Re: DC Universe streaming service

I'd be surprised if the DCU service lasted another year. I think we'll see the video content folded into HBO Max. Or maybe they'll revamp VRV and bundle it with Boomerang and Crunchyroll. And the digital comics will probably be a separate subscription service.

I'm hoping that those of us still subscribed when that happens will get some kinda deal.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

I sort of thought that I’d get an email trying to rope me in with a deal after I cancelled. Maybe it’s not close enough to when my subscription ends. I got charged lay on the 21st so I have a while before they’d charge me again. At $60 for the entire year I’d maybe consider it.

I'd guess existing subscribers get some sort of deal with HBO MAX. I'm not sure what DC plans to do with it long term. Possibly retool it for comic book readers or let it get bundled with other services as mentioned.

I know you guys all have me on ignore because I just complain about the service, but I'll say it one more time:

It is 59.99 a year for everyone (in the US). It is also only 5.99 a month right now. You don't need to be emailed a special deal, it's right there on the "join" page, and at least for me it was on the renewal page too.

https://www.dcuniverse.com/join/

I want to say the deal ends early in January but I don't remember exactly when.

I don’t know why no one has pointed it out, but it’s $59.99 a month for everyone.

Well, I'm officially not a subscriber anymore, but I still have access to all the app news stories and the app newsgroups...just not the content. Weird.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

I got in on the free year promotion through WB A-List and I'm trying to cancel, but it just spins. It also says I don't have a primary payment method. I also thought on the App it originally said under type of subscription "Promo", now it says Premium. I don't see how they can charge me since I don't have a cc listed.

Anyone else get the promo and try to cancel?

Re: DC Universe streaming service

I also had the free year promo. I contacted DCU customer support last month asking about when my subscription was going to renew and how I will be charged. This was their response.

Hi there,

Because you signed up with a promo code there is nothing to cancel on your end, nor will anything auto renew

When your paid time expires on 1/26/2020 - you can setup a new subscription if you would like to continue using the service.

Sincerely,
Since I never entered any payment info, I'm not worried. They can't charge me for it.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

I'm going to Wondercon here in Anaheim in April and DC Universe has had a booth at the last few major cons including this one. I might restart it for a month to catch up on a few things (ex. Harley Quinn) and if you go to the Con and show you're a member you will get a big DC Universe swag and merchandise bag. So we'll see.

Bumping the thread in case anyone else was doing what I'm thinking of doing.

I was only interested in the Harley Quinn series. Now that S1 is done, was going to join for the free 7-day trial just to watch it.

That's pretty quick. I might have to pony up for a month after S2 is done.

I think they did 26 eps. So 2 13 ep story arcs?

Re: DC Universe streaming service

A couple of movie pundits who I follow John Campea and Robert Meyer Burnett think DC Universe is dead.

With HBO Max coming in about 4 weeks and with them carrying DC content as well, they think there's no point to it anymore and it should be merged to make HBO Max better.

There was a handful in this thread who called it dead last October.
Writing was on the wall then.

BTw. Season 2 of HQ hadn’t been thst great. At least not first three shows I watched before my sub expired.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

It would be easy to kill if not for the digital comics side of it. I still think it’ll stick around but be rebranded as that. From what I’ve seen in Comics Talk CV-19 has killed off most printed comics for now, so digital might be the only revenue they’re gonna get for a while.

Swamp Thing's been licensed to CW (not a revival, just the broadcast rights to the only season):

Considering this was TV-MA I wonder if it will be streaming only or broadcast. If it is broadcast I suspect it will be edited for content.
