I'm not sure what happened to Star Trek II...it was supposed to get a UHD release this year, but I've heard nothing yet on it.

Cronenberg's Crash?
If there is a single Cronenberg movie I refuse to see again, it's this one.
It is one of the most embarrassing misfires by a well known filmmaker in history.
I'm sure it's the stuff of nightmares for many directors...

Yes, because people want to see James Spader have sexual intercourse with an open gash in Rosanna Arquette's leg in 4K!!

German label Turbine Media Group has announced that they're releasing The Princess Bride on UHD BD (and in Dolby Vision!). MGM's hard work isn't going to waste. Hopefully Silence of the Lambs isn't too far behind.

It will likely come out over here at some point if you feel like waiting. The criterion disc looks incredible.

Not for Martin Scorsese. He ranked it the 8th best film of the 90's.

Basically you have a different set of gatekeepers selecting releases outside the US. Most current home video executives working in the United States for the large studios are MBA types. Their current position is just another stepping stone up the corporate studio ladder and they may not even be movie fans. So you get marketing-themed releases and choices almost entirely dictated by sale numbers/demographics.

Movie labels outside the United States tend to be much smaller operations without the same corporate pressures seen in Hollywood. German home video labels are closer in scope to Shout Factory than Universal or Warner. So that is why you'll often see more idiosyncratic selections released in foreign markets.

I enjoy MS more as a filmmaker than a critic.

I'll wait for some reviews from professional calibrators before buying...

Saw an ad on FB for this a couple of days ago. It said the release date is 9/10.

As much as I love this movie and is one of my all time favs, I never hoped on the blu disc. I only own the 2 disc DVD version. Owning it in 4K hopefully will be a nice upgrade compared to the blu version.

I tried to watch this recently.
It just doesn't seem to have aged well...

I guess for me that is easily overlooked because I greatly enjoy the movie. It's got too many iconic scenes. It's a classic.

It is timeless and a part of the excess of the 80's

Edgar Wright's Cornetto Trilogy is available for pre-order at $44.99. Expect a price drop between now and then, I think.

BTW, I noticed today there is also a non-steelbook version being released on 9/10 too.
