Re: Top Chef All Stars

I sat down to watch it last night at 10pm, assuming it had recorded earlier, and was sorely dissapointed!

I came into this thread nervous, thinking that maybe I had missed an episode and it would get spoiled by reading this thread. Nope!

I'm already trying to make peace that Carla won't win, but she has such a great personality that I'm sure she could carry her own series like Tabitha from Sheer Genius (who had such a strong personality that she became the fan favorite).

There's a new episode tonight.

Synopsis:
Spoiler:
Dim Sum Lose Sum

In a series first, head judge Tom Colicchio enters the competition, challenging the chefs to beat his time in creating a dish. Then, the meal masters head to Chinatown to serve up dim sum for locals.

Sucks that sexy Casey gets sent home, but nasty chicken feet will do that. Not sure what she was thinking there. Actually none of the dim sum dishes looked very good to me.

Jamie is on borrowed time.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

agreed about Jamie, I liked her on her season, but she blows on this one.

But once the judges said Casey's was inedible, I knew she was gone. Inedible is one thing they don't do

Is it me, or do the chefs not look all that into it this time around? It seems like they aren't trying as hard as last time.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

The Chef Tom quickfire seemed a little unfair to me. Obviously he had time to decide what ingredients he was going to use, where to find the equipment... basically make a step-by-step plan in his head. The chefs had to do everything on the fly.

True. But they had the 8 minutes or so that he was working to be thinking of their own plan. It's not like they suddenly had to figure it out when told "go".

I'm sure he did pick his dish out and had it everything he need in place. Iron Chef is like that (they know what the SI is 15 mins before start of taping). The idea is to come up with someone on the fly as fast as you can. Every Chef at their level knows what they have in their Kitchens. Give me that time to make something. I am going to pick fish if I have it to cook, also.

watch Casey's exit interview on Bravo and you'll get a sense of that, and why.

Just read Tom's blog, and he said exactly that.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

Sorry to see Casey go but it was pretty obvious.

She looked better with her hair back and no lipstick.

I think I'm becoming a Richard fan.

Blais was hardly in this episode. I actually think the whole dim sum kitchen took a lot away from the show this week, you couldn't really tell what was going on.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

Why didn't Casey show anyone how to cook the chicken feet? If someone were cooking my dish for me, I'd be sure as hell to show them how to do it first rather than assuming they knew! Especially something as crazy as chicken feet. That was bad judgment on her part. Jaime sucks, but Casey did worse this time.

At that level you should not have to show anyone how to cook anything. Also at that level just watching them cook it once you would then know how to cook it.

It was over with for her just by the way she cut them. I have never cooked them (nor do I wish to) I have seen them cut and cooked. You have any idea how long it takes to take off the nails off of them one at a time.

It wouldn't matter. Casey did not know how to cook the chicken feet herself. Didn't one of the judges say that she should have deep fried them? Casey went down to the basement and somebody was deep frying her chicken feet and then Casey told them to cook them in the Wok instead.

In these types of shows, if you let someone else do your work, you're just cutting your own throat.

So is Antonia. I was appalled to see that she made it to the finals during her season. She only got by when a more talented chef just made a bigger mistake than her. It was no coincidence that in the finals she was unanimously eliminated.

This week's challenge just cemented that again - whenever she's on a team challenge, she sorta steps back and let her teammates take all the big risks, and she just plays it safe and hopes she can cut it.

I'm a big Dale T. fan this season. His attitude has really been toned down, and he's grown up a lot. He's also a much better team player. I also love his competitive nature, and he has the talent to back it up. Unlike spike. Spike loved the challenges, but his food sucked.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

Sad to see Casey go, oh well, chicken feet will do that to you....

Two weeks in a row for Jamie to survive....

Not sure why these folks are not in it to win it, there is a lot of coin to be made in these quickfire challenges for the next 8 weeks....
