My daughter’s vinyl copy of half of the album won’t be here until Wednesday.

Well of course it's a double album!

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

I just finished listening to both the original and Anthology albums.

My assessment was right: it really does sound like a slightly up-tempo Lana Del Rey album. Swift's voice range is much narrower than many of her previous albums, and it has a more personal feel like that of what Del Rey did; it would not be out of place for Del Rey to actually do a cover for several of the songs on both albums. Small wonder why Del Rey was up on the stage with Swift during the Grammy Awards, in my opinion.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

This isn't a double album. Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, Blonde on Blonde, London Calling, The White Album are double albums. This is Use Your Illusion I and II. That's fine but if you have to make two purchases for physic media it's not a double album. It's two bloody albums.

Now having listened to it, I like it less than anything done in the 2020s. Disappointed with the Florence track. It's still amazing that's she's released five albums in four years plus all the bonus material.

She was on stage because she appeared on the album that just won Album of the Year.
She and Taylor both use Jack Antonoff as their main producer and so it's not surprising that their stuff is sounding more and more similar.

Even Sports Talk Radio in town has talked about her new album but they said they would listen to it to see if there are any references to Travis Kelce.

Is there a physical release of Anthology? I can't find it anywhere. I'm considering returning my CD that is coming today and just buying the digital version of Anthology for almost the same price.

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

I previewed the first few songs and they are not poppy and are kinda somber and downbeat. I was hoping for more. maybe the rest of the album will make up for it.

It would be hard for it to be a surprise and it's existence not leak if it had to go to manufacturing ahead of time. Someone would have said something online.

You can hear both the original release and the Anthology additions on YouTube. Bring up the account of Taylor Swift on YouTube.com, scroll down to Releases, and select THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY. That will bring up a list of 31 songs, which is the original album plus the Anthology additions.

As far as I know there was never a physical release of all of the 3AM material of Midnights or at least not on CD. Some of it ended up on a special concert CD along with other bonuses but not all of the material. I would assume this will be released in full but who knows?

If you were paying any sort of attention, you wouldn't be expecting anything poppy or upbeat. It's a break up album after a six year relationship ended. Her Track 5 is called "Goodbye London".

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Man, the song on anthology called 'thanK you aIMee' is really a strong, visceral song about the lingering effects of high school bullying. She was clearly working through more issues than just her break up.
Edit : I'm being dumb, not high school bullying, Kim Kardashian bullying.

And I like that So High School sounds like an Oasis song.

Yeah, the songs she did with Dessener are much, MUCH better than any of the other songs.

The Tortured Poets Department: Anthology has a different vibe than first album. It kind of reminds of me Dessner's work on Folklore and Evermore but not in the Indie Folk genre.

The original album should NOT be compared to Swift's earlier work. As I said, the vibe is more like something you'd hear from Lana Del Rey or Billie Eilish with its much narrower vocal range and more downbeat tone, aka. the lack fo the glitter pen sound you normally hear.

This imo is a terrible album. The song she did with Post Malone I was psyched for. I don’t even remember him in the song at all. Oh well.

This detailed review of TPD brought to you from the author of this review of folklore :

Maybe I’ll try again after your recommend, but first listen was a travesty...
And this review of Midnights.
