You could argue ALIEN follows the same formula as a slasher movie, and you'd be correct, but the pacing, and the visuals elevate this into an experience that makes you feel the majesty of space and the reminder our ephemeral lives are but a blip in the vastness of time. A true classic, that is so perfect you could watch it anytime, anyplace. (04/26)
26) Do Not Expect Too Much From The End Of The World (2024) D: Radu Jude **** 4 Stars
Combination experimental film, and wildly entertaining work satire. Filled with fascinating and unique moments. Best leading performance I've seen all year. Unfairly holding back the fifth star because I thought the final scene should have been its own short film. (04/27)

Very subdued horror film. Comparable to the kind of story they used to tell on The Twilight Zone; a fantastical situation that presents you with a series of ethical dilemmas. Has one of those bleak endings that gets worse the more you think about it. (04/30)

There isn't a tremendous amount of participation in this thread - although I'll say this is my first time and I'm really enjoying myself! - and I'm curious how people handle repeat viewings. I Watched Renfield on my own, then later watched it with my family. I also liked it better the second time. Do you put both viewings on your list? Update your rating? We all get to do this our own way, but I'm curious. How do you usually handle your data?

In the movie journal I've been keeping for years, I mark repeat viewings with an * , and note any relevant observations from this second (or third...) viewing.

I only use this for movies that I see in the theater and new movies on streaming; I had a 2023 cutoff as of Oscar weekend so now it's just 2024 streaming movies. A few years ago I would list a movie twice if I saw it in the theater more than once, but now I just update the rating if my opinion was changed in any way.

Listing the movies this way comes in handy at the end of the year (or March of the following year) when I decide my favorite films for 2024.

I try not to update mine...in retrospect, I'd give this movie more, that movie less, etc. But I decided just to leave them all as-is...even if months later I know I rated Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire too high and Civil War too low.
