Re: Top Chef All Stars

I figured they wouldn't send Tiffani home because they've already sent two female contestants packing and I'll bet they don't want things to get too lopsided by gender this early. And Fabio makes for good television, so I guessed that he would be safe as well.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

FYI, Richard Blais has his own show on the Science Channel called Blais Off. It sounds like his version of Bobby Flay's Throwdown. The first two episodes are on tonight at 10-

Re: Top Chef All Stars

Caught up with all three episodes.

Jen I thought she had a chance to go far but she was a little bit psycho.

I don't know a lot of the characters because I started watching late in the Hosea-Carla season. Casey is pretty hot though.

Bump new episode tonight:

"Advantage Chef"

Spoiler:
The chefs prepare a holiday stuffing dish without the benefit of any kitchen tools or knives. Later, they hold court by catering a bash for the U.S. Open tennis tournament.

Spoiler:
I liked Spike on his season, but he really wasn't doing much for me this year. Besides, it was well known he was outclassed by the others.

I liked Blais commenting on how Jaime has an interesting story going on. True that. Avoided 2 near certain eliminations do tot her screwing over her team. She'll be gone soon.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

So Jamie didn't even have to put up a dish in the Elimination Challenge? That seems stupid.

I liked the Quickfire Challenge, though. They made some pretty tasty looking stuffing with the limitations. (I hope they cleaned up some of the raw meat off the equipment afterwards, though).

I hope they cleaned the equipment before they pounded meat and grated cheese with it.

Yeah, Spike was outclassed. And Jamie is skating by, that's for sure. But she is a good chef, I don't get it, she was one of the strongest during her season.

So, is Angelo really trying to sabotage people or is he just a bit of a kitchen bully? I vote kitchen bully; someone is going home each week and so long as you know it's not you (as he knew this week since he won his match), why sabotage anyone?

Re: Top Chef All Stars

I think Angelo is just such an egomaniac and a busybody that he can't help himself from trying to tweak or 'enhance' other chefs' dishes when they give him the chance. I don't think he is purposely sabotaging them--but he definitely tries to influence the other chefs to execute their dishes in the way that he thinks they should. And he's often wrong. By now, the other chefs should know not to let him interfere with their plans--anyone who does is playing with fire.

If it was called Top Scallops she might have won.

I agree. He's clearly a talented chef, probably better than most of them if not all. But that is when he's executing his vision. He's not better than any of them when he's trying to impose his vision on something already well-conceived by them.

He's one of my least favorites out there, though I would certainly love to eat his food.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

Talk about a bit of a screwing. If you're not a team player, you're labeled selfish, try to go along with the team and your blamed for letting other people mess with your food. No win. To be fair, they should have all faced off with the results revealed after everyone took their shot. That way a chef that had a bad dish doesn't get to sneak off. And, to be fair, that's not to say Jamie did or didn't have a bad dish but we'll never know since it didn't get tasted and judged.

I think it comes down to Angelo, Marcel or Richard for the Title. Can't see anyone outside of those 3 winning

I tend to agree but sometimes the producers/judges obviously try to surprise the audience and elimate someone good when they make a minor misstep for the shock value. (read those end credits where they explain the judging process) I always hate that.

I think it would be more interesting if a chef pockets an extra life so to speak for each time they win the main weekly competition and not the stupid quickfire. That way someone strong truly earns some credit for their excellent work and doesn't get screwed the one time they slip up as they eventually do.

I can see Carla making it to the final 3 again. She very rarely makes something bad enough to go to Judges' Table, and I think she's a better chef than people think she is.

I agree it was tough to get sent to the Table when you could have lost because you were up against a tough dish--though theoretically you wouldn't be eliminated if you still made a good dish. (Of course you can often go to Table if you cook well but happen to be on a losing team.) Jamie dodging it altogether was the real problem.

Jacques Pepin praised her dish in Season 4 and that's about as good as it gets.

It was a poorly-designed challenge. This is what, the eighth season of the show? I couldn't believe they designed this challenge so that the judges wouldn't taste everyone's food.

Angelo and Richard are definitely the class of this competition. Not sure that Marcel is that much better than anyone else, though he clearly is better than he was his first time around.

That said, Stefan was clearly the best of his season and still didn't win.

After following this show from the first season, and reading the blogs regularly, I do not believe they eliminate people for "shock value". But I doubt I could convince you of that.

I've been watching it from the first season too. It's a TV show like any other and the producers are going to do what they need to do for ratings. I'm pretty sure there's some verbage in the end credits that says they can do whatever they want with the outcome. I'm a fan of the show and I'm not knocking it.

Re: Top Chef All Stars

One things for sure. Every single contestant in this series has 100 times more culinary talent than all of the Hells kitchen winners combined

Fact is , whilst there is a lot of money up for grabs, there are no losers. Just about every contestant has their own restaurant and appearing on this series will give them and their restaurant more exposure which just means more business

Did anyone see Richards new tv show on science channel, Blais Off ?
