Re: DC Universe streaming service

Like I've said before, the writing is on the wall and AT&T is poised on consolidating. The streaming content from DC Universe will most likely go to HBO Max and what isn't picked up by them will surely be licensed to either Netflix or Hulu. What I will miss is the comic book content as it's pretty good.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

What's dumb is that the higher profile HBO Max doesn't have Roku/Amazon device support (because of licensing) or 4k support (because of who knows why) so it's basically an inferior service for the content that is on both.

On a side note I did notice this past weekend that they solicited a Blu ray of the Legion of Superheroes cartoon that's on DC Universe, so that's cool.

Even so, HBO MAX 1080p is superior quality to both DCUniverse 1080p and 4K.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

Grace Randolph talked about DC Universe a little in her live stream today. She thinks it’s done after 2020. Mainly because they are offering that $5 HBO Max add on deal.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

For us we have the $60/yr subscription so $5/mo. Adding HBO Max for $4.99/mo brought our total to $9.99/mo. If HBO Max keeps all the video content from DC Universe along with the comics, that would be great. Still not sure what we'd be willing to pay for the combined service.

If not, we will miss the comics from DC Universe and the ability to actually stream the video content on our TV.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

Just keep it as a comics service, drop the price, and allow a discounted add on price (not a bundle price because so many people already get Max from other sources). I don't know why they don't already do this (an add on price) with DC Universe and Crunchyroll.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

Yeah DCU actually has me reading comics again so Id be cool with it being just a comic service. I never thought Id like digital comic reading but it's been cool.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

It's my understanding that is the plan - keeping DCU around as a comics subscription service after HBO Max absorbs most everything else. The Stargirl thing isn't a surprise because that has been the plan for a long, long time. They just didn't want to publicize it from the beginning because the CW doesn't have the best brand favorability with some demographics.

We have the annual package with about 6 months left and was given that offer already. I wonder if they held it back for some subscriptions till they were at 6 months left.

Any way to get this to work if I'm already a subscriber for both?

I just want them to drop the price and give me a discount since I already have Max. And they have to drop the price, I don't care what Marvel Comics Unlimited is priced at you can't completely nerf the service and expect people to pay the same price.

Keep in mind that we can login to HBO Now via Roku, etc and still have access to the HBO content minus the MAX exclusives.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

Still dying a slow death. They just removed the annual option to subscribe:

https://community.dcuniverse.com/t/o...ght/55538/7298
As we’ve explained before, the annual deal offered a secondary tier which was designed to be a loyal membership benefit. Because we cannot currently provide those planned benefits (automatic entry into sweepstakes for trips and conventions, access to special off-site events, and some other swag-based perks) we have removed this loyalty option in order to align with other subscription services on the market. Given the ongoing challenges with COVID and the recent reinforcement of quarantine in the key operating areas of DC Universe, it was prudent to simplify our payment options. I do apologize that you will be paying slightly more per month, but please reach out to the moderation team if this presents an acute challenge and we will work together on it to make sure you can stay subscribed.

For those who signed up for an annual subscription before this went into effect, those accounts will still be good through the year you paid for (AKA, if you signed up for annual sub on June 30th 2020, you are good through June 30th 2021).
Yeah, people really signed up for the annual plan because of all the goodies (that I never used, although I was tempted by the BOP ticket) and not the price break. "Prudent to simplify our payment options." Probably prudent to roll everything into one streaming service while you're at it...

Yeah I added HBO NOW to my Roku and it seemed to just let me in.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

Don't know if this was a regular feature before, but today I used the DC Universe app on Roku for the first time and there's a nice difference from the one on the Amazon stick. On the Roku one, once I finished watching a Young Justice episode, it gives the user the option to save or read the comic book related to the episode. I feel that's a really nice feature that should have been done across all devices carrying the app.

Yeah I like this feature. I think it's been there for a little while but no too long.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

I'm getting stronger rumors that HBOMax will absorb DC Universe app by the end of the year. About 850 people will be laid off from WarnerMedia in the next couple of weeks.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

Yeah the CEO just fired some top executives at Warner Media. And now the layoffs. They are definitely trimming the fat and I have to imagine DC Universe is part of the fat and will dismantled soon.

The social media accounts of some of their shows just removed all DC Universe branding.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

Warner Brothers just had a major bloodbath of layoffs and firings over the last few days, This really sucks for those who work in those industries.

One of the perks of subscribing to the DC app was that we were going to get offers from DC Collectibles for exclusive items. Well, DC Collectibles has been closed today with the layoffs.

Re: DC Universe streaming service

I hope the video content stays intact and doesn't disappear (ie rolls into HBOMax). And if rolling into HBOMax, that HBOMax finally gets a Roku and Amazon Apps. I also hope the ability to read the comics doesn't go away.

My curiosity though is about the timing of its demise considering some of us have time left in our annual subscriptions and what will happen to the money we've already spent.
