re: Scream 4 (Craven, 2011) - script by Williamson
I saw it last night and will not spoil it for anyone, but if you're a fan of the series, you'll love it. It is on par with the sequels (It is pretty tough to top the original) and the opening sequence is brilliant. The crowd ate it up and the ending was clever. It does drag a bit here and there (some clunky dialogue/situation setup, most notably between the great opening and the next kill) but it was fun to see this cast back together and the gore was decent. If you don't like the series, it's not going to win you over, but if you're already a fan, I don't think it will disappoint.

C'mon, everyone knows this is going to be a piece of shit.

I don't think so. I think the trailer is actually pretty fun, they got the original cast back and if it's as entertaining as the sequels (and it sounds like it is) then they are really going to have to drop the ball for it to be a "piece of shit".

Well, in my own defense I thought the first film was solid, the second is decent and the third is a turd. As far as the original cast, none of them has ever wowed me with their abilities, so I would've been just as tepid to this had it featured no returning players.

I'm actually wondering if someone major buys it in the opening killing. I kind of wonder if they might do like the last regular Halloween

To me, the original isn't some untouchable classic. The opening is the only classic thing about it, and the middle of the movie always drags a little bit when I watch it. I prefer 2, and sometimes even 3, but other times 3 is too goofy on some viewings.
Most of the test screening reports are positive, but not mind blowing. I'm not expecting anything great, just something that doesn't feel like a total cash-in. A movie that has some creative stuff in it.

Mickey, Timothy Olyphant's character, wanted to be a copycat killer immortalized in the media = good writing.
Mrs. Loomis, Laurie Metcalf's character, was Billy's mother = lazy writing.
In Scream 3, Roman, played by who gives a fuck, was Sidney's step-brother = piss-poor writing.

I'm also in the minority that prefers the 2nd movie to the 1st. However, I feel the 3rd deserves all the hate it gets.

I just finished watching this for the first time in years and i think that he deliberately made his voice like that to punctuate his craziness.
I hope the killer(s) in IV have good reason for doing what they do.

A lot of the stars are going to be on the talk shows in the next couple of weeks. It's going to be tough to keep up with them all.

I've always really liked the first two Scream films (maybe 2 better than the first), but I thought the third was terrible. High hopes for the 4th.

Will Arquette and Cox be doing PR for the movie together, or separately?

Blah. I clicked it thinking it was just an assumption and not someone who actually knew the details. (thinking obvious would be Sidney). Oh well.

Same here. Sans your Sidney theory.
