Depending on PQ/Atmos review, I may pick it up when they're cheap.

That's cool they're releasing them, but WTF is with the release order? Who would by the last 4 first?

Damn, time to cash in my Wizard's set and sell it for about $1k. That should cover the cost of any UHD special editon they release.

Probably has to do with the production workflows. Easier to push the more modern films through a 4K delivery pipeline, but maybe some more work that needs to be done to facilitate the older movies.

Re: UHD release announcements

looks like Di$ney might have to jump onto the UHD wagon if they don't want folk parallel importing

from thedigitalbits:

So, here’s something very interesting. File this in the Rumor Mill category, but Disney may finally be about to take the leap into 4K Ultra HD.

According to the German BD site Bluray-Disc.de, Disney and Marvel have licensed Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Iron Man 3 to Concorde Home Entertainment for release in Germany on the 4K Ultra HD format on 4/6, both individually and as a Steelbook trilogy. You can see more here and also here.

If this is true, it would seem likely that a U.S. release is also soon to be announced. After all, the 4K Ultra HD format is all-region. It’s very hard to imagine Marvel and Disney sacrificing potential sales here in the States due to enthusiasts importing copies.

street date for the German editions is April 4th:

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...y-blu-ray-disc

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...y-blu-ray-disc

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...y-blu-ray-disc

Iron Man Trilogy (Limited Steelbook Edition)

http://www.bluray-disc.de/blu-ray-fi...y-blu-ray-disc

technically, although the audio specs may or might not change 'Iron Man 3' should have it's Dolby Atmos mix included.

Re: UHD release announcements

So did Disney take the first Iron Man movie when they bought Marvel? Since it was released by Paramount. I sure hope Disney does a press release soon on a Marvel UHD line. And that 5.1 DTS-HD worries me. They need to release these with Atmos at the very least.

I doubt these audio specs are finalized, and since the international/regional distribution rights is Concorde, guess they felt the time was right - either way, this might be the straw that broke the camel's back in terms of Disney jumping into the UHD game.

Wow, the steelbook trilogy is only $65 (shipping included) to the US. That's really good. Far better than whatever I spent on the blu-rays. Actually, I probably could sell off my editions and get at least half back. I'll have to think about this seriously.

Even though I read that earlier today, I still don't get the reason to waste the effort on Snitch. But then again, I have trouble with about 1/4 of the releases (Why Him? Why release this in 4k?). I know it's the Rock and it's probably the only Lionsgate title with the Rock available for 4k, but it seems like a waste especially at current 4k pricing. Hell or High f'ing Water if nothing else in 4k should be a priority for Lionsgate.

Eh, DTS:X is always welcome, but just how much of an improvement will there be on the PQ? I'm glad I held off buying the new blu.

I've always found the lighting on the island way too bright (on the bluray) - maybe it could be dialed down.

Re: UHD release announcements

James Gunn is pushing for Disney to start releasing their Marvel movies in 4K UHD.

Here's the blurb from Bill Hunt's website:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/column...ts/042817-1230

Finally, this is very interesting: Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn is officially pushing hard for Disney to start releasing Marvel films on the 4K Ultra HD format, starting with his own Guardians of the Galaxy: Volume 2 later this year. This comes from a London red carpet premiere interview with the director by BBC News entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba. Gunn confirms that the film was finished to a 4K Digital Intermediate, with parts of it in native 4K and parts upconverted 2K, and that a Dolby Vision HDR pass has been completed as well. You can see the exchange on video here and by clicking on the image below. You go, James! We’re behind you 100%. Tip of the hat to Lizo too, for asking a damn fine question. #Respect

Re: UHD release announcements

I think it will just be a matter of time until Disney finally takes the leap. I'm hoping for the new Star Wars films will get the 4K UHD treatment (I can wait for the original trilogy since I'd prefer non-Special Editions) later this year.

Fifth Element, this will be a quintuple dip. (DVD, Superbit DVD, regular Blu-ray, remaster 4k Blu-ray). I have a steelbook+4k remaster combination right now and will play a wait and see game before I decide what to do. Absolutely adore the movie though.

Leon will be a triple dip. (Superbit DVD, regular Blu-ray)...I'm wait for about $15 and then pounce on it, no questions asked. In the meantime I might go find a steelbook though to pretty it up a bit.

I might bite on Fifth Element, I've never owned it before it should look stunning in 4K
