Re: Game of Thrones -- "Garden of Bones" -- 4/22/12

With respect to the episode threads I thought they were to include spoiler tags for items that pertained to events yet to come and this thread was free for open discussion. Even though I am halfway through A Clash of Kings I dare not enter the spoilers thread for fear of reading about future events in the second book or further into A Song of Fire and Ice.

Re: Game of Thrones -- "Garden of Bones" -- 4/22/12

I think we need three threads per episode:

* One for non-readers
* One for people who have read the second book
* One for people who have read all the books

Each of these should be actively moderated 24/7 and properly unspoilerized posts should be removed before somebody has a change to see them.

Question... At this point, is Arya supposed to know that Tywin is a Lannister (if not THE Lannister)?

I think it's safe to assume that Arya knows exactly who Tywin is.

^ Yeah but as a book reader that's not your damn problem.

The spoiler free thread on other forums work just fine, so why not here?

Agree, I really hate him in this show, but that just mean he did an amazing job as an actor.

I don't think this is a spoiler but ....

In the book, does GRRM describe what the outcome of the rat-in-bucket torture is? A rat hole through the human? Does the rat ever get out? Do they continue the torture until the rat gets out?

I know, morbid curiosity.

The trick is you heat up the bucket so the rat will do whatever they can go get out, which means eating their way through the body. My assumption is that the person would die from bleeding/organ damage before the rat came out the other side.

The rat splits the spoils of whatever the torturer gets.

Spoiler:
The rat torture method isn't from the book.

Just wondering whether the book described the end result. And my question was answered above in the Spoiler tag. I have to admit, that's pretty disappointing.

I don't remember if it's from the book or not but I've definitely either seen it in a movie or read about it in a book. I knew exactly what was going on when it started. Been about 10 years since I read books 1-3.

There's a similar rat torture in the American Psycho novel.

It's shitty to have a thread that's half-filled with spoilers or spoiler tags, or people complaining (hey! me included).

The episode threads go to 5+ pages each time, and other shows have 8-response threads. The forum will survive with both.
What needs to happen is a TV forum moderator needs to come in and lay down the ground rules.

Look at the TWOP forums, their mods make exactly clear what is and what is not allowed. They also have different threads based on different angles.

I agree with this, make a TV show thread for everything including ADWD for the entire season. I think a thread for the entire season would be good enough for the all books read spoiler crew.

Also non-readers should not ask questions in the non-reader threads that pertain to future episodes/future books. Maybe we can have a list of folks that would kindly answer questions via PM? in regards to this.

Won't do any good. I almost never go into the spoilers threads. I don't care what other book readers have to say. I've discussed things with them for years.

Yeah but what about discussing what is happening on screen/and information in regards to the books?

First they are on horseback, then on a boat, then in a place with bars. No kidding the Red Woman needed an escort. Where are they? Am I supposed to know that too?
Just catching up after watching this weeks episode, but I can say I knew those answers and have never read the books. I just pay really close attention to as many details as I can when I watch the show. This show cannot be watched leisurely with an expectation to get it all.
Normally I watch it alone, in a quiet part of the house so I won't be interrupted even, waiting to watch a new episode until I can really focus on it.

Sorry to all if this was addressed in follow-up posts. I didn't read the newer posts and replied to this one right away.

Sorry, not into it THAT much. And if I can't come in and ask some questions without being accused of being a Two and Half Men viewer, then fuck it.
