We sell those at the store. I didn't think they were so bad.

John Rogers on Transformers
Source: Newsarama September 22, 2006

John Rogers, who wrote the first draft of the Transformers script, talked to Newsarama about the movie. Here's a clip from the article:

Yep, I wrote the first draft. I've seen the shooting script, and it's about half and half. They've moved one of the storylines a little earlier, and they've increased the big military aspect, whereas I had focused on some of the smaller, personal stories. Yeah, you know, I get a credit, we'll see. We'll see what it looks like eventually. It goes from me, to the other guys, who work quite extensively with Michael Bay, so using what he needs to get his vision across. The characters are the same, the rough plot's the same, and I've seen the mock-ups of the battles and it's gonna be frickin' huge. It'll be a lot of fun to see.

I hope they tweaked Rogers script a little more. I read some notes from another guy that has a copy of the script and he says:

Spoiler:
That Megatron and Prime are Brothers that had a "falling out" of sorts. The Transformers all start as Liquid Metal and take on their forms through a scanning system. Also, there are supposed to be a lot of cute little kids and stuff. WTF?

Spoiler:
Well the scanning process is from the original animated series so I'm cool with that. The liquid metal bit is neither good or bad, really. As for Prime and Megs being brothers, that seems to be borrowed from one of the newer shows that had Ultra Magnus and Prime as brothers who had a falling out (but would sometimes have to set their differences aside and unite to transform into some bigger robot).

So it seems that the Rogers script borrowed bits and pieces from each show. I wonder if we'll get a spark reference as well.

Agreed. It undoubtedly took patience to develop, but it's obvious he has too much time on his hands.

Really, I find it less sad than some jackass sitting in front a TV, swilling beer, and living vicariously through football or NASCAR.

Point well said. I kind of agree to be honest. I guess deep down I'm jealous that I didn't make something like that first! I will say that there are probably a lot of people who think he is a loser for doing that though. Like I said, it was an accomplishment. I also find it less sad than someone who sits in a cubicle all day and then tries to live life vicariously through other means, or being a weekend warrior.

Back to the topic, some rather devout Bay fan over at IMDB had this to post about the movie. IMDB is quite a bit different from this place in that name calling and personal insults seem to be tolerated, and most of the time someone will state their opinion as fact and then refuse to address any questions afterwards and just be smug with their opinion.

Anyway, here it is:

Okay, just to clarify witth you guys-

COMPARING IT TO BATMAN & ROBIN-
You can't compare it to that because of the look of the characters or a leaked script that isn't the real one at all. Did people think Batman & Robin suck because of the casting, looks, or set deisgn? No, they all(including you) supported it from day one, what made it suck was because of the dialogue, acting, and the story. So your immediatley going to say that just because Optimus is going to have flames and Megatron alien form looks like the aliens from the alien franchise or Bumble Bee being a VW instead of a beetle your all immediatly going to say it's the new crap? Sounds too critical but I guess you say it alot harder because Michael Bay is directing. Have any of you considered that Hasbro or the producers have any credit at all with the designs? You should actually be thanking them for chnaging teh designs because the blocky look would be ugly as hell on screen, so thank them for tyring to give Transformers a modern look that fits the MTV generation, because that's the ONLY WAY TO GET AN AUDIENCE AND AVOID BEING LIKE BATMAN & ROBIN So quick saying taht it's the new Batman & Robin because of looks, you should instead wiat till the first REAL trialer comes out in Nov. or Dec. If we are going to compare it Batman wise it should be Burton's Batman, because back then people HATED the casting, they HATED the casting of Keaton, Nicholson, and Basinger. There was even a few petitions made to change it, some people also wanted Burton to be banned from film because they though his other work including Beetlejuice wasn't that good enough for him to do Batman. Some people said that Batman would flop and some said that Batman isn't popular with their generation at the time but you know what? It became one of the top summer blockbuster hits of the 80's. But there was no internet bakc then so lets move onto Batman begins, before it came out almost everybody hated it, they hated the leaked script( that was about 94% of what we got), they hated the choice of villians, they hated Bale, and they most of all HATED Chris Nolan being director. Think about all that for a sec.

COMPARING IT TO GODZILLA[98]]-
I'll admit it the designs of the TF's do look more alien than what they were like in the original toyline. But saying that it's going to be like Godzilla[98] is still a wrong factor, look at it this way-
.The Transformers AREN'T man made or were created by a nuclear warfare that was 40 or 50 years ago(Like Godzilla was in that film)
.The teaser with Mars has nothing to do with the films plot unlike the teaser for Godzilla[98](Which DID have him in New York).
.Hasbro is involved with Transformers unlike the Japanese who WEREN'T involved at all with Godzilla[98].
.They're trying to capture the size, voice, and nature of the Transformers unlike what Devlin and Emmerich did with Godzilla.
.They got a a better director for the job, that's right Bay is better than Emmerich why? Because he makes twice as much money, has a style and formula and trademark and DOESN'T rely on special effect after special effect.Plus Bay even BEAT Godzilla[98] with his thrid movie, Armageddon, which made more than a billion dollars worldwide and is apart of the billion dollar summer blockbuster club.Plus Bay has movies that MAKE sense unlike Emmerich who acts like a little kid in a toy store and has no trademark in his films.
.The writters are actually fans and not hatters like Delvin and Emmerich.
.The story of Transformers was about Good guys vs. Bad guys, the plot for Godzilla was always about a monster attacking the city and fighting a monster from space or somewhere else and it always ended up being when the people questioned if he was with them or not. See a paradox here? I do.

THE SCRIPT-
The writters have already confirmed that the scirpt that was leaked ISN'T the plot for the film. They even said that comapring their new draft to their old one is pretty off, alot, I repeat, ALOT has changed since that draft was made, plus when that draft was made Bay wasn't even confirmed as director yet, he was rummord then.

THE MILLITARY FIGHTING THE DECEPTICONS-
Consider this-A giagantic alien robot from outer space came here on Earth, what would the Gov. do about it? Simple, try to stop it no matter what it takes. It does sound a little like the Hulk but hey they wnat to keep this a little grounded in reality, which is saving it from being the next Batman & Robin.

WHY BAY WAS CH0OSEN FOR DIRECTOR-
Most of you ask why? Why would Speilberg choose somebody like Bay? Here's why-Speilberg likes his directing style and his action scenes, he even tried to add some of Bay's flash cuts in his latest action blockbusters. Plus Bay is the youngest diretcor ever to score big with a billion dollar movie(He did it with Armageddon)and he sitll to this day is the youngest to do that well. And Bay can blow away some competition in the past; take Godzilla, it was hyped up for a large number of years and Bay's aramgeddon came out of nowhere and you know what? It made a billion dollars and blew the competition for the summer of 98. And Pearl harboR(Love it or hate it, I guess you hate it) became one of the most top selling DVD's of all time and made a million dollars and more at the box office. Both Bad Boys I and II did well for a large number of weeks when released, but as for The Island, it flopped because of poor advertisement but it did amazingly well overseas and became a large hit that summer in Japan.
That's another reason why Speilberg wants him, he knows he can make a *beep* of money off of his films. Some of you may call Speilberg old or getting crazy or just loosing it. Your all wrong, he's sitll a revelant filmmaker. And it's not just him that likes Bay there's-
George Lucas
James Cameron
Ridley Scott
Tony Scott
That's right they ALL think Bay's good, maybe not at the quality of his films but the action and the vissuals Bay has, and Bay ahs a great style, he shoots his movies exactly like a music video and creates a cool/sexy world. The Scott bors. were inspried by him and use some element sof his style in their recent films. James Cameron says that Bay has the best vissual styls hollywood has ever seen in a long damn time(a word from a master). George Lucas even did a Bay like scene in one of his Star Wars prequels(The race scene in Episode I) and he's a dear friend of Bay.But hey, if you don't like msuic video-like films then lets name a list of directors who have music video vissuals in their works, like what the Bride did in Kill Bill-
David Fincher
Baz Lhurman
Tony Scott
Domonic Sena
Antoine Fuqua
Michael Bay
Point is, you people have all forgotten that story is not what makes a good director, it's the style he or she directs it. Alfred Hitchcock siad this once-
"A good director is not because of a story it is how they make films in their style. You can enjoy the film by even turning on mute and you can still enjoy the picture by the director's style of filmmaking." But I guess you all disagree and would go for your beloved Peter Jackson or James Cameron(Who's busey as hell now) when I have a question are they even TF's fans? Or have they ever showed signs of liking it? Bay has even said it himslef to Nelson(Co-creator of the Michael Bay website and board) that Bay has a comment about the hate-
"Try me, just try me. wait till 7-4-7 and you'll see if I'm a *Beep* Transformers fan or not"
That was strong and he meant it so don't give up any ide athat he might be a fan himself.BTW here's a list of posts made by Bay from his own website-
http://www/shootfortheedit.com/forum...hor=michaelbay
Read all these PLEASE. Now, THINK about all that for a few.

BEING A TRILOGY-
If it's promoted like crazy and has as much hype as Kong, War of the Worlds,Superman Returns and *Giggles* Snakes on a Plane it has a good chance of being a sucess if it doesn't there's always DVD sales(Which is getting Hellboy a sequel, even AVP).
TF's could maybe become the next Pirates of the carribean(By fanbase) and become a cult classic.

Over and Out. So please...GET WITH THE *BEEP* PROGRAM!

They're coming to Detroit to film!!

Saw this on my local news just now.

They're scouting for extras and locations now for the final chase/battle of the movie. The old train depot is one spot of interest.

I think they said they plan to do some shooting this coming Tuesday and Wednesday.

"Try me, just try me. wait till 7-4-7 and you'll see if I'm a *Beep* Transformers fan or not" -Allegedly from Michael Bay

Okay, here is why I doubt Michael Bay is a Transformers fan. According to IMDB, he was born in 1965, which means he was roughly 19 to 20 when Transformers was at its Zenith in the 80s. I don't see him as the kind of guy who sat around watching the cartoons at that age, or buying the toys, or doing anything that all of us enjoyed about them at the time. I could see him as the cocky teenage guy who looked at kids playing with Transformers and thinking the whole thing was dumb, or getting his jollies from taking a Transformer away from the younger brother of a hot girl he was dating and then screwing around with it and after not getting it to change properly, leaving it in a screwed up state (possible source for the designs?).
In short, there is no way this guy is a fan and obviously has no idea what they are or ever were about.

Well, there's certainly no precedent for people outside of a target age group to become fans of fictional characters or storylines.

In other news, adults around the world are worried to hear that someone might be replacing Emma Watson as Hermione Granger from the slightly popular Harry Potter series.
