Basically, Law & Order without the Law.

Every week will feature the kind of ripped-from-the-headlines stories that that franchise has become know for, beginning with a criminal arraignment and continuing through the trial. The show will provide fictional access to prosecutors, defenders, judicial chambers, the jury room and every other nook and cranny of the process.

So, one trial a week? I misread thinking it would be one trial over many episodes.

I think you mean without the Order. That sounds like it is 100% Law.

The 'Law' in Law & Order refers to the "Police who investigates crimes." Haven't you ever watched the opening credits.

well ... Jerry Orbach did guest-star as a defense lawyer in a very early episode of L&O so anything is possible

I would hate to see Munch move, as I love the dynamic between him and ICE-T. It really sucks that Orbach is leaving, he has been my favorite of L&O. Chris Noth is my second favorite and I would not mind seeing him come back, he and Green might be interesting to watch.

That's actually an interesting idea. Bring Logan back from 'Exile' and have him serve as Green's underling (as part of working his way back up). That would be an interesting dynamic. I wonder if Dick Wolf would approach him.

Anybody know much those actors make compared to the overpaid freinds cast and Frasier 1 miilion per episode??

I always got the impressions NBC is really cheap when it came to salaries for this never ending show

I agree Jerry's wise ass Lenny Briscoe is the best detective on ths show since Mike Logan

I'll always remeber that two parter he did with the comedian who killed his first then got remarried and killed again (?). That was one of my all time favourites

"In New York City.....These are their stories" (cue that bang bang sound) speaking of which what instrument is thatt??

Cheers!

It has gone so downhill in the last 3 seasons (2 reasons: Elizabeth Rohm and subpar writing).
I'd say 3: those two and Fred Thompson's blowhard act and endless pontificating.

Nobody is going to beat Steven Hill's Adam Schiff. However, Fred Thompson is far better than Dianne Wiest.

Agreed. At least Fred Thompson can act like he knows what he's doing. Diane Wiest looked like a drunk that stumbled onto the wrong set.

hmm. Is Noth doing anything now? I know he was on sex and the city sometimes (all the time?) and that's over now isn't it? I don't get hbo. Was Exile the name of that L&O movie he did or was that word chosen for other reasons? Either way, the fact that he has come back indicates his original leaving must not have been on bad terms

I totally agree - Chris Noth has long been a favorite of mine, so would be thrilled if he came back, especially since his stint as Mr. Big is over. I am heartbroken over Orbach leaving! What a sad day for a show I've been watching for fourteen years. (ok, so I can't believe I've watched every episode, and I can't believe it's been fourteen years).

As for Munch - he's funniest when bantering with Briscoe, so that's a no-go for me. The spin off shows are crap, imo, and I hate the acting with a passion. With the exception of Rohm and Wiest, the acting by the principal cast and almost all guest stars on the original L&O has been stellar, unlike all spin-offs. The only actor I like at all from the spin-offs is Munch, and like I said, he's better when acting with Briscoe, which is not an option (unless he were to move to the new spin-off).

I can't believe I'll actually start watching another L&O spin-off after I swore them all off as being horrid, but with Orbach, I must give it a chance.

Oh how I wish they'd get rid of Rohm and leave Lennie where he is! He's been my favorite part of the show since he joined the cast.

Oh, and personally even though the order of the words is "law" then "order" and they describe "the police who investigate the crimes" and then "the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders", I think law is describing the courtroom and order the keeping of the order (i.e. police work). Although both words apply to both tasks, so it could be as most of you think just as easily.

Noth did a movie (Bad Apple) that I believe he produced and starred in, might have directed as well. That is supposed to be the first of a series of films, all based on a series of books by one writer. While praised by the critics, I hated the film, even though I love Noth and historically can watch anything he's done. Consequently, I could be wrong about some of the details, but I believe that's the situation. This probably means he's too busy to do L&O on a weekly basis, but oh how much better I could take Briscoe leaving if Logan came back. Plus since I hated the film I feel his talent is wasted there.

And yes, the name of the L&O movie where Noth came back was Exile if memory serves.

He's going to do more of those? Jeez...

I'm with you, that was awful. I tuned in because of the great cast and intriging commercials. And turned it off after 40 minutes. Bleh.

Schiff was the King.

Thompson and Weist both suck, in totally different ways. He's actually put me off of the show after ten years.

I haven't watched L&O for a while, but I do like the fact that Thompson frequently talks down to Rohm.

Law & Order used to be a respectible show, but the spinoffs have just made it something to be ridiculed now.

Its the sound of a jail door closing with some electronic enhancement.

Did anyone catch Lenny's comment a few weeks back about law school? Him and Greene were talking to someone about school and Lenny happened to know tuition prices, then off handely (sp?) states that he checked into a while ago. Could this be some clever foreshadowing of the new show?

Deja Vu...reminds me when Andre Braugher decided to leave "Homicide". I love L&O, but it will suffer greatly without Jerry Orbach (just as H:LOTS did without Braugher). What's not to love about Det. Lennie Briscoe...Orbach is amazing.

I wouldn't mind Chris Noth coming back, but maybe Andre Braugher might consider reprising his role of Det. Frank Pembleton for L&O. Maybe they could get Kyle Secor as his old partner, Det. Tim Bayliss. And then, we would once again be treated to the magnificence that is "Frank-N-Tim-In-The-Box". Sorry, but H:LOTS was my all-time favorite TV show...ever.

Also, wanted to add that I love Munch too, and would love to see him moved over from SVU to L&O. He doesn't get enough air time on SVU, and I think this is a possible solution that Dick Wolf will seriously consider.

Braugher would be great to see on L&O. Unfortunately (at least for the L&O wish), he will be starring in a drama that F/X is developing called Thief.
