Hasbro has said "No Gun" to Megatron - which probably has all the world to do with that when you get right down to it, the toy sales from this is gonna be HUGE. Unfortunately, the puritan standards dictate that toy guns are not to be sold.

The sad truth is: Megatron = gun = no sales.

(I'm hoping that someday we'll get an import version of Meggy like the 20th anniversary Optimus that just came out. 12 inches tall and a total badass)

Anybody have that videoclip that floated online a year or two ago of a "real" Bumblebee transforming?

I remember that. Should be in Otter. I'd search but I'm too lazy.

If Megatron turning into a tiny pistol is a stretch, they could always go the Galvatron route and just let him transform into a large cannon. It would be hard pressed for me to imagine Megatron turning into something else.

Yeah, but Wheeljack's more of an engineer - he creates the Dinobots, etc.

I don't remember Octane, but if we're going to put a triple-changer, shouldn't it be Astro-Train?
Octane turns into both an airliner and a fuel truck.

I think having Thrust and Ramjet would be pushing it. That'll be 2 more planes they'd have to render with different designs whereas Star Scream, Sky Warp and Thundercracker pretty much has the same design, only with different colors. They(Ramjet and Thrust) weren't Generation 1 anyway right?
I think they could be different planes.

As for Megatron, I think it *would* be a little tacky to make him a gun.
It wuld be, but he's not exactly a tactful fellow, more of an 'attackful' fellow.

I suppose you could make him into a Tank. An EVIL Tank though. He needs that big ol' gun on his arm; it's part of his character.

Another vote for Astro-Train.

Fine, have your Astrotrain... I just think it's silly to not have your robots be able to fly back to Cybertron, even though one of them can turn into a Space Shuttle...

I'm pretty sure Bumblebee as a VW is a no-go. Apparently, VW was contacted about making a Binaltech/Alternators version of Bumblebee/Beetle, but VW said no, as they do not want to be associated with any violent/war type toys.

We'll see how married to that idea they are when the prospect of the movie's advertising perks excite them...

... push comes to shove, you could always make Bumblebee a mini cooper.

So this will be a lame PG movie, right?

I don't think a PG movie has to be lame at all. Robots bashing each other to bits, as I've already said, isn't easily imitated by impressionable kids. No blood or gore, just pulverising steel.

Found a couple of links:

http://www.bigbadtoystore.com/toystan.asp?Queryid=pr060
http://www.ncsx.com/2004/ncs071904/ncs0719f.htm
(you can pre-order a Mini-Cooper transformer. This info comes from Takara, the Japanese toy maker)

but then there's this:
http://www.seibertron.com/news/view.php?id=3166
NEWS: A few tidbits of Alternator-related information were given out by Hasbro's panel at the San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend. These included:

Alternator Grimlock WILL be silver.

There has been NO attempt at getting the Mini Cooper license for an Alternator, but that is not to say it couldn't happen.

They haven't given up on getting the license to Volkswagon.

They have several clay mock ups for Alternators that to which they haven't gotten the license yet.

So it looks like Hasbro doesn't have the rights. But Takara does??

We're getting into toy discussion now. Let's get back to the movie and what we'd like to see in that.

Yeah he probably consumes too many energon cubes. Also, I remember something in Transformers the movie to the effect that Astrotrain could only carry a certain amount of weight?

Holy crap! I'd never even heard of these, but now I must own them.

Edit: Thanks a lot, jerk, I just paid $53 shipped for an Alternator Optimus Prime.

Rogers Writing Transformers
Source: Variety November 3, 2004

Catwoman screenwriter John Rogers is writing Transformers, the DreamWorks/Paramount live-action tentpole based on the popular Hasbro toys, reports Variety.

Steven Spielberg is executive producing the film that is slated for a Summer 2006 release and will likely be a franchise property. Tom DeSanto, who executive produced the two "X-Men" films, wrote the story that Rogers will adapt.

Rogers is also working on Rush Hour 3 for director Brett Ratner at New Line, due out next year. At DreamWorks, he's producing Fatal Frame, based on the Japanese video game.

So put aside your feelings about the Star Wars prequels for a moment (good or bad) and just think about the amount of violence contained in both of those films. Lots of robot violence (plus a couple of fairly violent human deaths) and those were both PG. So I think we could see a PG Transformers movie that would contain lots of violence. What would you have in an R rated Transformers movie anyway? "Fuck you, Megatron!" right before Optimus Prime blows his head off and oil spurts everywhere?
