Ah. Just rewatched that and saw it. Glad they kept the same concept. When I heard and saw footage of the equivalent of planes, I had a bad feeling they turned the Sailer into a plane.

Michael Sheen was on Craig Ferguson's show tonight and they showed a clip from the movie. In it, Daft Punk's cameo was revealed. As expected they were in TRON style versions of their costumes, handling the music in a club, and shown in a wide shot. Nothing special.

That is insane!!! Tron has always been one of my favorite movies so I bought the two-disc set ages ago, I believe when the Disney stores were having sales on DVDs. I didn't know I was sitting on a goldmine!

A couple of questions:

The soundtrack video has been removed, so does it pay homage to the original? The soundtrack from Tron is a masterpiece and it still sticks in my head.

Garrett Hedlund...sigh, that boy is fine I like to look at him, but his acting is so bad. I think him being in the lead is what has dampened my enthusiam just a bit. I'm sure hormones will take over allowing me to fully enjoy the experience, but what about you guys? Anyone else concerned?

Finally, the Tron stand-up arcade game...if I had the money I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Free screenings in select IMAX theaters at 8:00 P.M. on December 13, courtesy of Philips Norelco:

They apparently will be giving away X number of tickets every day through December 12, so you can try again the next day if you strike out. There are no screenings in my area. :(

In answering your first question, you will hardly hear anything even remotely sounding like the original, except for a few bars here and there. But having listened to the entire soundtrack (repeatedly), Daft Punk's score will more than likely be as famous and well recognized as the original. it's pretty damn great. I'm sure in context of the movie it'll be that much better.

I did mention a while back that Garrett Hedlund has the acting range of Sam Worthington. Can't share your enthusiasm for even looking at him though. Thank goodness there's so much more to look at in this movie - like Olivia Wilde.

fuck yes I'd buy the original arcade game in a heartbeat if I could. My wife will have to just deal with it.

Yay, that makes me even more excited! I'm a lover of film scores in general so a good one is very important to me.

That's so funny because I love Sam Worthington too. I actually thought Terminator Salvation was good until after my eighth time watching it and realizing I just liked looking at Sam because the movie made no sense at all. Guess I have a thing for bad actors.

I'm pretty sure the movie will have so much more going on that I'll forgive the inevitable bad performance.

For real! I remember spending all of my arcade money at that one game sometimes.

And I'm really mad that I didn't get a pair of the Tron Adidas when they came out a few years ago!

Yeah, sorry - that wasn't meant to be a compliment about the acting range of Sam Worthington. I personally can't figure out why they're the main stars in such high profile movies. I absolutely loathe both of them and their wooden acting. For Hedlund, his acting nearly derailed it for me in the 20 minute preview. The action sequences more than made up for it. So yes, the action will hopefully have the audience overlook that aspect. But hey, I know those actors are a draw for a lot of people, so more power to them.

LOL, I know. Neither of them are winning any Oscars anytime soon and they're both equally horrible. It wasn't just that Salvation itself made no sense, Sam's acting was atrocious...at times he didn't even try to keep his American accent. My love for the movie was hormonally induced overall.

So you saw the 20-minute preview and Garrett didn't do any better than usual, huh? Good to know the action will override his acting then because I'm super excited. I'm going to watch my Tron DVD with my brother and daughter, who both haven't seen it, before 2.0 and you bet I'll be there opening night to see it in all of its IMAX 3D glory.

Oh, and 3D makes me sick as a dog, but you bet I'll be so amped up on Dramamine, ginger pills and peppermint, which I only do for special events as this.

I'm going to a TRON Viewing party in a few weeks. Shit, I don't think I've ever seen the whole thing.

They've got a 3D TRON:LEGACY preview set up at Disneyland in the Muppets Theater. They have lighting and some mild sfx to enhance the preview viewing with the Light Bike outside to check out. It's actually pretty sweet.

They're also running ElecTRONica which is a club like TRON themed experience .

For some reason they always aired it on television around Thanksgiving on my local stations. I've seen it so many times that way. It still holds up, IMO.

Thanks. All passes out today. I guess it doesn't matter because the screening will probably be way overbooked with too many people and not enough seats.

Wow, no screenings for San Diego... and it was here during Comic-Con that they initially announced the movie and got it kick-started. Gee, thanks, Disney :(

Good to see the gigantic city of Bentonville, AR gets the free screenings, but little old Portland gets the shaft.

And yet if someone offered one in the exchange forum for less than half that, it would still go unsold.

This is also posted in the Amazon thread in Music Talk, but the "Amazon exclusive" version of the soundtrack (with digital booklet) is available in MP3 format for $3.99 today:

hot damn! the Uptown theatre here in DC is showing this in 3D

:bdance: :bdance: :bdance:

was listening to the soundtrack yesterday, interesting, will more than likely grow on me, but it wasn't what I was expecting. Let's put it this way, it's not as groundbreaking as Vangelis' score for 'Blade Runner' or Plaid's sountrack for 'Tekkonkonreet'

Re: Tron 2 Announced at SDCC!!

Listened to the soundtrack last night as I fell asleep. The sound is interesting considering who made it. It alternates between the techno-funk sound for which Daft Punk is known and stuff that is truly epic sounding. It's not a flooring score, but worth the $3.99 I paid, especially considering the amount of tracks. I will say that I think this is one that requires a viewing of the movie in order to truly appreciate, similar to Blade Runner.

I am interested in how they intend to get people to understand the movie since the original isn't readily available on DVD. I love the original, but it has been some time since I last viewed it. I am guessing they will take the approach of this more or less being its own thing, with the original as a sort of vague background with a few allusions.
For those that have heard the soundtrack:
Spoiler:
is the voice that introduces the "Grid" track supposed to be that of Master Control? It doesn't sound much like Jeff Bridges/Flynn.

I don't doubt that, but to be a hit this needs for non-Tron people to dig it as well.

Spoiler:
It sounds exactly like Jeff Bridges. More than likely as Flynn. The MCP is dead as far as we know - unless they decide to bring that back. But when he's talking, he says he wonders what the Grid would look like, and then one day, he got in.

Okay, listening again
Spoiler:
it is obviously Flynn. Sounds more like Bad Blake without an accent though. ;) Guess I'm just used to hearing Bridges laid back Dude voice.

I finally saw the original TRON last weekend at a "Tron Viewing Party". I was let down. I mean it was interesting, but once the credits rolled I was like, "that's it?".

Oh well, TRON:Legacy looks like it will at least be a visual hit.

The original is good, but the FX are very limited to its time period. They still look appropriate for the world in which it takes place IMO, but I could see how someone who didn't grow up with it would find it a letdown. The movie can be quite boring the first time, especially if you're a five year old who was used to Star Wars type stuff like me. ;) But like all movies that got followings over time, it had to grow on everyone.

I think the sequel will be more action base to appeal to today's modern youth. Given that the first one can be a yawner, I can understand that approach.
