Hmm, I am willing to bet THE FARM that you have me mixed up with someone else. Cuz I DAMN sure never said I didn't like T1 or T2. They're among two of my favorite films ever.

Oh... um... well, I... just can't accept your generous offer, then...

Something else I was thinking about: this would be a GREAT movie from an advertising standpoint. Imagine the car companies that would want a piece of this! Lotus would pay handsomely to make Sideswipe an Elise... Jazz could be a pimped-out Honda...

While we're at it, do some things need updating? Why not update a few things? The F-15 Eagle isn't the end-all, be-all of fighter jets anymore. Would our new Decepticons be F-22s and F-117s? Should Bumblebee remain a classic bug (I think so!)? Would Ironhide's personality be more suited to a beat-up 1980's Toyota? And from the looks of today's boomboxes, Soundwave's going to look like a futuristic alien machine anyway...

Also, this movie will have to explain where the robots kept their guns, and where Optimus' trailer always went.

Well.... They've kinda already done this. Sideswipe is a a Dodge Viper though. Jazz is still TBD. The Takara versions are actually pretty cool (metal), the Hasbros are kinda weak.

Check out the Transformers:Alternators

Some posts from the producer Don Murphy on the message board of his official web site:
Zemeckis is in no way involved- Harry Knowles hasn't seen the truth (or his feet) in a very long time.

We are staying focused on the original mythology.

We are working to get permissions for REAL vehicles so that Bumblebee turns into a VW for example.

Steven is COMPLETELY behind staying true to the mythology- no supersoakers.

Hasbro has exerted a ton of pressure so that the film happens QUICKLY.

Your voice is being heard.

--------

No script, no voice actors, plot confidential, just trying to get things done on time

Megatron is NOT gonna be a gun
That was lame anyway

we are gonna try to treat this as realistically as possible

one giant robot doesn't turn into the gun for another
nor does a giant robot turn into a tape deck

We MAY have Soundwave- but we'd keep him proportional and make him a cd player or something.

Think REALITY

If Megatron is a tank, then when he transforms it is to scale.

Does anyone think we should keep the Transforming SOUND- squugeee or however you'd spell it
?

--------

Making a movie like this will involve 100's of people and 100+ million dollars.

I will have a lot to say about it.

I will not have the final say.

That's just the way the world is- deal with it. I do.

Now, because of this board, I can tell you that there is a HIGH likelihood the sound will be kept for the shifting.

Now, leaving aside the hysterical ("I will bring you down"- ha!) posters among you...
The idea I like (which is from the Budiansky Marvel series) is "Robots in Disguise". They are among us, waging a secret war, and we don't know jack.

You like Soundwave so much as a character. I respect that. Let's keep him. But NOTE WELL- even if every fan goes to see this twice, we need to be able to explain Transformers to millions of people who don't know what it is. Okay. You tell them your VW might be secretly a robot. They get that. You tell them your cassette deck might be one too- and it can become 8 feet tall- that's just too many ":buys". So we gotta figure it out. Nothing is set in stone.

Megatron- again- we'll keep the character the same- but how does a big ass guy become a pistol? Where does the rest of him come/go from? Let's all figure it out calmly (although I do not think Hasbro will be selling a pistol to kids...)

--------

Many things to answer here on the fly.

There's a shitload of rumors that you guys take as facts out there. There are NO voice actors yet. There may be soon. I will personally make sure that our director considers Frank and the gang. I think celebrity voices for a film like this is moronic.

Someone out there is telling you that there aill no be toys for this movie from Hasbro? Dream on. That's the very reason they WANT a film from Steven Spielberg.

NOTHING is decided. IN MY OPINION knowing how Hollywood works---

1- I do not see mass shifting happening.
2- I do not see a giant robot turning into a cassette player.
3- Hasbro will not have a toy that turns into a pistol.
4- I just saw the robots in SKY CAPTAIN at Comic-Con- we want ours to be the opposite of those. Personalities!

We are NOT doing anything to do with Beasts and Dinos and shit.

I think Soundwave is the burger with cheese and sauce. I think his "tapes" are badass.

Maybe you're right- maybe he never changes.

Dunno.

Keep talking- you can tell we are really listening.

The next few weeks will have us, ala X MEN, decide on 7 core members of each team. Desanto will be there to make sure we stay true.

Your input is NOW.

There wouldn't be enough time to go into those robots and the attention to them would take away from the really important characters. We don't need a ton of characters thrown at us all at once, if we do it'll be overkill.
I'll freely admit that the 175 Autobots and 200 Decpticons per episode towards the end of the run WAS a bit to keep track of (and really brought the series down, IMO), so yes - keeping the cast to about 20 transformers is a good idea.

Ok, so WHO should we keep?

Prime and Megatron of course (tho it sucks that Meggy isnt going to be a gun. Damn you restrictive US Toy laws!)

Starscream (duh - can't get rid of the whole "schemeing to overthrow megatron" subplot)

Soundwave and his cassettes (although in this modern day and age - what kid knows about cassettes? But we cant have Ravage as a CD. Hmmmm)

Bumblebee (and spike - who I know falls into the "Annoying Child" catagory, but I think is essential for the human hook for the viewers).

Jazz, Ratchet and Ironhide (pity Scatman Crothers is dead)

And personaly, I'd love to see Omega Supreme - which is why I'll still defend the idea of the Constructicons, so he has someone his size to fight.

So, who have I forgotten?

I think they should include Thundercracker and SkyWarp with Star Scream.

The Constructicons were introduced fairly early in the series and i think should be included. Looking at El-Kabong's list, there are more recognizable autobots then decepticons, and having Devastator would make for one of those overwhelming challenge type thingies for the good guys

I agree! I loved the Omega Supreme/Constructicons story. I know one movie can't have it all, but it would be great to includ this as a subplot, with Omega Supreme hell-bent on revenge.

Ugh, i hated the Insecticons. Laserbeak is a must, and probably Ravage. Thundercracker and Sky Warp were always around but really didn't do much except be cannon fodder

Some that haven't been mentioned

AUTOBOTS:

Wheeljack. The bots need their doctor.

Hot Rod. Set up stuff for the sequels!

DECEPTICONS:

Octane. We need a triple-changer in there, and he's a right bastard.

We need the Decepticon jet fighter squadron. They don't have to be all the same, as long as they're all there. Thrust, Skywarp, Thundercracker, Ramjet, and of course Starscream.

As for Megatron - of course he can be a gun. Hasbro has made a toy gun before. It was called MEGATRON.

He's supposed to be evil personified. He has to turn himself into an instrument of doom. Keem him as a pistol.

Wasn't Wheeljack the mechanic? Ratchet was the doctor right? The ambulance?

I don't remember Octane, but if we're going to put a triple-changer, shouldn't it be Astro-Train? I think having Thrust and Ramjet would be pushing it. That'll be 2 more planes they'd have to render with different designs whereas Star Scream, Sky Warp and Thundercracker pretty much has the same design, only with different colors. They(Ramjet and Thrust) weren't Generation 1 anyway right? As for Megatron, I think it *would* be a little tacky to make him a gun.
