You're telling me.
Spoiler:
I'm sure Craven got a kick out of having all his remakes rattled off on that list. Also, the audience I was with immediately noticed the chair homage. They were all whispering to each other about it.
It was nice seeing it with other fans, as all those callbacks went over well.

A random line I enjoyed:

Williamson was interviewed by EW, and he cleared the air around his involvement significantly: http://insidemovies.ew.com/2011/04/0...in-williamson/

Spoilers are marked spoilers for a reason. If you didn't want to chance it you shouldn't have clicked it plain and simple.

Saw it. Not as good as the original, but better than the previous two sequels IMO. The mystery factor is definitely the strong point of this one, as the scares fall flat. Good gore quotient though!

Spoiler:
I read the spoiler about the killer, but having two people in on it did keep me wondering if it was an internet plant to throw people off the track. I was wondering who did it until it was revealed despite having read it earlier.

I have to say, the audience I was with (about fifty or so) liked it, but I think that the new levels of enforcement on R rated movies will keep future ones from being made, at least with this rating. There were lots of teenagers outside wanting to see it but saying "Man, it's rated R." I have a feeling that if this one doesn't do well this weekend, the higher ups at Dimension will be kicking themselves for not trying for a PG-13. Granted, that would not have helped it, but most likely would have gotten a bigger audience.

Scream 5 will happen.

Here's my problem: I didn't love the film, but I didn't hate it either. It's light years ahead of the disaster that was Scream 3, but it's not nearly as good as the first two films in the franchise. The film, like Scream 3, is vapid; but unlike its predecessor, at least it's not vapid and boring. God bless the film's quick running time because the movie runs on all cylinders until the film's final reveal. Like others, I missed character development and a strong, supporting story... but with the exception of our main three heroes, who don't get that much screen time, everyone else is practically cannon fodder.

Here's my biggest problems with the film and this will require a re-watch to get a better opinion of how I feel:

Spoiler:
1. I don't know how I feel that the film kills off all of its newly introduced characters, with the exception of Marley Shelton's who miraculously survives last minute, in its quick running time. I get that it's a big "fuck you" to those who thought this film would pass the torch on a new generation of characters, but this now proves a few things:

1a. Isn't this story pretty much worthless to tell? Sidney, Gale and Dewey survive again while everyone dies around them. Whoop-de-do.

1b. Why would they be going through the same exact shit for the fourth time?

1c. Where the fuck do you go from here for Scream 5?

I get that the audience is really connected to its main three and none of us want that group of three to die, but here's two options to present:

Option A: You stop making Scream films. Ha. I forgot this is a Weinstein production [In this case, you continue to make Scream films and let the characters of Sidney, Gale and Dewey just leave to protect the audience.]

Option B: You know that franchise that you made fun of for the first ten minutes of the film? The Saw franchise? Yeah, that franchise had the balls to kill main characters off at any minute to keep the story moving.

2. I wish more time was spent with specific, new characters. I have never found Hayden Panettiere to be attractive prior to this film, but with short hair and shooting out horror film knowledge, I wanted to fuck her brains out. It's too bad they killed her, because I could've just spent 104 minutes staring at her on a big screen. I also wish we got to spend an extra scene or two with the cops played by Anthony Anderson and Adam Brody. Their one, brief scene (which is the only scene that got laughter out of the audience) is cut to a quick close despite it being an awesome kill.

3. I wish more time was spent with the original core crew. If you're going to kill everyone introduced, why not spend some quality time with the main three? I'm surprised all three made it out alive considering their footage alone consists of maybe a quarter of the film tops. The only time the film actually spends with them that's of quality is the film's ending.

4. Where's Patrick Dempsey and Sidney's father, i.e. the only two people to survive the original trilogy outside of the core three?

I also disagree with the people who are stating Scream 4 has become the film that the franchise was satirizing in the first place. No, that film exists and it's called Scream 3 which is completely dull and lifeless. Scream 4 is at least entertaining for its short running time. Honestly, just let this franchise die.

Also, all of the footage from the first Stab film was lifted from Scream 2. That "A Robert Rodriguez Film" credit is right there as Jada Pinkett Smith and Omar Epps enter the theater.

Spoiler:

That was a missed opportunity. Anthony Anderson is pretty awesome, and Adam Brody is PERFECT for this kind of movie, yet they didn't get much screen time at all. If they were going to pass the torch, those two would have been as good as anyone to carry on. It didn't help matters that I found the original three to be a little lifeless. Campbell was good in her role as Superwoman, but I would have been cool with the other two dying.

And while I wouldn't use your wording - wink-, I do agree that Hayden was easily the most attractive new kid.

And I forgot to mention, I do think the scariest moment in the movie, that was for red herring purposes was ---

Spoiler:

When Sydney came out of her cousin's room and that cop was standing in the hall way. Was that scene a little heavy handed? Yes, but I really did like it.

It'll recoup its $40 million budget if it hasn't already with foreign sales. The Weinsteins have already started a search for new writers, so I'm expecting its full steam ahead.

However, a part of me is pleased the film didn't do so well due to the Weinsteins middling that forced Williamson out of the picture.

Yeah, getting a new writer for Scream 3 worked so well for 'em, so let's give another go.

The opening is the most clever of the series, but probably not my favorite.

The finale is my favorite of the series, and my favorite killer of the series, as well. Everything about the finale was epic nuttiness.

I want a 15 minute longer director's cut on DVD, though. This movie needed to be milked a little more.

Did you see the link I posted on the last page? The Weinsteins may have meddled with things, but Williamson claims he left just because "The Vampire Diaries" was his number one priority and Harvey wanted Scream 4 to take precedence.

I admit, hiring Ehren Kruger back was a pretty ridiculous thing to do, though, and the film still had some meddling done. But I can buy that the meddling was not actually why Kevin left.

But either way you took a chance by clicking on the spoiler tag.

Anyways I haven't gotten a chance to see this yet (probably going on Monday), but I have to say I'm pretty excited for it. The last one wasn't great but this looks pretty good from the trailers.

Anyways, off to see Scream 4. Can't wait to see Randy being the killer.

I read the link, but I'm not buying it. I feel its more "damage control" than anything else especially since Williamson declined to be interviewed for both documentaries.

I just read that Emma Roberts is playing Sidney's niece. How ? She doesn't have any brothers or sisters.
