Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

Taylor did an interesting thing here : She released five Playlist on Apple Music, sorting her songs in to the Kubler-Ross Five Stages of Grief (Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression/Sadness, Acceptance). Fascinating to see how she views some of her songs (Lover is in the Denial Playlist ). It will give me some different mood music. Of course Anger is the best one. I had to search for the Playlist on Spotify, since they're not official there, but they're easy enough to find and save.

The fact that Lover is in the denial playlist is very much an after the fact reclassification, because during her Tiny Desk Concert she talked about how Lover was a happy song.

Well, most of the time, we're not aware that we're actually in denial until after we've moved on.

of course. but it was YEARS before their breakup. If it truly was a song about being in denial or she truly was in denial at the time, versus being in a happy relationship that years later became unhappy, and knowing how Taylor mines her personal life for her songs, I think we would have seen evidence of a deeply unsatisfying/unhappy relationship in her work, and it's just not there. All my opinion, of course.

Given the potential subject matter of The Tortured Poets Department, I really wonder will the sound of the album have a slower, more downbeat tone than previous albums. in my opinion, it's not completely far-fetched that TTPD could have a sound akin to a slightly up-tempo version of a Lana Del Rey song.

I think realistically it will probably sound similar to the bonus tracks on Midnights like High Infidelity, Bigger Than The Whole Sky, Would've Could've Should've, and of course You're Losing Me -- either that or more stripped down but angry evermore and folklore stuff like cardigan, mad woman and tolerate it. But I suppose it could be a really dark somber album, like her version of Sea Change (maybe the greatest breakup album of the past 30 years).
In any case it's so funny that we are 26 hours from release and nobody has any idea. I'm gonna grab a couple of beers and sit in my Tesla in the garage and stream the whole thing right at 9. So looking forward to it.

The whole album leaked earlier today. I won’t spoil what I’ve read about how it sounds here, though, given that it’s less than a day away now. I’ll wait to actually listen to it until my kid plays it in the car nonstop for the next month.

If the car wasn’t an EV, that’d be a wild way to go out.

So far excellent.

can’t wait to dig in more. Lots of swearing. And the effects in the lyrics in Apple Music are so good. I’ve never seen it on other lyrics.

Never in a million years would I have ever thought that at least four of the tracks would be about Matty Healy. They dated for like six weeks!

Re: Taylor Swift -- Discussion Thread

I like the album a lot though. It's really visceral. Taylor sings for the first time about the experience of being Taylor Swift on several tracks like But Daddy I Love Him, Who's Afraid of Little Old Me and Clara Bow.

Yup, 15 more songs, if you can believe it.
Even Prince would tell her to slow down at this point.
