I don't think he claimed it was exclusive news.

The more interesting news is about Samsung. I guess there weren't a lot of new 4K players at CES this year (Sony, Panasonic, and that's about it) - so the question is if the companies are getting out of the 4K player business altogether (we've already lost Samsung and Oppo...and rumor is LG isn't far behind) and what that will mean for Ultra 4K releases in general. I don't think they're going anywhere for a while (so don't panic!) but if players aren't being produced any more, it's going to become even more of a niche market than it is now.

No he doesn't...you may not like him, but he's a well-established writer. Have all his "scoops" panned out? No, but don't kill the messenger - his sources have sometimes provided poor info and/or studios have changed their gameplan.

Shannon you are a good dude and I like you, but come on with this Bill Hunt apology garbage. He's no longer relevant, doesn't get scoops anymore, and makes up a ton of his content or words it so vaguely that no matter what happens it's bound to be true someday.

My opinion about Hunt is hardly unique.

I have read Hunt since the DVD Days.
I politely disagree with your assessment of him.

Re: UHD release announcements

Yup, I already pre-ordered it from Amazon when it was on sale for $17 a few months ago. Glad they're including the 2 1/2 hour making of documentary as well. Seems like the extras are all a direct import from the deluxe special edition.

Looks like a 4-pack of Daniel Craig’s Bond flicks is on the way for this summer.

Both CR and QOS will come from 2K DI masters if that matters.

Sony may have rebuilt Casino Royale in 4K. (They've apparently done this for a few titles with 2K DIs.) A 4K DCP is supposedly making the rounds. QoS, as far as I know, is still 2K only, at least for the time being.

Where is it streaming in 4K? I'd love to see it.

Re: UHD release announcements

iTunes. Not sure if it's anywhere else right now. And the word from blu-ray.com's forums is that it's the international cut:

The 4K version of Casino Royale currently streaming is definitely the uncut international version. I just spent a little while comparing it to the Movie-Censorship report and yep, it's uncut. Complete with all the kicks, punches, door knocks, and bodies hitting the ground.

There's a longer cut of this we didn't get in the US? I'm so forking tired of this bullshirt.

Trimmed for a PG-13, yes. Josh Zyber's review details some of the differences, which sound extremely minor overall.

...and Amazon.co.uk is being forkwits and not shipping that disc to the US for no reason. Forking dashboards.

Re: UHD release announcements

The UK version is cut too, just in different ways. (Restores some of the fights; trims some of the torture.)

The Australian release is the most comprehensive.

Looks like Lionsgate is releasing Crank on May 21st. Early Best Buy listing, anyway.

Really? Who picks this shirt? I'd much rather see Redford's The Last Castle get a forking HD release.

Nice to see Crank is coming, but I'm still peeved at Lionsgate for forking us out of the extended cut of Punisher (2004) in HD.

It's definitely out of left field (no pun intended), but The Natural is a gorgeous film and should look spectacular in 4K. (And they're going nuts with this release, with a ton of different soundtracks -- including an Atmos mix -- and two cuts.) I didn't know there was so much crossover between home theater geeks and baseball, since Field of Dreams is on the way this Spring as well.

Sony's catalog slate has been all over the place, which I like, in theory. I just wish there were more of it.

Look I like The Last Castle alot but to say The Natural is "shit" compared to it or FUCKING CRANK its pure lunacy (and I like Crank too, I own it).

The Natural is an amazing, gorgeously filmed movie that is a Day One purchase for me. Hopefully they get around to releasing Crank 2 on UHD for you soon enough though.

Crank 2 wasn't nearly as good as the first. Too far fetched.

Re: UHD release announcements

The Natural was a great movie. Amazing climatic sequence.

I have the old special edition DVD and would be more than open to this new edition.

.
Both cuts of the movie means I can finally retire my DVD. You're right about it being a gorgeous film; Caleb Deschanel was definitely nominated for an Oscar for a reason. Conversely, I don't know if Field of Dreams really needs the upgrade.
