I really have trouble taking anything Spong says seriously. I mean, we just read an interview which said the processors aren't even done yet and here they say they could power up the unit? How do you power up a unit with no processors or guts in it?

IGN: With multiplayer being Metroid Prime Hunter's focus, and Nintendo's stance on going online with its Nintendo DS software, what can you tell us about the possibility of this game going online?

Kensuke Tanabe: Unfortunately, the game won't support the multiplayer internet function of the Nintendo DS. To do it, it's not that easy and we'd have to build the infrastructure for it to work properly. The timing of the game release and the building of the infrastructure just didn't match. So while it won't be online, multiplayer will still be very very fun.
What a huge HUGE disappointment.

Yeah, I think this one got started too early for that. I had figured they were holding it back to add that, but it seems that won't happen. However, on the bright side for online wishers it looks like Nintendo is all over their Wi-Fi online now and I would expect most of the first party titles from them to have it in the future. It looks like every Revolution game and most of the future DS games will have online play.

Not an official one, but I'm sure it will be out this November.

Guess I don't need to get Metroid Prime Hunters now.

I don't know ANYONE with a DS, so I wouldn't be able to play multiplayer at all.

Yeah the controller won't be touch scren. vd0man is right, you can't push two buttons at the same time unless they have some sort of revolution (hint?) in touch screens. you need to press multiple buttons in tons of platformers, like running and jumping at the same time, and i'm pretty sure Nintendo has thought about that, as they make some of the best. It's an interesting idea though

It is possible to play almost any game using the standard button layout, having a,b,x,y with l, and r shoulder buttons (nintendo was the first to do that layout if i recall, which was then copied by sony and microsoft). Maybe they have a controller you can physically move buttons around, like those sliding panel puzzles? I don't know, if anyone can make a controller like that work, it's them.

And as our friends in Kyoto say, Touching is Good.... They are there because this machine has a new controller. It's not a gamepad. It is, according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, "A Revolution".

It'd be pretty cool if they come out with adaptors to hook up your old nes, snes, and n64 controllers to the Revolution.

Little bit of an update on Gamespot.

Fortunately, it looks like Nintendo fans won't have to wait until next year to learn more about the machine. Speaking with Reuters, Iwata said that details regarding the Revolution--including price, launch date, and its mystery controller--would be revealed by the end of the current year.

One of the surprising announcements made about the Revolution during E3 was its ability to download and play games from Nintendo consoles as far back as the NES. More surprising was that Iwata revealed to Reuters that Nintendo is in talks with third-party game publishers about including their portfolios in the Revolution's downloadable game library as well.

Iwata added that the pricing method for these downloads hasn't been decided, though there are two possibilities: to charge users per game as they download them or to sell prepaid cards in stores. He also said that Nintendo might give some games away as part of promotions.

Am I the only one who thinks playing all the old nintendo games is stupid? It's a cool feature but come one who will actually play the games. I want to see new games not them working on getting the old games to work on the system. I just don't see the point.

It's kinda cool for anyone who doesn't want to mess around with emulators.

I mean I would rather have them work on getting support for the console that's been the biggest problem with the last two consoles.

I think this console could be the last hurrah.

To be honest, I think Microsoft's more in danger of pulling out of the console hardware business after this generation. If they do as well next generation as they did with the XBOX compared to Sony's PS2, I can't see the upper management, investors, etc. continuing to throw money at it.

Nintendo looks like it will be around for a while, since they seem to make a profit no matter what "place" they are in.

There's really no basis to predict the future of these companies before the consoles even come out.

As someone who grew up on Nintendo it's just disappointing to see what they've become.

What's that? A game centered company?

What have they become? I would say they're the most old-school company, aside from gamer-friendly innovations. It sounds to me like you think they haven't changed enough.

I still play my SNES a ton. 3D games don't hold a candle to 2D games for me.

I love the idea as it's long since I've had an NES, and a lot of SNES games I pick up or held onto have dead batteries.

It will be nice to just pay, download and play.

I spent half of Saturday playing The Guardian Legend on my NES. It was excellent.

They have stayed true to their gaming roots which is probably what has hurt them the most. E3 was 90% violent games. Nintendo is totally outside the mainstream for gaming now and I hope they stay there. Sony and Microsoft have the FPS and Sports games covered. Nintendo needs to keep making their style of games and keep pushing on being different from the competition to keep gaming from being completely stale.

As far as the downloads. I can't wait to have a huge SNES library at my fingertips on a console made to play them. Emulators are okay, but I have always run into problems getting certain games to emulate correctly not to mention N64 games are probably too complicated for PC hardware to emulate properly.

It'd be nice if Nintendo allowed the shoulder buttons to be mapped as rewind and fast forward buttons like the emulators can do. It makes those old RPGs a little easier to handle

There whole focus has shifted to handheld games. I know this is their most profitable market but gameboy micro. Come on, how many of these are they gonna make? A good company knows how to shift with the times. Nintendo has not done this. I'm not saying that should all of sudden switch all of their games to more violent themes but they could at least allow developers to explore the possibilities. With their innovation, they could easily make some really encapsulating 'violent' games, but they choose not to.

I think third party developers will be hard to come by on the revolution console. The one thing that could help them is the use of the DVD drive, but I still think that they will be likely to shy away from the new console because most of them probably feel that PS3 and Xbox360 will be more influential in the next cycle. Even now the third party support is pretty bleak and has been for quite sometime. For me, I hope that Nintendo makes a comeback and kicks sand in both Sony and Microsoft's face.

Perhaps Nintendo should build in more features like Sony is planning?

To be fair they tried. Eternal Darkness was excellent and they also set up the deal to get Resident Evil 4 exclusive for a year.

The problem is Mature titles don't sell well in general for the Cube. Nintendo has defintely tried to change their image with marketing, but they are stuck with the curse of popular Mario and Zelda titles. I think if they tried a drastic change towards Mature titles they would fail anyway, so I'm not sure what else Nintendo could do. They have the kiddie image and its not going to go away simply by giving Mario a gun the way Sega is trying with one of their hedgehog titles.
