Um yeah, your "get a load of the old white men who don't know the SNL musical guest, are they living under a rock?" schtick is getting a bit old in the tooth itself, you've already said it a lot.

I don't know who Raye is, either.

I'll put this in a separate post so what I state is clear.
If you think that is what I have been posting, then you need to up your reading comprehension game. I don't know who a lot of these young musical artists are. I have never even heard of this one before this week. And because I am old enough, the first thing I thought of with someone going just by the name Raye was that old beer commercial bit.

My "schtick" is mocking the posts from the old white men on this forum who insist that since they have never heard of these artists (especially rappers and women) that they are not worthy of the platform or spotlight that SNL is giving them.

Like I said, I don't know who Raye is, but that does not lead me to assume that she is not talented or successful as a musical artist, and that is the attitude that I read from posters here, week to week. Just remember back to the season premiere with Ice Spice, and all the posts asking who the fuck she was, and why was SNL giving this nobody such an important spotlight. When a simple Google search would have shown anyone that Ice Spice was quite famous and very acclaimed.

So we'll likely get a New York earthquake skit and something on the eclipse?

She won Artist of the Year, Song of the Year, and three other awards.

If I was fifteen I still probably wouldn't know who she was.

I was watching a Rick Beato video not long ago where he covered this phenomena, how musical artists are more popular than ever, but their music has a limited audience. It's like how I've heard of Coldplay and Imagine Dragons, but I couldn't name one of their songs...

Shocking Hamm has not hosted since 2010 and he has all the tools to be 5 timer.

Raye sounds like she has the pipe to sings but the songs don't really hit you and sound like a mess.

That first song is kind of old now from 2022 and surprised she would sing it it since it is no longer being played 24/7 on the radio.

I sincerely hope that is the last time they do a Five-Timers monologue. I appreciate the hosts may feel it is special and would like the honor, but they can just include it at the end if they must. It's an incredibly tired routine, and not an exclusive club to be a part of anymore. It also just means more celebrity cameos that end up taking screen time away from the cast.

It just won Song of the Year at the Brit Awards, a month ago. And since SNL-viewing Americans don't know who she is, seems like playing her most important song would make sense.

Some nobody posts an opinion on social media, and somehow that becomes a news story. Huntley and Brinkley are spinning in their graves.

Her Target Lady character is now an official paid mascot for Target.

The problem is the attitude "I don't know about it, so that means it isn't worth knowing about."
There are a lot of famous and successful music artists that I know nothing about. But that makes me ignorant. In all honesty, SNL is one of the few ways I even become aware of some of these people. I just don't pay attention to new music and artists anymore. I don't think it is something to ashamed of, but neither is it something to be proud of.

I doubt many people were familiar with The B-52s before they performed Rock Lobster on the show way back in 1980.

I was going to bring this up too. Thankfully, Prince isn't around to see what's being done with his music.

I knew who they were. Granted, I was born in 1980, but I was SO cool that I already knew them.

What a waste of Kristen Wiig. Nothing memorable. Of all the characters to bring back, it's film reviewer Aunt Linda? She did get a chuckle from me on that one tho. Gotta say, Wiig has a rocking body. She keeps it tight! Those pelvic moves she was doing in that French disco thing sent me off to bed happy.

What was up with Jon Hamm in a Mad Men parody sketch? Didn't they do the exact same sketch when he hosted during Mad Men finale 10 years ago?

A bunch of famous people who didn't need to be there but showed up anyway? Ryan Gosling? Matt Damon? Why?

It was a repeat of the secretary character that Heidi Gardner played in the season premiere with Pete Davidson as the boss. Just makes sense that if you have Hamm hanging around you put him in there to add the Mad Men vibe.

Loved the pilates skit. My wife does pilates and she laughed a lot.

I didn't know who Raye was before this episode, but she's got a great voice. I know who she is now.

The pilates bit was hilarious but also kidna HOT. Speaking of, I forget that Wiig has her moments where she is really good looking. The pilates sketch and the Secretary sketch both reminded me of this.

Yep. Plus Wiig is great in those kinds of physical comedy bits. Let's also not forget Wiig and Hamm were toxic FWB in "Bridemaids" so there's a history.
