Although, that's not exactly a bad thing. I always liked how Megatron looked as a gun and as a robot but, geez, what a useless transformation. At least Soundwave's transformation helped in terms of stealth. Who would suspect that walkman was in fact a big ol' robot? But Megatron just fit in Starscream's hand. Starscream already had weapons at his disposal and Megatron had a giant arm cannon. I don't see how his transformation was practical. The same holds true for when Megatron became Galvatron. The cannon looked cool but it hindered his mobility. And
Spoiler:
, with the exception of when he killed Starscream,
Galvatron's fire power never seemed any more impressive in robot mode than when he was in cannon mode.
Although the gun was cool, it never made sense at all. Mostly for reasons you state.

One of my co-workers was talking to the security guard for the set and said they were filming at Union Station in LA and will go back to LA for more filming during the weekend.

Thanks for the pics, alfredog1976!

Transformers: The Movie was the first film I ever saw theatrically and has remained one of my favourites to this day. That said, I don't mind if they update the origin. There's no need for them to spend millions of years in the ground and not have been discovered. A simple crash landing will be fine. Megatron can not be a gun. I completely agree with everything RocShemp said. Lame. If he's going to have a tranformation, it has to be useful. That aside, all this talk of humans is concerning. I will appreciate a real-life approach so long as the humans aren't the focus and just a way into the story like Sparkplug in G1.

The common theory was/has been "mass displacement".

Don't know much about it myself, but here's what one person wrote:
I think a lot of people just have an issue with wrapping their heads around the idea of mass displacement and subspace pockets. Some like to balk and claim it's some sort of comicbook nonsense or unscientific conspiracy, even though the theory was created and defined by facts mostly from the cartoon. It's simply not possible for all the moving parts and working components of both modes to be in the same space without mass displacement, and pretending Megatron wasn't a gun and Soundwave wasn't a cassette player just ignores that it aides in all transformation in some degree. Perhaps moreso in the later era of Beast Wars, which defeats the arguments it's just animation goofs (never mind that many times in the cartoon there were flashes of light when objects moved through subspace, which involves transparent space in the cells, matte layers, and backlighting). I think it really adds to the impressiveness of transformers; mass displacement probably has been applied to numerous fields of Cyberton tech like weapon ammunition, miniaturization, fuel storage, and other stuff that'd otherwise make their massive level of firepower and space travel impossible.

I've never liked that mass-displacement theory. Frankly, I think it's stupid.

I'm not defending it, I just thought that was an odd reaction . . . specifically without any explaination.

However, it is sci-fi . . . I'm willing to grant a little leeway when it comes to the technology that they use.

Doesn't it seem a bit nerdy to try and come up with some sort of scientific (pseudo or otherwise) explanation of how a small gun or walkman can transform into a giant evil robot? Just accept that it's a kids cartoon and go with it!

I'm ok with an updated version of "The Transformers" that will translate better on the big screen. If that means Megatron is now a tank or a jet, then that's cool. All I want is a badass movie next summer from Bruckheimer and Bay that will satisfy all the hardcore fans, pull in new ones, and dominate the world!!!

For example, for the X-Men films, they didn't cast a bulky 5'4ish actor in yellow/green tights to portray Wolverine. Obviously the route they went came thru better for the film and I think the choice was correct.

One thing I really hope for is when they transform, I hope the sounds are over exaggerated . . . "Autobots, TRANSFORM! . . . CHU, CHU, CHA, CHA, CHEEEEE!!!! Haha . . . You guys know what I mean . . . Can you imagine that in surround???

Well, you may have to keep on wishing as Bruckheimer isn't involved in the slightest, just Bay. Bruckheimer's role is being filled by Steven Spielberg, or to some extent anyway.

Really? I wasn't aware Spielberg has taken over for Bruckheimer . . . to whatever degree that involvement might be . . . anyways . . . sounds even better!

Well, he's more of just an Executive Producer, which means little involvement past getting the project greenlit and maybe offering some advice here and there. Also, Spielberg was a part of it from the get/go, Bruckheimer was never involved.

Thanks for the clarification . . . not sure why, but I was under the impression Bruckheimer was involved in the project from the start. Anyways, I hope we get a teaser trailer for this badboy soon!

It would make sense if a teaser was attached to Superman or Pirates.

Open casting call for Transformers...

If you are between the ages of 16 and 23, Michael Bay is looking for you to play high school students.
