I wonder if the guys who put together the Avengers Phase One set are the same team of guys who created that Pixar gift set that Disney got taken to court over

The "Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Collection" has officially been delayed until Spring 2013.

Here's the official announcement from Disney: "We are sorry to inform you that there will be a delay in the availability of the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Collection. Originally, the Collection was to be available on September 25, 2012, but unfortunately we are now unable to make that date. We are currently working with Marvel to identify the exact date when the Collection will be available, but we expect it to be during Spring, 2013. The Collection will come in a new briefcase and include even more than the content and features that were first advertised. We know that you are disappointed in this delay, and we are working hard to get your Collection to you as soon as possible. We will have an updated announcement for you in the coming weeks which will include actual timing and final details about the Collection. Once again, we apologize for the delay and hope that when you do receive the Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One – Avengers Assembled Collection, you will enjoy it as much as Marvel enjoyed creating it."

If you reserved this set with us, you can keep your reservation store credit applied to this set, use the credit on any other store purchases, or apply it towards any upcoming movie reservations.

We sincerely apologize to all of our customers that participated in our trade-in offer towards this set, please understand that this was a late decision made by Disney/Marvel and is completely out of our hands.

Huh? I never heard of that. Why'd they get taken to court?

I don't doubt for a second the set has been pulled, but some official information would be nice, given the set is due in less than 3 weeks. All we've gotten so far is second-hand info.

IIRC, the lamp in the boxset was a direct ripoff of a patented lamp design that another company sold... which coincidentally was the lamp that inspired the Pixar lamp in the first place.

Same kinda situation.

Well...they better fucking add the IM features now.

Also...I'm kind of glad that my wallet will breath a bit better now cuz w/ those UK Hitchcock and Universal Monster sets coming out in October...this set was the one that, aside from my irritation w/ the lack of those IM features, I was really fucking thinking about canceling cuz ain't no damn way I'm losing my deal on those UK sets.

So wait...since the item no longer exists..neither does our pre order pricing eh? Well In a hopeful world I'd like that Amazon would give us preordered fools a discount at least..a small one to take off the edge.

I think the pre-order price will stick, unless they get rid of the listing altogether. That doesn't seem like the route they're going with so far.

I think that's bad marketing on the briefcase company. They should've demanded an ad with each set sold so people could buy "the real thing". If anything, it's going to turn people off towards the company and they're losing out on some free publicity.

Only among morons, who I doubt would be buying many briefcases anyway. Marvel/Disney were fools to think they could steal a company's design and profit off of it.

Fuuuuuuck. Sold off my Hulk, Thor and Captain America blu-rays when this was announced.... I was hoping to have a Marvel Marathon at the end of the month, guess that won't be happening for me until next year. Not sure I can wait for Avengers though, guess I'll be picking up the metalpak afterall.

Same here. I am just going to keep my pre-order open and see what happens. I can wait 6 months or more for The Avengers. No big deal.

Wow, one of the few lawsuits like this that actually makes some logical sense. Seems like a ridiculous oversight on behalf of whoever designed the set.

I for one had no idea briefcases that looked like this were specific to one particular manufacturer.

From Marvel's Facebook page:

Marvel

The limited edition Marvel Cinematic Universe: Phase One - Avengers Assembled Collection has been delayed and is scheduled to ship in Spring 2013. The Collection will come in a new briefcase and include even more than the content and features that we had first advertised.

I think most of the Season One graphic novels have been about 128 pages if not more.

I agree, there should have been some way they could have come to terms on this so the release could have gone as scheduled, but the company must have thought they ad Disney over a barrel and gotten greedy.

The "real thing" is $750, by the way.

Re: The Avengers - Sept. 25, 2012

Skimmed the thread but did not see anything posted about this...

There was a posting over at hidefninja last week about a couple of scenes being censored(parts digitally removed). This was in regard to the German release that comes out this week. Hopefully it does not happen here.

Here is the link to scenes in question. But be advised it does contain a major spoiler(and pics of said spoiler) for those that have NOT seen this movie....
