Funny you should say that. I was just coming in to post on when the rest of you guys are planning on putting on your condoms before the film.

I have an hours drive up to Seattle to see it in a proper IMAX. I'll probably just put my condom on in the restroom before the movie starts.

What's interesting is that it's my understanding that the comic con attendees more or less gave a collective shrug to the Avatar footage when it was unveiled. We all know how that movie did.

I think the movie will be just like the original: some great visuals tied to an average story, punctuated by some stellar action pieces.

Nerds will be split as to whether it's good or bad, the general public will either not care or moderately enjoy the visuals.

And then 20 years later, people like me will still be the only ones watching both movies on home video, without skipping to the "cool" parts.

Any word on where the songs will be in the movie? Is 'end of line' track for the cycle race?

I'd love to use christmas lights to make my house like TRON and continually blast a sample of 'the game has changed.'

I'd imagine End of the line will be placed where they get to the End of the line club.

It's not going to be much different than the internet/nerds amplifying something more than it really is outside of the net anyway. You can toss that same thing to the whole TSA outrage and shit like Snakes on a plane.

More than likely it will be met with a big shrug from the general public. I know that if Disney is expecting Pirates money from their IP, they're forgetting that Pirates was successful in spite of the fact that it was a disney ride and more of the success goes to the three leads.

I'm happy for the making of this film and am looking forward to it. Don't care if it doesn't make extreme bank.

I agree on all points. This movie doesn't have a character nearly as interesting as Jack Sparrow, or as dramatic as the Orlando Bloom/Keira Knightley pairing. The visuals are gorgeous, but this isn't going to appeal to the public at large, imo.

The one hope this has beyond the geek crows is with young boys on Christmas break who think this looks cooler than Yogi Bear and Gulliver's Travels.

My wife and I have our tickets to a show this Friday at the 3-D IMAX theater at the Minnesota Zoo. Woot!

That's what I was referring to when I said the IMAX Multiplex screens - the ratio there is actually about 2:1, to balance between films shot in 1.85:1 and 2.39:1. They don't have masking.

Just got back from an IMAX 3D advance screening. Your feelings are correct, Boba Fett.

Just to make sure before I buy tickets because the last few posts have been confusing.

For the IMAX presentation, most of the film is 2.40:1 with sequences in 1.78:1 in IMAX? Or is the entire thing in 2.40:1?

Supermallet 12-14-10 11:21 PM

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

The IMAX presentation has varying aspect ratios (on film anyway, I don't know about digital).

I will concur. It looks and sounds so good though, honestly, I loved it regardless.

Kind of like...the original Tron.

I enjoyed the hell out of the film. The plot was still a lot more in-depth than the first film, I know that's not saying much, but I want to see it again asap cause it really was a great looking and sounding film, man.

Also, Jeff Bridges.. fucking awesome.

One of the dumbest movies I've ever seen - and that's saying a lot.

I mean, dumb is one thing, and I was sorta expecting that, but it was also just plain not fun. It was strangely inert, with clunky exposition and a middle hour that was more bland than milk-toast.

The first one was no masterpiece, but I was 10 when I saw that and it still made more sense than this turd.

I hope my reaction is at least somewhere in between these two.

I want to see this at midnight tomorrow. But, the nicer IMAX theater is sold out for the midnight show. There's another IMAX theater that's showing it a midnight but while t's not as nice, it's also not sold out. The nicer theater has a 2:40am showing...but I'd rather just wait until the 10:00am showing.

Decisions, decisions...

I'd lean toward the opinion of someone who has seen TRON recently and isn't coasting off of vague childhood memories.

This is all I'm hoping for all around. Got my tickets for an IMAX showing tomorrow night. I've never seen the original, so I have no attachment to it.

FWIW, neither do I. And even though I enjoyed it as a kid (mostly because it was something different), I feel that the original is not a good movie in any way, but it's not nearly as terrible as Legacy is. My 10-year old self may have liked Legacy as well, but probably not.

I just hope it's roaring good time. If Boba's descriptions are correct, I'm sure I won't be disappointed. I'm not expecting anything more than dumb, fun time, but not one that insults like Michael Bay.

For a movie like this, a sin worse than being dumb is being boring, and boy, is it ever boring.

I'm planning to see this in Disney Digital 3D on Friday. I haven't seen the original, but will watch it prior to Friday. I just hope this is an amazing feast for the eyes and ears with the remarkable visuals and score by Daft Punk. The script should at least be decent considering it's from Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz.
