Yep that’s horrible.
I think the Zavvi edition uses the original on the outer box, but I’m not shelling out $70 for it.

The old Poltergeist Blu-ray is pretty soft and hazy. The movie should really benefit from a new master.

I'll wait for reviews. If I was still collecting like I used to it would be a definite pre-order but I more discerning nowadays.

Poltergeist in 4K is a no-brainer for me. It's one of my top 10 horror movies of all time. However I really would like to know what special features if any are planned? I wouldn't even mind feature-length documentary that said Tobe Hooper directed this with no influence whatsoever.

Re: UHD release announcements

I have Poltergeist on Special edition DVD and the only extra from what I recall was some paranormal ghost hunters documentary. It’s a shitty extra. Nothing about the making of the movie. That’s why I never got the BD because the same extra was ported over.

Nothing new, but at least we're getting the making of featurette that hasn't been seen since the laserdisc. Besides that, just The Real World of Poltergeists documentary from the Blu-ray and the trailer

That's pathetic. It truly is a cursed movie!
Oh well, I never upgraded to BD since I was always hoping for a true special edition, and never had the LD, so I guess the two extras and a UHD image will have to do. That said, I will be bargain hunting on the price.

Re: UHD release announcements

I got the Blu-ray in a book style packaging but it has a big crease so that tempts me to buy the 4K with the horrible cover artwork.

Re: UHD release announcements

I went to the craft store earlier today and bought a bunch of colored construction paper and glue sticks. I am going to apply to WB's art department.

Do like I do and if you like the packaging of a product and a better version comes out, buy the new version and just swap the packaging.

That digibook sells for cheap. I sold my mint copy awhile back for probably less than 15 bucks.

Yeah...these artworks just seem a bit to artsy fartsy. I guess that's the market....not the casual people who remember the movie, but the person buying it for the 8th time.

Here’s the back side artwork for Poltergeist and it’s weak bonus material.

The Last Detail? I love The Last Detail but I can't say this would be anywhere near the top of my 4k upgrade list if I were running a boutique label.

Re: UHD release announcements

I am going to buy Poltergeist in 4K, but holy heck the cover art really is as bad as everyone is making it out to be. At the end of the day what counts is we finally get a beloved horror film in UHD, but it is indeed a bit sad how little effort is put into the artwork used to market films nowadays.

Re: UHD release announcements

These are the times where I wish Vinegar Syndrome would get Poltergeist and give us three covers, a slipcover, clasp box, an 80 page book and some new special features for a sweet price of only 49.99. Alas, we get 3 day old soup with recycled special features and the only hope being an improved 4k transfer.
