That is a good question. Who would be able to rerelease it? Rare or Nintendo. It's kind of like Disney Pixar. But then again the liscense belongs to EA now so maybe no one.

Interview on IGN with Shigeru Miyamoto
Most of the questions, of course, are about the Revolution. No new details, but there is a lot of suggestion that the controller is the key to the system. He mentioned how the dev kits for Revolution aren't out yet, but should be very similar to GameCube dev kits. That the system will incorporate new technologies, but not in the same way as Sony and Microsoft have incorporated them (ie, system power).
The chips are not finished yet, but the controller definitely is. Should be exciting next E3. And they had a pic of the black Revolution in horizontal position - looks real good.

IGNcube: Will you make Kid Icarus for Revolution?
Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, I'm actually working really closely right now with the director of the [original] game. Now, whether or not when we get the Revolution all set up and everything is finalized, well who knows? That might be one of those characters where everybody says, "Hey, with the way our console is designed, that would be a perfect match." My question to you is, if we made this game would you buy it?
IGNcube: Absolutely.
Shigeru Miyamoto: Well, we obviously can't ignore that. Okay, we'll get the Eggplant Wizard coming back.

All this talk about Revolution and no mention of a new Mario? I thought there would be a new Mario this generation other than Sunshine. What happened to Mario 128?
BTW- a new Icarus would be awesome!
Edit:
Oops, just found this!
IGNcube: Can you give us an update on Mario 128?
Shigeru Miyamoto: [Chuckles] I'm just really sorry. I think I've given people the wrong impression with Mario 128. With all the questions I'm getting about this, I really feel like I've done people a disservice. In regards to Mario 128, we're currently doing a lot of Mario experiments back in Kyoto. We are definitely going to have a new Mario for Revolution. Whether or not that's 128 or not, I can't really say. It might be a new Sunshine. We're not sure. We're doing a lot of Mario tests right now for the Revolution.

We can safely say Fall 06 on both. I dont care how much they claim otherwise.I only seen two console system launch in first half of a year in history of gaming and both ended up megaflops. I also seen spring launch babble a dozen times to know just ploy to get gamers to wait so you can announce another 6 month wait when deadline is up. Rofl I think I fell for that about 4 times just on "ultra 64" launch and even with huge delay it had what, two titles?.
I say Sept is earliest you would see massive hardware launch and even that I say would be pushing it if not for fact that rushing a launch somehow became exceptable practice in gaming, you dont even need one solid AAA anymore it seems.

Reggie was just on G4 and the guy pushed him a bit about the controller. In response Reggie said (as close as I can remember) "This console is going to allow you to play games on NES, SNES, N64 and GameCube. Those systems have four very different controllers. Now what kind of controller could allow you to play all those different types of games?"
This has touch screen controller written all over it. I wonder if this will be an LCD screen controller than will change the button layout for every game you play depending on the needs of the game.
Anyone know if Nintendo filed any patents for something like this?
I don't know if this is exactly a revolution, but the ability to move the buttons around to the exact position you want them could be a very nice and useful feature. How the hell this would work though is still a bit beyond me. Guessing that this is even in the ballpark.

So, I'm not sure what he's saying.
I could see some kind of touch screen thing though, given the DS. Will be interesting to see what they come up with.

First off, there will be no tactile response...you won't be able to feel the buttons. The whole point of the weird button layout on the Gamecube controller was that all the buttons were differently shaped and sized so you can FEEL the differences and not have to look down at the controller all the time to make sure your fingers are lined up to the right buttons. If they go with a touchscreen you'll be looking away from your game all the time to make sure you're pressing the right part of the screen. That sucks.
Secondly, unless they've come up with some completely new touchscreen technology, there's no way you can press on two parts of the screen at the same time. Go ahead, try it on your DS. It doesn't work. How the hell are you going to run and jump in Super Mario Bros. if you can't press A and B at the same time?
There's a NES emulator for PocketPCs that actually has a touchscreen controller because the early models of PocketPC didn't allow you to press a button and move the cross-pad at the same time, so the touchscreen controller was a kind of work-around by the programmer. Yes, I've actually played NES games on a touch screen controller. It's sketchy at best. Believe me, it's not the way you want to play video games.

If its a touch screen controller, and thats a big if, I'm sure Nintendo has looked at the negatives to this approach. Granted I can't fathom how they will pull it off. Maybe standard buttons combined with touch screen?

Dear Nintendo,
I love you, but I hate you.
Argh! What is it?!? WHAT IS THE REVOLUTION?!?!?? What's behind the flap?!? I HAVE TO KNOW!
I love you, but I hate you.
SPOnG today had one-on-one access to the Nintendo Revolution. And as our friends in Kyoto say, Touching is Good. We sat in a room with six hardware units which we were able to pick up, pass around and generally explore. The console has a few surprises that were not evident in the shots posted on the day the machine debuted. There are two flaps on the top, one which surprisingly houses four wired GameCube controller ports. As you will know, the Rev is fully compatible with GameCube hardware, so it's fully understandable these ports are included, though the significance of their inclusion must not be overlooked. They are there because this machine has a new controller. It's not a gamepad. It is, according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, "A Revolution".
Another flap shows twin solid state storage drives, another flap, the important and ominous-looking one on the front, would not open."There's a clue there," we were told by senior Nintendo staff today as we pawed the hardware, which we could power on and off and fully examine. "That's the Revolution, right there." The collective SPOnG mind boggled.

I really hope they are just hyping all of us and then reveal it at the end of the conference. I really hope it won't just fizzle and either not be revealed until next year or be some kind of a dude.

What about the other Rare games, wont the stumbling block be the Microsoft/Rare thing? (Perfect Dark, all the DKC games, Diddy Kong Racing et al). Didnt Rare just make those games back in the day for Nintendo?
