Scream 4 (Craven, 2011) - script by Williamson

Boy.. I watched the trailer and the tv commercials... utterly hilarious! I can't to see it.

Rogue588 10-17-03 01:26 PM

Scream....4?

[don't know if I even wanna know, but...links?]

or are you talkin' about Scary Movie 3..?

Regurgitator 10-17-03 01:37 PM

Oops.. I meant Scary Movie 3.. I guess just recently watching the Michael Jackson look alike screaming in the trailer got me laughing so much I typed in scream and the number 4 I don't know why I said 4.

Neve says NO to Scream 4

Neve Campbell told FilmFocus that she'd definitely not be involved in another "Scream" should a fourth film go ahead.

"We were really lucky with the Scream films to actually make a good trilogy, I think it's very challenging to find other films that have done that properly" she revealed, "but I think it was a good idea for me to stop there. They are going to go ahead and make a Scream 4, I guess they're casting it right now and it was offered to me; but to me, for Sidney, it just doesn't make sense!)...I think it would have been smart to leave it at three. Miramax is going to go ahead and make a fourth and perhaps they'll do a good job; you never know. If Kevin [Williamson] writes it, it's quite possible they'll do a good job".

And why the change of heart? "Sidney Prescott should have gone insane in the second Scream" she joked, "It was hard for them to get me to do the third one; how far can you go with a character whose friends have either all tried to kill her or died? The only way I could be in Scream 4 is in an insane asylum in a straight-jacket". No chance of a cameo then? "I doubt it, I seriously doubt it".

good for her, any film series that extends beyond it's third story (notably in the horror genre) tends to go downhill.

:horse:

scott shelton 09-22-05 10:47 AM

Some might say they should've stopped before they made the first one.

Geofferson 09-22-05 11:29 AM

Glad to hear it - this should stay a trilogy.

Josh H 09-22-05 11:49 AM

Good! It was a fucking trilogy. The story is resolved.

Crashnburn 09-22-05 12:00 PM

How about a cameo at the start with her being killed? And then move on to a new star of the series. I had thought of this idea ever since I saw Scream 3. I hated Scream 3! It was your typical slasher/horror flick where they end up in a big scary masion with secret rooms and passages. So everything the first Scream made fun of they ended up doing in the third. And the whole "I'm your long lost half brother" thing was the dumbest thing I had ever heard of.

Basically I walked out of the theater after watching Scream 3 mumbling to my friends that they better do a fourth one just make up for that piece of crap. And my mind was already churning out ideas for the story. My original idea was going to have Dewey and Gail driving late at night on deserted back road. They had just gotten back from their honeymoon (remember I came up with this idea years ago after I just saw Scream 3) looking at each other with love in their eyes. When a large black SUV comes up behind them and bumps them. They say typical lines like, "What's this guy's problem?" Then the SUV pulls up along side of them and that's when they realize that the driver is wearing Ghostface mask. As panic begins to set in for the couple the killer hits the breaks on the SUV and swings back behind Dewey and Gail's car and begins hitting them from behind again. Dewey steps on the accelerator trying to out run the killer but of course the SUV has more muscle and is able to keep up. Eventually the killer forces them off the road causing their car to roll and slamming into a tree. As the couple groggily climb out of the car the killer pounces on Dewey driving the knife into his abdomen. As Dewey falls to the ground clearly lifeless the killer turns to face gail and she begins to back away but trips over a root of the tree landing on her back she begins to scramble away. The killer catches her and a quick flash of the knife and Gail's screams carry us into the title sequence. I thought this opening would be interesting with killing off a couple of the main characters and set the tone for the movie.

Sorry for unloading all that crap, I just wanted to get that out there since I had been carrying it around for so long.

Silt 09-22-05 12:04 PM

They should have ended the first movie (and the series) after Drew was killed...after that the rest of the movie(s) went way downhill.

Dan1boy 09-22-05 12:07 PM

Much like other recent "remakes" (The Fog) or "sequels" (Scream 4) in the works, who's really asking for them? I certainly doubt the fans are...

*sigh* when is Hollywood gonna wake up?

They did that with Halloween and Jaimee Lee. Bad idea.
Stop at 3.

I'm so sick of the Witchcraft XI hating on this board -ohbfrank-

Most fans would hate that like they hate Alien 3, which had the balls to do the same thing (and one of the reasons that it's my favorite).

It's even more possible that he'll write another Cursed or Teaching Mrs.Tingle. As a fan of the Scream trilogy, I'd see a fourth one no matter what, but I can't imagine how they would do it. The only concept I can see actually working is disregarding the third movie (ala Halloween H20 with the fourth and fifth films of that series).

actually I've heard that this series is quite imaginative and entertaining.

Dr. DVD 09-22-05 02:58 PM

I've actually felt that the best way to go with a fourth Scream would be to have an all new cast and area that's dealing with a copycat killer. Then towards the end in a glorified cameo, Sidney could return to help them as a sort of "specialist" who it turns out has made a living of dealing with these copycats in the years since Scream 3 ended.

Either that, or they should have ended part 3 with the killer either actually being Sidney, Gail, or Dewey, which would have made a bit more sense than what they actually did.

I think they are in the minority.

Scream 1, Budget: $14 million, Worldwide Gross: $173 million
Scream 2, Budget: $39 million, Worldwide Gross: $172 million
Scream 3, Budget: $62 million, Worldwide Gross: $161 million

Scream 1's box office total for the first few weekends was increasing due to great word of mouth. As long as they are making huge profits, I don't see them stopping this series.

Numanoid 09-22-05 05:05 PM

Perhaps the "some" he was referring to are people who enjoy quality over popularity. ;)

How I feel about the Scream Series:

I am not crazy about it, but I thought it was ok.

Scream 1: The opening was fantastic and one of the best set up horror scenes in any horror film. A great throwback to movies like When a Stranger Calls and 80's gore-athons. The rest of the movie was average at best and paled in comparison to the opening. Then again, I was not a fan of the main characters. The characters I liked died.

Scream 2: I actually liked this a little better than Scream when I saw it in 97. I thought the first half of the movie was fairly well done. The theater opening and the sorority house scenes were nicely done. The second half dipped down and became kind of boring.

Scream 3: Everything the first film made fun of. This was a big budgeted B movie that reminded me of a Scooby Doo episode. Mediocre & was ok to see once.

I haven't seen any of these in years, but that's how I felt about them as I saw them.

Anyhow, Scream 4 should be a decent sized financial hit if it looks up to snuff.

Number 4's in a the Big Horror Series generally do well (especially using their inflated totals). People will tolerate 4 movies before they get sick of something it seems in a Big Hitter mainstream horror franchise. Unless it's an anniversary and/or event movie (which H20 & Freddy vs Jason were).

I thought this was an interesting comparison.

Friday the 13th 4: Box Office Hit/ Number one in 1984 when released
Nightmare on Elm Street 4: Box Office Hit/Number 1 in 1988 when released
Halloween 4: Moderate Success/Number 1 for two weeks in 1988

Unreleated:
Rocky 4: Box Office Smash

Now, look at number 5's

Friday the 13th 5: Grossed around half of Part 4. Though making this movie only one year after the highly marketed Final Chapter was a huge mistake. This movie started the parody the later movies would finish. Considered a financial disappointent compared to the first few in 85.

Nightmare on Elm Street 5: Made around 60% less than Part 4. Considered a fairly large disappointment in 89. I remember everyone bitching about how boring and lame it was in 89 as well compared to those before it. Bad word of mouth killed it almost immediately.

Halloween 5: Was considered a Box Office Bomb in 89. Not technically true since it's budget was so miniscule, but considered so all the same. I mean it made less than Jason X.

Rocky 5: A Huge financial disappointment compared to 1-4. Made worlds less than those which were all hits.

So, a Scream 4 will probably do well. Chances are they will pin it as a 10 year anniversary movie as well which will attract attention.

Just don't go for that number 5.

Movies like Star Wars/James Bond/etc. are of course not included. The longevity those have shown is quite impressive.

Interesting pattern AllHallowsEve.

How I feel about these new slasher films. No naked chicks = no sale. Just getting the hot Maxim flavor of the month in a film without some titties is just radiculous. -ohbfrank-

Rockmjd23 09-22-05 07:15 PM

I see a PG-13 in their future.

Be careful of what you ask for. This is how we went from Jaws 3D to Jaws: The Revenge.

Sometimes it's best just to stop.
