NEW LIVE ACTION TRANSFORMERS!!! Sweet

Yeah, Chris Latta is sadly dead. So is Clive Reville (Cyclonus among others and the Emperor in The Empire Strikes Back).
But Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and even the voice of the titular monster in Predator) and Frank Welker (Megratron, Soundwave, and a whole boatload of Transformers and the voice of many many characters in many different cartoons and live action features) are still around.
But I have a worry. Don Murphy said he wanted the original cartoon voices. But the original cartoon voices according to whom? Afterall, in the craptacular Armada and Energon series, Megatron and Optimus Prime are voiced by David Kaye and Gary Chalk (from Beast Wars and Beast Machines). I know I'd prefer the original 80's voices but if they intent to catter mostly to the younger fans, I'm assuming they'd pick the voices of the current show.

In G.I. Joe he was also Breaker, Frostbite, Gung-Ho, Horror Show, Ripper, Steeler, and Patrick O'Hara.
As for The Transformers he was Defensor, Reflector, Skullcruncher, Wheeljack, Krunk, Sparkplug Witwicky, among others in addition to Starscream.

That's a very well-made commercial. Low-quality video aside, it looked flawless.
I still want to see MY ideas on screen.
Bring on the best car chase ever, with cars transforming into robots, and vice versa!

If it's live action I'm guessing they will focus on humans more than the robots themselves simply due to the cost. I would prefer all animated or CGI.

This looks pretty good as well! The copy machine fights back, robot style.

If the live action movie comes to pass, I think Luc Besson should direct. I am watching "Leon" right now and the character Mathilda watches a lot of that cartoon, so I guess Besson must like the show.

There's a VW Beetle one that's been floating around for a while too.

Those are some pretty good looking images there. Makes me not so worried about a movie.

That's one mystery never solved from the cartoon.

And to put an end to a controversy that I never understood, I am pleased to tell you that John HAS come up with a plausible explanation that will allow some of the bots to mass/size shift.

Somewhat ironically, this movie may actually be released in 2005. What's ironic about 2005? Well, the 1986 animated Transformers movie, which took the characters into the future, was set in 2005. This movie, however, will not follow that storyline
, but will start the mythology of the "Generation 1" characters over from scratch for the big screen.

Steven Spielberg told SCI FI Wire that he's intent on producing a Transformers film: "It's happening," he said in an interview, adding, "We'll announce the director in three weeks."

but what about soundwave? he definitely turned into a tape player sized for humans as he was put in someone's shirt pocket at least once in the old cartoon

New Writers Board Transformers
Source: IGN Filmforce February 18, 2005
Transformers screenwriter John Rogers has revealed on his Kung Fu Blog that, after having turned in a revised first draft, he has moved onto another project. He may come back at a later time for more work on the script.
"Nothing horrible, everything's cool. But I was technically contracted to start another movie when the 'Transformers' gig popped up. The producers of that flick -- including one-of-us Akiva Goldsman -- were real gentlemen about the situation and stepped aside for the duration of the high-intensity TF first draft," says Rogers.
He adds that "The next 'Transformers' production pass, adressing specific producer notes, will be executed by another writer or set of writers. I'll be off doing this new project, will lock in the shooting draft for 'Fatal Frame' (I meet with the director tomorrow) then will probably swing back in later on for a polish --I'm still under contract for TF."
IGN Filmforce has learned that the new writers on Transformers are Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, who have worked on Alias and Xena: Warrior Princess. They also wrote upcoming features The Island, The Legend of Zorro, and Mission: Impossible 3.
Transformers is being eyed for a summer 2006 release.

Yes I love that, a friend of mine emailed it to me along with another mpg with a transforming car that dances. It is at http://www.citroen.co.uk the C4. (It's Devilshalo's commercial I just now noticed that link, it pays sometimes to read the entire thread before posting a reply, but then you forget some of the comments you were going to make about earlier posts.)
I just remembered when I worked in a toy store in the late 80s one weekend the store had some sort of special celebration and brought in some actors in costumes and got a couple of managers to put on some costumes and one of the costumes was a Transformer. There was also a spiderman costume, a really cheap big bird, and one or tow other costumes, but the Transformer one was by far the best. I forget the character name but it was one that transformed into a jet, I seem to remember the costume had wings in the back.

Well, while they are pretty much action genre writers, I am glad they have pros from the genre writing the script. Sometimes eps. of Alias remind of the old G.I. Joe and Transformers series with their stories.
