and the Wii and until yesterday I thought the PS3 sixaxis didn't come close to the motion sensing capabilities of the Wiimote. After downloading and playing Flow, that simply is not true. You play the game by tilting the sixaxis to move your character. It's a very simple game, but addictive. And other players can join the game at anytime. So, I thought it was worth $8, and maybe a little more, but not too much more.

DL'd FlOW, for $8.56 (tax). It's simple and fun to look at, it's like a screen saver, but you get to play with it. Is there a battle mode or something? Can you save the game? I'm haing a little trouble with control, it's responsive, but just not quite getting it (hell, i only played it for five minutes, got distracted and all...)
