Per IGN and AICN, Tron 2 footage was shown during the Disney panel this afternoon.
AICN Report IGN Report Apparently, a certain "Dude" is back... :toast: |
Sweet!
|
Wow! Sound great, hopefully the movie is really good. I got both the dvd and cd soundtrack 20th anniversary Tron stuff. I played Tron 2.0, and I loved the video game Discs of Tron.
Maybe they can ask Wendy Carlos to do the music? |
^You sound like a Tron addict. Geez, I wonder why. :D
A sequel? 20 years later...man. |

A sequel? 20 years later...man. Think I'll play the Tron arcade game. :D |
Better late than never...then again, he'll probably have a sidekick named Mutt with him in the grid. -ptth-
|
Is Bruce Boxleitner in it? He's not busy these days.
|
Flynn!
|
Thank you Disney!!!

Sweet trailer. Was not expecting to see this at all. This was more special than Hugh showing up with the Wolverine trailer.
|
Where did you see it?

Reminds me of that old Atari 2600 game "Surround." :) I often hear a sequence in Young Sherlock Holmes credited as the first use of CGI effects. Technically, shouldn't Tron deserve that honor instead? |
From jimhillmedia.com:
Who says that Walt Disney Pictures can't keep a secret? As the "Race to Witch Mountain" panel ended yesterday at Comic-Con, 6,500 people got to their feet. As these folks made ready to head back into the San Diego Convention Center, that panel's MC hurried back onstage. Saying "Stay in your seats please. We have something else to show you folks. Something that won't be in theaters for another year or so." And then the house lights went down again. The Walt Disney Pictures appeared on the screen, then quickly faded to black. A very familiar sort of black. And then -- as muted neon-like lines of color appeared on the distant black-marble horizon -- a gasp went up in Hall H. It couldn't ... It can't be ... Tron 2?! But that's what it was, folks. Three minutes of CG goodness. Showing two lightcycles zooming across a seemingly infinite game grid. Of course, this being 2008 rather than 1982 ... The game has changed somewhat over the past 26 years. Now players can race across different levels of the same terrain, using spiral ramps up or down in an attempt to gain an advantage over their opponents. And as for the lightcycles themselves ... They were very reminiscent to the bikes seen in the original Steve Lisberger film. Only bigger and meaner-looking. Which -- given the way that these two vehicles battered against one other as they raced across the course, sending showers of blue & yellow sparks flying everywhere -- only seemed appropriate. Yeah, this was definitely not your Daddy's "Tron." As was apparent by the appearance of first a grey, bearded version of Flynn (Jeff Bridges). Who was holed up in this austere furturistic penthouse which overlooked the game grid. This was then followed by the appearance of a much younger looking CG Flynn. Who -- as the injured lightcycle rider lay crumpled at Flynn's feet said "Hey, it's only a game" -- he powered up his energy disk and then said "Not anymore." And as this CG Flynn moved in for the kill, the "TR2N" logo formed onscreen. And at that point, the crowd in Hall H went absolutely nuts. I'm told that the three minutes of footage that was shown at Comic-Con yesterday wasn't so much a trailer for "TR2N." But -- rather -- a proof of concept. This footage was actually used to convince Mouse House managers that "Tron" could effectively be updated / reimagined for today's audiences. Who obviously demand a bit more edge to their action. Which is why the first "Tron" 's Flynn character is now being rethought of as a Colonel Kurtz-style villain. Someone who's no longer grounded in reality. But -- rather -- has slipped off into cyberspace where he's now wrecking havoc. Speaking of Flynn ... I'm told that -- in order to keep word from leaking out that "TR2N" was actually in the works -- Jeff Bridges shot all of his Mad-Old-Flynn scenes with a very small crew in a single afternoon. And that each member of this production team then had to sign confidentiality agreements in order to prevent word from leaking out in advance about the "Tron" sequel. Which is why this footage caught everyone at Comic-Con by surprise. As the lights came up in Hall H, you could see people all over that auditorium whipping out their cellphones and frantically calling their friends. Proudly proclaiming "I just saw the 'Tron 2' trailer." FYI ... If you're at this year's Comic-Con and missed out on seeing the "TR2N" footage yesterday, my sources at Disney suggest that you might want to attend Saturday's "Bolt / Up!" presentation. Which could possibly feature a second appearance of Crazy-Old-Flynn. So are you folks really ready to return to the world of Tron? Particularly since "TR2N" is reportedly being envisioned as a showcase for the Disney Digital 3D process? |
HATE the "TR2N" title. Just call the freaking thing Tron 2.
Did a double take when I saw Ricky Gervais would be in this. It should make it interesting! And Sean Connery! He will do this sequel but wouldn't do the new Indiana Jones movie? I've been looking forward to this for about ten years now since I first heard rumors this was coming. |
There's a copy (not great) of the trailer up at http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x68...rtr_shortfilms

arrgh. gone already!

Here is a link to the teaser. It is very poor quality, but in case you haven't seen it it might be worth checking out. It's the only one I can find online at the moment.

Tron 2? How will they be able to surpass the cinematic genius of the first Tron? ;)
|
Another bootleg video of the trailer, in case the youtube one goes down.
http://www.filmstalker.co.uk/archive...er_online.html Gave me chills! Jeff Bridges: "It's just a game!" Other guy: "Not any more!" |
I betcha unlike the first film this one won't be filmed with 70mm cameras. Talk about a film that would have been cool filmed ALL in IMAX
|
this is great news i hope they do a great job with it......
|
From what I was able to make out, that looked pretty badass. It'd be nice if Disney (or whomever) puts out a better version. Why let all the SDCC geeks get all the perks?

So, when is this coming out? There is nothing about it on IMDB. They did a pretty good job keeping it under wraps.
|
Wow. Total nerdgasm. That was fucking awesome.
Disney. Please don't have Linkin Park remake Only Solutions for the soundtrack. End of line. |

Quality isn't great but this gives you an idea about the trailer. Bootleg from Comic Con.

Freaking awesome for Disney to do a sequel since the original didn't make that much money. calhoun, Ricky Gervais and Sean Connery are gonna be in this? Where did you read that? |

I don't know about having so many celebrities in it. Big budget would be nice but I'd like the movie to concentrate on the characters and story as much as the original did.

I was soooooo impressed with this trailer/clip. Jeff Bridges looked awesome as did the bikes and the whole chase sequence. I have read over a number of years that they were mulling over this, but to see something like this come out of the blue is amazing. It sounds like it was footage done in order to get funding for a full movie, and if so i would say that this footage must have sold Disney on its potential.
I can't wait to see this movie when it eventually comes out. I saw the original in the cinema when i was a kid and have always loved the Tron universe. |
Has the SDCC footage been released legitimately yet?

Here's some more info on the state of the project: http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hi...-director.aspx
It's been a week now since that "TR2N" teaser trailer ran at Comic-Con. And Disneyana & sci-fi fans are desperate for additional information about this Summer 2010 release. Well, let me share some info that I'm sure will send all of you "TRON" fanboys out there straight off the Game Grid. Guess who's the real power-behind-the-throne (The Master Control Program, if you will) on this particular Walt Disney Pictures production? Would you believe John Lasseter? Yep, the Chief Creative Officer of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios has quite the soft spot when it comes to the original "TRON." Lasseter still remembers when he first saw this Steve Lisberger film. Which was back in 1981 when John was just a lowly animator toiling away on "Mickey's Christmas Carol." One lunch hour while wandering around the Disney lot, Lasseter came upon the trailers where all of the 16 X 20 Kodalith cels that were used in this 1982 production were stored. And it was here that John first saw "TRON" 's lightcycle sequence. And as Lasseter looked at this CG sequence ... "It absolutely blew me away! A little door in my mind opened up. I looked at it and said, `This is it! This is the future!'" Mind you, John was quite taken with the look of "TRON" (as well as -- of course -- that film's use of computer animation). But as for that movie's storyline ... Lasseter wasn't really a fan. He felt that Lisberger had missed some obvious opportunities to create a truly compelling piece of entertainment. Something that would have touched an audience's emotions as it dazzled their eyes. Which is why -- even though Steve (i.e. "TRON" 's original director & co-writer) has spent the past five years developing a script for a sequel -- none of that material will now be used in the production of "TR2N." Don't get me wrong, folks. Lasseter is still extremely respectful of all the groundbreaking work that Lisberger & his production team did on the first "TRON." Which is why Steve will receive a co-producer credit on this 2010 Walt Disney Pictures release. But as for Lisberger having any real creative input on the sequel ... "GAME OVER !," man. "So -- if Steve isn't working on the 'TR2N' screenplay anymore -- who is then?," you ask. Well ... Allegedly at John's insistence, Disney hired Eddie Kitsis & Adam Horowitz to create a script for this sequel. Given their long association with "Lost," Kitsis & Horowitz have lots of experience when it comes to guiding colorful characters through surreal settings. Which made Eddie & Adam an obvious choice for the "TR2N" assignment. And if Lisberger's no longer slated to helm the "TRON" sequel, who's Disney now going to get to direct this movie? Joseph Kosinski. Who has yet to actually direct a full-length feature film but has created some award-winning commercials for Saab, Nike and X-Box. In fact, if you want to get some sense of the visual look that Joseph wants to bring to "TR2N," click on the above links. Or -- better yet -- check out Kosinski's animated architectural renderings. These will give you a better sense of Joseph's eye. The way this guy moves a camera. Which offers a hint of how truly dazzling a Kosinski-directed version of "TRON" could be. Speaking of which ... To convince Disney executives that his vision for "TR2N" was commercially viable, Joseph spent six months working in secret with the folks at Digital Domain. Laboring to create a vivid, updated version of "TRON" 's famous lightcycles. With the hope that this three-minute-long sequence would then prove to the suits that a sequel to this 26-year-old film would actually appeal to today's gamers. Which brings us to Disney Interactive Studios' involvement in the "TR2N" project ... To help prime the pump for this potentially-hugely-profitable profect, Disney's gaming division actually released an Xbox 360 version of those classic arcade games, "TRON" and "Discs of TRON," last summer. Given the huge number of units that were then sold to video game players as well as "TRON" fans ... It was clear that there are a lot of people out there who -- just like John Lasseter -- have a very soft spot in their hearts when it comes to this particular Walt Disney Productions release. But that said ... There are still those at the Studio who are saying that it may be a mistake to release a "TRON" sequel 28 years after the fact. |
Sucks that Liseberg has poured his heart and soul into this project for the past 5 years only to be cast aside. But at least its in capable hands.

I've been hoping for a Tron 2 for years.
But it's got to have both Bridges AND Boxleitner. Even if Boxleitner's role has only 15 or 20 minutes of screen time, he's got to be in it. He IS Tron for cryin out loud! Having him in there as the antiquated program among the young studs (so to speak), but holding his own would be cool! |
