Re: UHD release announcements
Maybe it was covered before but when is Taxi Driver coming out on 4K?
I don't think this counts as actual 4K content.

Re: UHD release announcements
Why does that Blu-ray say "Optimized for 4K" when the disc is 1080p?
Adam Tyner the link makes no mention of 4K release. Perhaps Sony pulled out of it?

Re: UHD release announcements
Sony claims that the disc is masted in a way to optimize the upscaling on their UHD TVs.

So it's mostly marketing BS, but if you have a Sony UHD TV with the right upscaling engine, it may look better than some other upscaled release.
The reference to the UHD Blu-ray was removed, but it could've been for marketing reasons.

These Blu-ray Disc movies include the following technologies to yield the greatest possible high definition picture quality, and will upscale to create a satisfying 4K experience:
- Utilization of 4K movie masters created either from a film source scanned digitally with more than 4K resolution, or shot with 4K digital cameras that provides a more precise and detailed picture.
- The utilization of x.v.YCC color gamut to the 4K movie master delivers an expanded range of rich color contained in the original source when viewed on a high definition television compatible with x.v.YCC specification.
- We worked together with Sony Pictures to optimize the algorithms of down-converting 4K movie masters to upscale it with the 4K-Reality Pro Engine, when viewed on a 4K LED TV.

Just put out a real 4k version. Stop with the maximizing stuff. It is still on a BD.

It looks like Sony hasn't used the "Mastered in 4K" branding since 2014. In 2015 they introduced the "Supreme Cinema" series, which they used on some titles through 2016, and contained transfers mastered in 4K, so it seems like it was replacement branding for their "premium" Blu-rays.

Sony also had a few Blu-rays that used a 4K master without any overt branding on them,

Re: UHD release announcements
Yep, Sony only released a few under that "Mastered in 4K" banner, and well before the 4K UHD discs became available to the public. I picked up a couple of those old blu's, but I didn't see any overt difference between those and the older blu's, even with using my upscaling player.

Re: UHD release announcements
First amazon murdered the Gremlins UHD order page and now they have struck another blow against Scarface.
I know both will be up before release date but they really need to get their shit together over there. There are so many newer release movies and TVs shows that are out of stock. It is even worse for music.

Re: UHD release announcements
I will be buying American Gangster

To buy or not to buy is the question.
I really like that statue but if it's cheap plastic then the $70 for it is not worth it. This set is $100 - $29 (movies) = $70 for statue.

Re: UHD release announcements
If the Craig set is individual cases I will get it, If it is all four in a jumbo case I will pass and wait for the five film set after Bond 25 comes out.
But then again if Bond 25 is awful then I will get the above set since SPECTRE is a really good way to end this series of films if it comes down to it.

I'm waiting for a full Bond set. The Craig set won't even be "Complete," so why buy it?

Re: UHD release announcements
Well the Craig set isn't being marketed as a complete set, but I get your point. I'll more than likely do the same and just wait for the next "full" Bond release. 4K or no sale for me.
Guess it's time to offload the old sets.

Re: UHD release announcements
Finally! I thought it was weird that they released the second and not the first when the new movie came out, I didn't realize that they were released by different companies.
I did a quick comparison and it looks like this will have everything from the Blu-ray, and it will have a bunch more stuff from the DVD but probably not quite everything (depends on what 'and more' means). The most prominent feature still missing is the DVD comics.

I might wait it out for awhile if that's the case.
