Re: The Walking Dead -- "Chupacabra" -- 11/13/11
I like the show and will continue to watch it. The only thing that bothers me is the inconsistencies with how to deal with blood contact with the zombies. When they wore the meat suits in the first season, they were told not to come into contact with the blood/guts under any circumstances. Now they beat and stab them in the face, walk around in blood-drenched clothes, etc. I know they don't want to make any noise killing them. Take a clue from Daryl and get some crossbows... duh.. they are in the south, it wouldn't be that hard to find them.. hunting cabins, guns shops, etc. quiet, no-contact kills....

I don't think people should expect a resolution regarding the missing girl until the finale. It's definitely clear by now that season 2 should be subtitled "THE SEARCH FOR THE MISSING DUMBASS CHILD." That's essentially the arc of the season.

I can't believe how tired this show already feels. Someone really needs to work over the dialogue. Typical exchange:
"where are the guns?"
"you know where i put the guns. I put 'em where you can't find 'em, because I can't trust you with 'em. It's not because you're a woman, it's not because you're young, it's because I have a responsibility to fulfill here and by giving you a gun, i'm taking that responsibility and putting it on you, and I can't live with that."
"...okay. So where's the food, then?"
"You know where the food is..."
Typical exchanges like this happen in every single scene. Someone asks a simple question, and then gets the most obfuscated answer that leads to 10 minutes of pointless dialogue.
And you know, despite all this, i'm surprised they haven't spent more time talking about WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON AROUND THEM AND WHERE THE FUCK THESE THINGS CAME FROM.

I enjoyed the Daryl stuff this week, as other posters have obviously mentioned.

Could Daryl have looked anymore like zombie when he came out of woods? Andrea taking that shot with 3 friendlies in the line of sight was one of the most irresponsible things I've ever seen. I hate how poorly this show sets up the pay offs. And instead of grazing Daryl it would have been great to get rid of T- Dog. It's kind of insulting he has no real name. What the hell were the writers thinking with that?

My guess is at this point they've been sprayed by enough zombie juice that they realize exposure with their skin doesn't hurt them.

I keep hoping Daryl starts calling him CoCo.
And I agree that Andrea should have been punched, not for trying to kill a walker, but doing so only when 3 of her group were in direct contact with the walker. Hopefully Shane who seems to be the combat instructor now uses it to teach the others not to be suck a dumbass.

So a starving zombie sees a passed out/dead person laying there all for himself and he begins by starting to eat through his shoe? Gee, lucky for Daryl.
How can they make Andrea that stupid? For reasons already mentioned, it's ridiculous. And Dale comforts her by saying "Don't be too hard on yourself... we all wanted to shoot Daryl" ? WTF? Bitch-slap some sense into her instead of coddling her. And Daryl seems to be the only character with any sense in the show.
Can we go an episode without someone getting a major wound? T-Dog cuts his arm up deep, Carl gets shot and now Daryl gets an arrow through him and gets grazed with a bullet.
I don't think Sophia is lost... she couldn't handle the writing and just took off.

I'm enjoying the show and thought this was one of the better episodes. I do still agree the dialogue needs work though. Too much focus on whatever petty conflict is the basis of an episode and not enough focus on an overarching narrative. I want more conversation about the outbreak, what happened, and what the survivors are planning to do to get out of all this alive.

They weren't told not to come in contact with the blood and guts under any circumstances, that was just a part of the initial fear. I used the "AIDS from a toilet seat" comparison in an earlier thread.

What's the issue with the crossbow arrows anyways? I know people were wondering how Daryl can have a constant supply - but we know that he's re-using them. We've seen him pull them out of the zombies numerous times (but not every time). So I'm not seeing any problems with that... is there a different issue with it I'm not aware of?

MOD NOTE:
There seems to be a lot of anger in this thread directed at other posters. Just a reminder, you can disagree with others on their opinions, but do not attack other posters just because they might disagree with you.
Talk about the show, not each other. I don't want to end up locking this thread, so please keep comments focused on the show, please.

Poor Andrea. I agree that her actions were stupid, but I get what she was doing. She just desperately wants to prove herself to the others and feels she hasn't had the opportunity. Here was a chance where she could prove she could be useful. Unfortunately, that didn't go so hot for her.

I also don't have a problem with how they are handling the threat of infection. I'm sure they are getting more relaxed, as others have said, because they have had more exposure and realize they haven't turned yet.

I'd say I've mostly enjoyed this season so far. You know why? Beause I don't think about it that fucking much.
I will say that the budget cuts appear rather obvious when so far we've spent the entire season on a farm. Shane is right, time to move on.
This episode proved that Daryl is unarguably the most badass dude around.

Didn't think it was a terrible episode. The acting leaves a bit to be desired but it entertained me for the most part. I'd love to see Merle come back into the fold.
