Emma is a good host, but the material wasn't very good.
Neither was BTS, but I realize I'm not their target demo.

I'm old. I have absolutely no idea who BTS is, and after last night performance on SNL, I don't care who they are.

Emma Stone was good as always, but I agree the material was pretty weak.

Yeah, I'm not her biggest fan, but she obviously loves doing the show and is willing to give her all. The stuff they gave her to do was pretty weak. Dumb Maxim poster girl and Jenny McCarthy, so just one character there.

Again, not a fan of BTS, but they sold out entire football stadiums in LA, Chicago and NJ in just a few minutes. They opened up second shows in each city. They have a crazy large fan base.

Where are they from? I never heard of them before last night.

Caught the episode during the Weekend Update. And only saw BTS's second song. Glad I missed their first song.

I'm an old man. BTS didn't do it for me. They have the traits of modern "music" which turn me off: flashy costumes, lots of dancing in lieu of thoughtful music, weak/unintelligible lyrics, minimal melody lines.

(But, what the hell. My parents hated The Beatles when I was growing up, so like them I'm out of step with the music of the times.)

Weak episode.

BTS was just interchangeable pop crap. First time I heard of them was in September when they played 3 sold-out shows in Hamilton - the only Canadian dates. I drew kids from all over the country. Blackpink will also be playing their only Canadian date in Hamilton later this month. Same crap - K-pop with girls this time. They draw the crowds too.

I am beginning to really like these experimental alt-comedy things SNL has been doing for the past couple of seasons.

'The Actress' with Emma Stone playing a serious actress dealing with her 'character' in a bit part in a porno movie was not anything ground breaking but Emma Stone gave it her all and really made this skit into something special.

For those out there thinking of going into acting, this was a great example of what real actors do to prepare for their craft. It's not all just memorizing lines and showing up looking pretty.

Agree that the rest of the show was weak. This skit was the highlight for me.

So many of you said this episode was weak. I thought it was terrible. Didn't laugh once. Not even during Weekend Update. WTF was up with that "Meeting in the Ladies Room" skit? Really!?? And BTS will be a faded (bad) memory in a year or two.

I am not a huge Emma Stone fan but she seems like a natural for sketch comedy.

Yes, I know the video well. I was just saying, it was a stupid skit. And painfully unfunny.

Hope I'm not being too obvious here, but you do realize the lyrics were in Korean, right?

Yeah, I'm no fan of the music either, but I do appreciate SNL putting on a musical act who does not sing in English.

Some of the lyrics were sung in English. An example of some of the English lyrics:

Searching out the translation of the lyrics for the entire song moved the needle a little in a more positive direction, but not enough for me.

Pretty sure most of us here aren't the intended audience for BTS (or other K-Pop and J-Pop for that matter). Hell, I'm used to ignoring the musical guests on SNL these days anyway, at least 90% of them are not to my taste, no biggie.

I'm an Emma Stone fan and thought she did well here, but yeah, must of the material was kind of weak.

With that said, what is SNL's target audience? Do millennials and youngest people make up a large percentage of their viewers? I'm thinking that SNL appeals more to older viewers who grew up with the show.

Then again, SNL is probably trying to attract more viewers by presenting acts such as BTS. (Kind of like Ed Sullivan featuring The Beatles on his show back in the days.)

Is this tactic working to bring in more viewers to SNL?

Might as well put this (with variables to replace the host and musical guest) in the first post of almost every SNL episode thread (or at least ones with decent hosts).

Adam Sandler was announced as an upcoming host. Correct me if I'm wrong, but he's never hosted before has he? 25 years since he left the show. Thats pretty interesting.
